Heavy hailstorms accompanied by strong winds and rainfall lashed several parts of Manipur on Sunday leaving a trail of destruction. Streets in Imphal Valley were covered by a thick layer of hailstones, disrupting vehicular movement.
The hailstorm also caused damage to houses and crops in several parts of the state including Thoubal and Bishnupur districts. The size of the hailstones were big enough to make holes on tin roofs. While several houses were reportedly blown away by heavy winds, trees too were uprooted in various parts of the state. Vehicles parked outside were seen with cracked windshields.
Pictures of farms being damaged and livestock being killed also started doing the rounds on social media. Wild birds were also not spared by the hails.
Meanwhile, reacting to the sudden change in weather, Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced compensation for those affected by the hailstorm and urged the people to reach out to their respective district administrations for assistance.
