Yoga For Low Back and Hamstrings | 30-Minute Yoga

Join me for this stretchy 30-minute low to the ground yoga practice for the back and hamstrings! This gentle class invites a full body awareness and focuses on a deep opening of the muscles around the hips, lower back, and legs.
Our hamstrings can get tight when we sit too much or when we overtrain the quadriceps. When this happens, the hamstrings begin to pull down on the sit bones, making the pelvis and hips tight and flattening the natural curvature in the low back.
Create stability while welcoming in a relaxing release as we work to invite equilibrium to both mind and body. Build your practice toward Sleeping Vishnu Pose! Breathe deep, move mindfully, and enjoy!
Let me know how it goes for you in the comment section down below!

  • Every YWA video has so many comments I can’t imagine who might actually happen to read this one; I’ve never commented before but this practice spurred me to write. I’ve done yoga for many years on and off, and been a near-daily YWA practitioner since COVID began in 2020, surfing through her remarkably prolific offerings with no apparent plan, but writing down the name of every video I tried. My lists tell me that I first tried this one in mid-2020, and I remember I just couldn’t get my bod to stop cramping in the last poses. This morning I revisited it like it was a new gift, and fully immersed in every opportunity she provides here for total body awareness. My mind allowed my leg to move from the hip in a way I didn’t think I could - that’s what you get for thinking! What I’m wagging on and on here for is, basically, if you’re just starting, keep going. And if you find a hitch along the way, definitely keep going so later you can say Wow! I get it! Grateful for the myriad and unfolding gifts of Yoga With Adriene.

  • These stretches are all quite difficult for me, especially the poses on the sides. I was greeted by a comment from myself a year ago in which I expressed great frustration and a lack of enjoyment of this practice. It's good to know that I have improved in my ability to activate my core muscles and to support my back, but I am also grateful for the opportunity to be more open and move with more ease of mind. Feeling wobbly, rolling around when I was not intending to roll around, led to laughter and smiles rather than tears and frustration. I am grateful to be here! I am grateful for love. Look with love rather than fear ♥

  • None of your videos have helped me as much as this one. They are all great yoga instructions, but this video is truly phenomenal. The flow is so perfect, your explanations are simple and understandable as possible, the pace is just right, the movements are wonderful in both the relief they provide and the yogic purpose, the focus on breath and presence within the body. This one is truly special to me. I actually realized 1, that as a student it is my duty to look at what you’re trying to teach in order to most utilize our time, and 2, that yoga is not just about relieving back pain or calming down but about treating the body as an aesthetic unit of physical mobility. By that I mean directing one’s attention and effort into positioning the body in beautiful ways, beautiful in the sense that they incite pleasure, relief and oneness, just like any other art form.

  • I legit can't put my feelings into words anymore. Each video turns out to be exactly what my mind and body are screaming for time after time, over and over and over again. I've been diagnosed with chronic tightness of all parts of the body as a result of my cerebral palsy but my back and hamstrings are usually the tightest areas I try to stretch out every morning. There's something larger than life in this sense of awareness in this community and that's what makes me love it so much. We all pretty much feel and understand each other without saying a word through our practice together. I am forever grateful to have found this community and to have experienced this sense of awareness with everyone practicing. Thank you, Adriene for the love that never withers. Keep going, everyone. You got this. Much love. Namaste.

Today it DID IT; the hip pain was gone, my leg waving is half of what it can be, but I’m thrilled with the progress. The take away is just keep at it, the stronger you get the easier it becomes. Thanks Adriene for being there, you can change our lives!! Love you. Brenda

  • Near the end of this practice I found myself starting to tear up. As Adriene said “life is good” I felt the corners of my mouth turn up and suddenly I felt a genuine smile. I’ve done basic yoga for many years to help condition my body for other sports and keep me feeling loose, but the more complicated yoga shapes were never something I thought I could do. Those laid down stretches were quite difficult, and I felt this small pit of fear that I wouldn’t be able to do it, or I would hurt myself, or we would go too quickly and I wouldn’t understand. But Adriene lead the positions so gently and slowly and kindly that I was able to keep up. I was able to connect in to myself in a way that I’ve never experience in yoga. Sitting there in our end position I felt my shoulder pull down and open more than I’ve ever felt and I genuinely felt so proud of myself. I did that!! I did those hard yoga poses, definitely modified, but I felt them! I benefited from that work, and I felt connected. I just wanted to say thank you so much Adriene, for you kindness and patience in teaching. By namaste I had tears running down my cheek and felt this great sense of relief and pride. Thank you thank you thank you!!

  • When you mentioned the practice's potential of changing my day for the better, Adriene, I went "yeesss, that's what I love about this!" You have such a magical power to make everyone feel better and I'm so so grateful for that. I'm very flexible so while doing the last stretch I could hook my arm around my leg and bring it to touch my head. For a moment I felt funny, as if the leg wasn't a part of me, just something external I was hugging (since I didn't feel a great stretch), but then I quickly reminded myself that my body is one moving part! Hope everyone doing this have as much or more fun than I had 😆

I realised my bum was always poking out because I wasn't able to tilt my pelvis and my front hips were not flexible enough to do so. Because the top of the mountain is still all ash (at least it was 20 years ago, which isn't so long in geological terms) it is three steps forward, two steps back for a long time. • Refresh Day 16, 3rd day in a row for me. Found it hard to focus today but still enjoyed the practice, especially since I deal with a lot of pain in my left hip because I strained something a few years ago and it never really healed, so I'm glad for every practice focusing on opening the hips. Thank you❤

  • Hello whoever is reading this. I hope Adriene sees it. My low back and sciatic gives me a lot of trouble. my hip and leg muscles are super tight, but through this workout it makes me feel like I won't always be this way. Maybe one day my legs will go straight like Adriene's do. Thank you Adriene for putting all your yoga on KZhead for free!!! It is changing my life!
