It's good to remind couple facts: 1. Miguel was unseeded. He was 14th in the ranking by then. 2. He beat Ramy Ashour, then Omar Mosaad, then Ali Farag (no 2), Raphael Kandra on semis and finally Shorbaghy in the final, the world's no 1. 3. First Latin American ever that reached a British open final ever. 4. He was 32 years old, shorbaghy 27. 5. Miguel's height is 1.70m Shorbaghy 1.85m 6. Miguel is born and grew in Bogota, which is 2600m above the sea level. That explains his lungs stamina. This is one of the most inspiring and unforgettable matches ever in squash. If Miguel could do it, anyone can.
Ahhhh so happy for him!! Elshorbagy was impressively polite as well :)
I'm so pleased for Miguel Rodriguez. Total respect to Mohamed both were warriors. Come on PSA squash surely you can make this match available in entirety!
It already is... at psaworldtour.com/tv and eurosportplayer.com 😀
PSA SQUASHTV Free on KZhead!!😉 Think of it as a public service for making the finest game viewable for all! ...loved the coverage over last few days by the way.
Haha... maybe for a Christmas Cracker or something in the distant future, but don't think our subscribers or broadcast partners would be very happy with us if we did it now.
Thx. Edited
Just to add my thanks as a subscriber for the squash TV presentation - the commentaries have got better and the camera work is very good. Only gripe is please don't cut the start of rallies by showing a replay of the previous point - live squash needs to stay live.
This result made my day! life changing for Miguel, beautiful..
WOW. What an amazing result and match. I am really glad for Rodriguez, such a deserving winner.
spoiler alert!
@@SeaofStrength Lol, it was years ago.
That first rally is something else! Such entertainment
You can't coach that style of play
The most entertaining player of the last few years in my book and totally deserved winner of the greatest squash tournament around.
Thanks PSA squash TV. Very well covered of a fantastic final.
Really glad for the cannonball! He's one of my favorites. Always knew he was capable of this and more. And MES, oh boy, I'm short of words. What tenacity, such a fighter, he's amazing!
A popular win for The Cannonball he's been due a big win
2017-18 was one of my favorite years for squash. You had so many first time champs and upsets, it was just so entertaining.
Great match but can we get a rip for that trophy
Couldn’t be happier for this guy! He works so hard out there and is ridiculously exciting to watch. Greatest diver in squash history lol
Really happy for rodriguez .. shorbhagy was physically exhausted after the 3rd game, and tried the desperate time delaying tricks ( getting the court cleaned literally after every point ) , but in the end, rodriguez was physically in a much better shape .. shorbhagy had 3 very grueling 5 setters , and it eventually took a toll on him.. but overall it was a fantastic final and tournament , and a much deserved victory for the Cannon Ball!
As a Colombian, living in the UK and fan of the sport, this is a profound moment of National Pride, VAMOS MIGUEL.
Awesome match and effort from Rodriguez. Especially after being out for so long. He deserves the win.
No disrespect to MES, but good for the game to see a new name on the hallowed BO trophy! I should have realised Rodriguez was in form after watching him despatch Ashour early in the tournament (although Ashour did appear to be struggling with some injury) -- and then Mosaad and Farag. Great effort, Miguel!
There were a few injuries but he certainly had to earn his place in the final.
The most emotional and deserved victory in years!!
Thanks for both players for offering us a wonderful match, bearing in mind that Elshorbagy was fasting and that had undoubtedly affected his physical performance, yet,he was within an inch to win too. The rise of a new star named Rodriguez.
ali farag too, at quarter match
unbelievable! Brilliant . . . .
One of the most entertaining matches ever!!!!
EL-Shorbagy was fasting, good bless him he made a historic game
No he wasn't lol He got hurt
A star is born
Big respect MIGUEL Angel, that was a brilliant and deserved match.
Congratulations to Miguel Angel Rodriguez! The colombian cannonball make us all feel happy! He deserved and we hope there will be more trophies! Big achievement!
Gracias pequeño gigante por darle estas alegrias a nuestro hermoso pais, papa haces la diferencia. grande miguel, recuerdos del club deportivo cañasgordas
Chills. What an amazing match. Rodriguez is such a warrior and fitness plays a serious role!!
Im so happy Rodriguez won! He is the most entertaining squash player and such a nice guy. However I wasn't a Mo Elshorbagy fan before this match but I think I might be now.
I think he was also fasting, so you gotta give it to him
Both players shows the gesture of sportsmanship Respect
Felicitaciones!!! que excelente noticia, Gracias Rodriguez que gran logro, histórico!!! gracias por dejar el nombre de Colombia en alto
The match against Gaultier and the 5 setters on the first rounds have paid dividends now in the fina for Elshorbagy, but all credit to Miguel Angel who had a pretty difficult draw (Ashour, Mossad, Farag) and he manages to reach the final in better shape
ES looked like he might lose every game he played, I'm surprised he got all the way to the final.
Muchas felicidades, Miguel!!!
Those two guys are such a couple of athletes, professionals and human beings.
So great for the squash world!!!
I don't understand why there is no rest day between playing days. It is ridiculous and torturous given how extremely physical squash is on the body. You need time to recover. To get better quality squash, there should always be one day off between matches. Never seen players cry and suffer in any other sport. It is clear he is unable to perform at optimal level. Elshorbaghy is a true warrior and a beast.
Thats the point of the game, it is brutal and relentless. Most club comps are multiple matches per day. They have already shortened the matches from the 3+ hours of the 70's and early 80's.
I believe the ToC in New York gives a day off in-between.
For initial stages till QF. not between SF and F. They do deserve a break. Such strenuous activity release so much cortisol and Stress accumulates in the body and causes problems eventually in their lives.
The strong will survive, the weak will drop! I loved seeing Mo dig deep, it leveled the playing field.
Must be easy for you to say, sitting on your couch or work desk and watching this video. haha. It surely did leveled the match but that is not good for players short term and long term well-being. Also, that is not the best squash viewers get to see. They should experiment with rest day between semi-final and final. There is a reason why ALL other sports have rest days. It also prolongs the longevity of their careers.
fantastic game, fantastic winner and a gracious 2nd
When the Cannon ball defeated the General at the TOC, I knew he was on track. World Champions do not lose games easily and he had to work very hard to beat the Beast. Cramping in the match is brutal, all the top players know this pain. Congrats to both players for such an entertaining performance and thanks to PSASquashTV.
Fantastically entertaining player to watch Rodriguez. Made up for him that he’s won a tournament.
Excelente!!!
awesome, just awesome
Maravilloso Triunfo!!!!!!!!!!!1 FELICITACIONES Miguel Ángel Rodríguez
Miguel, congratulations on winning the British Open, one of the top tournaments in the world...just amazing...i seen the highlights....glory to the Lord...giving you the skills & opportunity to play a wonderful sport...you have tremendous people behind you (your mom & dad) and of course people from Colombia...you have put your Country on the squash map of the world...there's only one more achievement left for you this year to be Number One in the world...you can do it with continue hard work ethic and dedication that you...and most important God behind you....Miguel once again congratulations !!!! well done....John from Toronto/Colombia
Is Miguel a Christian? Great testimony, that he dedicated it to God at the end.
So happy for Rodriguez. It's been a long time coming. Can't imagine his frustration; playing in the league for so long and not winning a meaningful title.
SO GREAT CONGRATS MIGUEL!!! SO PROUD OF YA. I LOVED SEEING A SOUTH AMERICAN WIN THE BRITISH OPEN!!
congratulations Miguel you are a gladiator... hoy deserved it.
well done Miguel!
Oh Mai Gad, Amazing Guys🥵
O mai gad ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂
Am so proud of my countryman. 🇨🇴 colombian pride
BOOM goes the CANNONBALL!
101 minutes !!!! Epic stuff.
No manches Rodríguez me hiciste el día soy mexicana y te admiro
RODRIGUEZ, YOU DESERVE IT!! WELL DONE CHAMP!
Grande Migue. Orgullo :)
grande colombiano. Un orgullo para los sudamericanos
Now it is proved that against all rumours the Beast is made from human. Just a couple of really demanding 5 setters with >190 heart beat rate and MES reached his physical limits. I never thought I will see him being this exhausted - always thought he is just a machine... Congrats to both players!
HOLY CRAP!
Wow what a game ❗️❗️
Congrats
The first time from 40 years see an Europe player win
Ummm... he's from Colombia! And Gregory Gaultier from France won the year before this
@@squashtv thank you but i still think Egyptian s are good in this game
So happy Rodriguez won :D
my favourite bit is 5:30 where they started squashing each other
wow 😍😍😍😍
I feel for Rodriguez. What a cool guy he deserves it!
I never seen Shorbagy got cramp in PSA. Respect for Rodriguez for being patient and not doing too much disco time
just wow
Sick ggwp
Still ashour vs el shorbagy the best squash game ever
This was a sensational final. The only thing it lacked was both players in top-form, with Elshorbaghy running on fumes from the 2nd game. As has been said many times before, how the hell are we not an Olympic sport!?
Rodriguez is a champion material, respect from Pakistan!
Rodriguez is so composed and accurate in this match...
That dive 🤙 0:32
Like that Rodriguez brings his racket in for the presentation presumably to keep Technifibre happy but wasn't he using an old model - looks like the same yellow Carboflex 125 I have. Elshorbagy was using the latest one.
I like thi game😍😍😍😘😘
Everyone saying MES was tired, no doubt. But Miguel played more matched, MES was seeded number 1.
Everyone is going to be tired after playing a world series squash match every day for a week; not being tired in the final is part of winning a tournament.
B1J0D MES was fasting also so he was hungry
Wow. Way to go Rodriguez. He came back from the wilderness for that title
Best match in the world
Anyone who said fasting is not the reason, try competing without food and drinks. On the other hand, good confident display from miguel! Well deserved, legend made!
I play fasted a lot of times, and sometimes I play better. Granted I do drink water, and probably MES cramping came from not being properly hydrated.
i do up to 24 hour fast and i play better and for longer. and recover faster. i only break the fast AFTER i do intense workout maybe for 3-4 hours with almost no breaks; i try not to eat before i workout. the only reason why he would be more fatigued during a fast is if hes on a high carb diet.
Un orgullo rodriguez
Exceptional model behaviour from El Shorbagy throughout the tournament, he begins to understand his status
woooow! 101 minuts
Loving that Poundland trophy
how much prize money exist in squash tournaments?
🔥🔥🔥
the lady's face at 0:39 hahaha gold
Well played elshorbagy (he was fasting as well) but creds to Rodriguez, 100% deserving winner
What was the issue at 2:20?
Elshorbagy was so nice
Well done Rodriguez
did the trophy break?
It would be great if they upload the full match highlights

PSA SQUASHTV thanks for the quick reply!!👍👍
you're most welcome!
Go Rodriguez.Great respect from Shorbagy
Wht
Wow 1rallie beast😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
If that first shot doesn't end up being the rally of the year.....
Elshorbagy seemed very tired. That gave Rodrigues the mental edge .
Definitely below par. Still took 5 games to beat him though.
Shorbagy is fasting Ramadan, no food, no drinking
Yeah that ain't going to help
Amando Azmy pretty sure athletes have a pass in Ramadan, along with pregnant women, and other special circumstances -- Ramadan pass for pregnant women makes sense cause he was playing like one. I'm not a big El Shorbagy fan but it's hard to believe that Rodriguez beat a 100% El Shorbagy.
Have you any proof he was fasting? No - thought not. Conditions during the week on that court have clearly been demanding - probably very humid - and Elshorbagy has had some brutal matches but still almost won despite throwing the 4th.
Ma boi Rodriguez!
How was that cup broken though
Rodriguez should have a “super man” t-shirts as well!!!
Anyone know if shorbagy was fasting before this match ?
Joshua Lim He is muslim Certainly he is fasting ramadan
Not necessarily.
watching99134 Fasting in Ramadan is necessary for any muslim Only petients and travellers dont fast
I am pretty sure that there are some exemptions, and professional sports seems to be one of those mitigating circumstances... besides, are not all the Abrahamic religions simply attempts at explaining the world and all the complexities in it?
What's a "petient"? Fasting in the middle of a sports tournament sounds pretty stupid, they wouldn't be able to compete if they did that.
Colombia siempre arriba
