    • He's getting the job done but he looks damn awkward while doing it. He reminds me of rec hockey when a team's goalie gets hurt and one of the other skaters has to put on the gear and play goal for the first time. They're not trying to be pretty, instead a lot of spinning and flopping as they just try to get their body in front of the shot. He defiantly has potential though once he can overcome the nerves and not have to stop so many pucks right at the goal line and is able to control the rebounds better.

  • Mike Smith is playing the fastest team in the league by far. He is doing all he can do. As an Avs fan everyone who was watching knows Nichushkin should've had a hatty but Smith seized those opportunities with some mind blowing saves. That Compher goal really sealed the deal. It was a heartbreaker for Oilers fans when in all reality they had the momentum swinging there way and they should of just scored when Bouchard just hit the post. Kadri being out is a big loss for Colorado but guys like Compher are stepping up and it's showing.

  • I’m an Av’s fan and don’t have much hate for the Oilers for the exception of Kane. Smith has actually been decent. He’s made some huge saves but it does seem like he’s letting in some of the softer goals so I understand the frustration. And McDavid is awesome, there’s no two ways about it. The Av’s defense is just doing a great job of shutting him down. Hoping Kane gets suspended so we can try to close out the series without another unnecessary injury.

  • Wow! No goal but 4:22! A hard behind the back pass right on the tape! Nichushkin around the net, around the boards moving towards the blue line, fires a hard pinpoint pass while facing the other way through Makar's legs onto the tape of a streaking Landeskog! No goal, but that pass came from loaded talent. Watch that in slow mo! Another level baby! I wish there were awesome passes highlights like this one that didn't result in goals, mixed in with goals too. That was one of the coolest, sneakiest, hard precision passes one will see. 7:23 looks like a good pass from the boards to center ice and RUH ROH, Mikko's stick says no, I'll take that and just pop that on in. :)

People that don't even watch him regularly are the ones critical of him right now because they only saw what's most recent. Sorry folks that is one of the most dangerous plays in hockey .He definite;y needs to be suspended for remainder of playoffs and 6-10 games to start the season, cadre is no angel but regardless of his reputation that hit so close to the boards is beyond reckless...

  • Once again, Smith's erratic play was the difference. He made some spectacular, highlight reel saves, but didn't make the simple ones. The deflected goal would have never gone in had he just held the post. And Compher's goal coming out of the penalty box should have never gone in. Even on the second goal, he was swimming in the crease, instead of being square to the shooter. He might have some good games, but far too often, the Oilers either win, in spite of him, or they lose because of him. And this is what happens when the GM chooses not to kick the tires and find a decent starter and just hopes for the best.

Now Oil have a disgruntled goaltender who wants out (at least would have been a great backup for next season) and a 40 year old who probably will retire. So you guys need 2 goaltenders thanks to management. Koskinen 100% would have played better vs Colorado too.

There were multiple play options by the D man (Bourchard) but the bottom line is whichever you choose, you CANNOT lose that play and allow the guy to get an open shot. Its a failure is not an option play, and when you fail on those type of plays, its usually fatal. No excuses because the D-man had the inside track and got there first.

I see comments like "Seems like he(Smith) could be a decent keep, just needs some experience." and I shake my head. I should stop reading comments. 90% of you only watch hockey when "your team" is in the playoffs.

  • This was a statement win. Everyone (except Avs fans) were against the Avalanche. The Avs fanbase had to cheer for our team alone. We had no backup. It was us against all other hockey fans and the media. Pundits kept declaring how everything was going to be fine for the Oilers as they head back home. They forgot one thing. The Colorado Avalanche are road warriors. Going into tonight’s game, they were 5-0 going into tonight. Now, it’s 6-0. Don’t even argue with me on this one, Oilers fans. Kane is going to be suspended on Monday for that dirty hit on Kadri. I found it truly disgusting how the Oilers fans were cheering that Kadri was injured. I had to confirm that I wasn’t re-watching Game 3 against the Blues. When McDavid scored the first goal, I was not concerned. Francouz comes through when it really matters. He got his revenge by robbing McDavid late in the game. Frankie brings it and it is time that everyone else acknowledges it. His game 2 performance was not a fluke. The Avs are a resilient team. No amount of injuries will break the team’s spirit and will. When someone goes down, we have players who will step up. Oilers forgot a key depth player from the Avalanche. His name is JT Compher. The sheer amount of disrespect Compher receives is insane. Did the Oilers forget that he scored 2 goals in game 1? He is a fighter who gives it his all. If anyone is surprised by Nichushkin’s contribution, don’t. This is what he does. His two-way style brings offensive opportunities. He could have easily had 4 goals tonight if Smith didn’t turbocharge his adrenaline. He is an UFA after this year and Sakic knows that he is not going anywhere. Sakic was the man who brought him in when he hit rock bottom. He believed in Nichushkin. Within the last 2 years, Nichushkin has been playing the best hockey of his life. His NHL career was saved because he joined the Avalanche. As much as people can debate that Kadri is the better player, I personally prefer re-signing Nichushkin over Kadri because he has a higher ceiling. He is just getting started. Lehkonen and Rantanen were monsters in the 3rd defensively. Do you know how much Rantanen wants to win? He didn’t stop trying to clear the puck when he lost his stick. He fought to clear the zone with his glove. He could have injured himself, but he didn’t care. He was willing to put his body on the line to secure the win. His defensive efforts were rewarded with a crucial empty netter. This is how the Avalanche are built. They don’t play mind games. They don’t get into silly tiffs. They ignore intimidation and literal death threats. They just keep their head down and focus on winning. That is the winning culture that motivates this team. They want the cup and will not stop playing for it until it is in their hands. I hope Kadri will be cleared to play in the next game. Game 4 is another trap game. The Avs learned their lesson against the Blues in game 5. They are not going to make the same mistake again. It ends on Monday. Rantanen alone tied in shots with McDavid, Draisaitl and Kane combined. Still think the Avs are not dominant, Oilers fans? Edit: Adrian Dater tweeted that Kadri is out for the rest of the series and maybe more via Bednar. Kane is done
