I was a huge Double Dragon fan back in the day and beat em ups and fighting games were my favorite genres as a kid. The second I saw who was playing Billy Lee....I knew we had a problem. To me Double Dragon will always be the worst video game movie of all time. As bad as Annihillation is...it at least ATTEMPTS to resemble some form of it's source material in some way. Double Dragon on the other hand appears to assign well know titles to characters at random who in no way resemble characters from the game outside of their gender

    • A big part of what made his character so memorable is that the actors had a lot of input on their lines and actions while the script was still being written, and Linden Ashby especially took advantage of this to improvise some of his better lines, including, "Those were 500 dollar sunglasses, asshole!" Sometimes that's the sort of thing you need for a movie's success, rather than a single director's "perfect vision."

Midway did change a number of characters based on what the first movie did with them and gave them more defining personalities that weren't really expanded on in the games at that point, one of the most notable being Kano. It's still happening to this very day with the newest Mortal Kombat game using the first MK Movie design for Shang Tsung and it's honestly one of the best designs for him ever in my opinion at least. So while I think this lawsuit would have failed spectacularly and the idea behind it in the first place is pure bullshit, it does have *some* legs to stand on at least but not enough to steal the whole franchise from the owners.

The games seem to make a point of every cyborg having their own thing going on, even MK9(Maybe one of the PS1-PS2 games before it, but my memory of those is fuzzy at best) basically established the (named) cyborgs abilities are an extension of what they were like before being cyberized(When Sub-Zero is cyberized instead of Smoke, he has ice themed abilities for example). I know that wasn't well established back when Annihilation came out, but this scene coulda had Sektor and barely been changed. But that also leads to a point where did Lucia go after DMC2 since she was never again mentioned in DMC4 and DMC5? Also the way that they portray Dante it seemed that this was during his "emo" phase after DMC1 where when Vergil (who was possessed by Mundus) "died" making Dante probably depressed as well as his iconic name change "Devils never cry" due to him saying Devils don't have the heart to cry like humans. Though at the end of DMC2 Dante cheered up and stayed in hell as a vacation and came out of it and hung out in the Devil May Cry shop and sobered up but also had his serious side that he shown in DMC4.

  • That reveal at the end that Larry made Foodfight is like an MCU post credit scene. You have got to do a Wha Happun on that film.

  • "Rebirth" was the concept pitch; "Legacy"was the series. Anyway, great job. I like the "What Happened?" series.

  • I love that Linden Ashby basically completely turns into Johnny Cage in that rant. I'm shocked NetherRealm has never somehow figured out a way for Cage to say that in an MK game.

  • Watching this after three years of it coming out...and maybe I'm insane here, but...this is actually one of my favorite childhood movies! Like, I knew the cgi and acting in this kind of movie was bad? It's like...hmm...one of the best movies to watch on a bad movie night, you know? I loved it!! 👏🏽🔥

  • man I'm binging on your channel because I've zoned out so much on things you made videos for and don't recall any memory of social life worthy to remember other than those... Clover Studio, MK Annihilation and Special Forces, Tristar's Godzilla, other media works which debacle I think no one could give a crap because well, some of those were my fond memories that others couldn't discuss because somehow I happened to be drawn to them by myself. No reviews to read, no peers to talk with, I was just a kid in SE Asia country whose foreign media consumption amount taught more than I could have conversation with friends, specially in early 2000. thank you for the well-researched stuffs, it was weird to know that I did like things of poor taste rather unconsciously for so long, but I still do kinda like them somehow.

  • The best thing I can say about Crazy Larry was the great faith and confidence he had in MK as an IP, which was pretty wild when you consider the era. Too bad the guy has some very terrible decision making skills on his side. Hopefully he's only gotten his role on the new movie as a courtesy and is expected to keep quiet throughout production...

  • I saw that Mortal Kombat live show, The actress who played Sonya was from Minnesota (where I’m from) so she was visiting with friends after the show so I was able to get her autograph. I found out later that she had previously posed for Playboy later, she was a medium height blonde with a pretty firm body, typical playboy fodder for that time. She gave me an autograph without even breaking eye contact from her friend or even without skipping a beat. If I didn’t have the autograph I would of doubt she even saw me.
