Shauno's got THE list of mods you can make to your diesel 4WD to get safe & reliable POWER! Dodgy tunes and cheap parts can cause thousands of dollars in damage, and even write off your 4WD.
To talk to an expert about making more power with your 4WD, talk to ultimatedieseltuning.com.au/
Car park or cowboy tunes are never a good idea. ONLY get your diesel 4WD tuned by dyno tuning experts, and only use top quality performance parts if you're really going for it!
Myself watching this with my 2h that runs on vegetable oil 🤣
320k on my 200, zero mods and zero issues. I think regular servicing is the key.
Pull the intake. Throw it on a dyno, guarantee it’ll be well down on power
True. I think all these mods basically just maintain a higher level of performance but will give your vehicle a longer life
it'll be well & truly contaminated with soot mate!

I'll second that. I've got a 75 series with a 1hz from 1994 and I'd love to see more content about cars from the 90s before everything started being run by a computer. It's still a great channel but I'd love to see stuff related to vehicles and engines more like mine and there's a lot of us with cars from that era

Love the videos guys. Graham could you bring your mountain bike on a trip one time? Love to see some riding!
Thanks we really needed that, if anyone needs anything you guys are the guys to go to
Good advice. Additionally, you should perform diesel oil changes and filter at least every 10,000km with synthetic oil in common-rail engines (6,000km if round town and lots of idling in traffic). Thanks
Really like the tip for the intake mate! I'll definitely look in to it when I reach som 30 or 40k. Great video again shauno mate! By the way would love to see a tutorial vid on modding / lifting suspension! Keep those great videos posted mate, love from Belgium🤘
My commonrail patrol has egr block, provent 200 catch can and a custom tune from ufi and I 100% agree with shauno about all being good mods and to keep engine healthy and live a long life (hopefully!!)
I’m about to do an egr block also, have you experienced any issues?
Aahh yes I haven't checked my intake yet 🤔 cheers Shauno
Hi temp alarm. I use a dry mount probe type with 2 channels. Install one on the rear of the head, other on the transmission. Will warn driver of any issues like bad fan, low coolant, split transmission hose before any oem gauge.
Great practical advice that I didn't know!
Go the Direction Plus gear. Easy install with everything you need. I have everything they have to offer on my Everest and haven’t had an issue.
I have a 2015 JKU wrangler and i also added a catch can! Crazy after a couple thousand miles there is some crap in there, not a ton, but def some! I do have a 3.6l v6 pentastar. Added the snorkel too! Lots of mud in minnesota just like you aussie guys in the summers!
Is there an optimum time to do a custom tune? Ex. After at least 5000km, or can you do it straight from the factory? Is it necessary to do it again after some time, or is a tune a once off that will have the same benefit throughout your vehicles life?
Hey shauno, wouldn't the box tune be better on the 200's now that they can modify the shift points and lockup points? Rather than having a box to tell you box to tell your box when to lock up. Just tune the box so the ECU controls it all rather than an intercept of PWM signal.
I've just fitted a second fuel filler from a wrecked l200 on my 05 L200 4wd, in preping to run it on vege oil
My dad used to put a regular inline fuel filter in front of his diesel filter. Changed with every service and every time I was shocked how dirty it was
Shauno. When will we see the rest of the build video of your LC200? It's looking schmick from this video.

Diff gears on a 200 is a must
hey shauno, when is the big 200 going to hit the tracks i cant wait to see it.
Great videos. Would like one on airbox upgrades for my 200 series
Nice one Jesse, not bad for a plumber 😉. Great work shop set up too 🤩
Install some fans on vehicles with a top mount intercooler. They dont enough airflow without fans specially when moving slowly and will tell the ecu the intake temps are high and will reduce power
Yes Shauno!! My vans going to be a ripper after this!!!
I was looking at putting an oil cooler on my 6 speed 3.2 Ranger, am I better with a lock up kit on the transmission or should I do both?
Hi Shauno, I love your many adventures and dream of a chance to get out and experience the same one day. Just a question about who you'd recommend in Sydney - Unfortunately we don't have an Ultimate Diesel Tuning centre (that I know of) in Sydney, do you have anyone you could recommend? Thanks
On the 2011-2020 BT’s or Rangers replace the hot and cold side intercooler hoses. You can kits for $150.
Is fitting a snorkel to 4wd worth it. I'm not going in water. I have been told it will decrease your fuel consumption. And an exhaust from dpf back would that help with breathing or just noise. Thanks
Great info shauno
I drive a new Volvo XC60 AWD with B4 Diesel engine. Do these apply or are these mods for big trucks only? Thanks.
Have yet to find a pre fuel filter and catch can kit that fits a 2007 79 series workmate, no ABS and fuse box are in the way of everything.
can you use a factory fuel filter as a secondary fuel filter as they are easy to get and take the same filters?
G'day Shauno! Love all your guys content! Quick question: What if you happened to install a catch can at 100,000kms in your 4wd without getting an intake clean first? Can you still get it done or will it damage your catch can poly pipes etc?
You can still get it done mate.
@@UltimateDieselTuning is it alright if I install at 160k km ? Nissan D40 TD2.5 engine 2012
Lock up kit is the best mod you can do for an auto if you do sand driving and towing. Even everyday driving its worth it, if drive in S mode.
Gave ultimate diesel tuning a call for a nice engine check over on a 4jj1. No tune. And was turned away cos it’s had 330,000 long distance km on it.
What’s this..? A Tuesday upload, how goods that!
Gotta love it!
oil seperator container there are many types out that taking that your run your crankcase fumes through extracting the oil out before it goes back into the intake manifold, will reduce extensively that gunk buildup
I'm pretty sure that a catch can was one of the recommended mods. As in the Provent shown in the video.
@@einfelder8262 thanx may have missed it!
Hey legends , i got a question what's the average cost to rebuild a diesel engine?
Hi Shauno, could you recommend anyone in WA for the torque converter lock up? Cheers
I heard a chemical clean can destroy your DPF. Do you bypass it?
Hey Shauno, where would you rate a larger exhaust, airbox and snorkel? Best to do those things before a custom dyne tune?
why would you tune a car and then mod it?
Larger exhaust - gives it a bit more power & torque once tuned to suit & more response down low (for non DPF models); snorkel doesn't make any difference to the engine's performance; airbox - depending on which one it can make a difference but again once tuned to suit.
Would be keen on a wheel selection video, steel vs alloy and all that goes with it
Ronny Dahl has a great video on it
@@thomas.ambrosini beat me to it haha, was just going to mention ronny dahl haha
EGR's need to be banned, it's just manufacturers being cheap. They kill more engines than they help. I'm helping my dad replace the high pressure fuel pump on his Discovery 3 and the intakes are caked in gunk at 180,000km. One mod I like to do is upgrading the exhaust. Gives a little bit of power but I've also found it help economy by letting the engine breath easier.
Lock up kit is the best mod you can do for an auto if you do sand driving and towing. Ever everyday driving its worth it, if drive in S mode.
Never do a carbon clean by pushing it through the engine. You'll glaze the cylinders and blow it up. Take everything off up to the head and ultrasonic clean yourself or find a shop that does it properly and not just rev the crap out of your engine pushing it through and leaving most of it jammed up at the head ports.
agreed
A men bruv
Depends on the on car system. Udt uses chemicals to break the soot down. Benefits is their system actually cleans out the valve train which cannot be done with a manual clean
Hey Cal, that's not the case with the chemicals that we use. We have performed thousands of these cleans with zero issues. And no, we don't rev the engine whilst it's doing its job. Our machines are extremely effective in removing the soot & the process is harmless to engines. Cheers!

Every question answered. You guys are the go to for anything 4WD. Thanks for another awesome and valuable vid to keep us traveling around our awesome country!!!

Is a lock up kit available for the NP300?
Great vid mate, I have used Ultimate diesel tuning on my previous Prado and can't fault the performance but a question that gets asked a lot is what happens if you get a tune on a new vehicle, as in the new car warranty??
Everything engine related is void, gearbox void, diffs void. Your wiper motor is still covered.
Good to hear! Your warranty is fine mate, they can't just go & void it due to a custom dyno tune having been carried out. In the case of any issues, they have to prove, with sufficient evidence, that the tune caused the issue before they try to void the warranty.
Any new vehicle that has a tune is factually illegal to operate anymore on public Australian roads.... they've modified the approved emmision calibration , and that is 100% not allowed and any by product that the tune provides can and does void warranty especially if the increased power / torque exceeds OEM parameters.... let alone anything more than 25% needs a blue plate.... which UDT and many others dont provide.. again making your car no longer compliant for on highway use...... they will tell you what ever it takes to make a sale.... but TMR will tell u the truth....
@@UltimateDieselTuning Nice idea, mate, but when you try and get Toyota to repair the CV joints you broke with the tune on board, you'll meet a brick wall. They won't even fix manufacturing faults like DPF and airbox leaks without a class action.
@@einfelder8262 in the thousands & thousands of vehicles that we have custom dyno tuned, it is extremely rare should there be issues with a dealership.
Done all these mods to my 3L D4D motor apart from a tune. I got a blanking plate put on my egr, what does that actually do? Minimise crap going back through??
Plate is the solution.
It’s illegal
correct.
I’ve got an hj47 with a stock old 2h. Is it worth getting a tune not necessarily to make it faster but just to make it last longer as they are getting a bit long in the tooth now

got a question for you guys: where do you start to learn to do these mods? is it from a friend, or from a garage, or other? how can I learn the best I can with doing these mods? e.g., knowing where to attach hoses, where to get a custom bracket done... etc. as someone who's never worked on an engine before, in the end of this experience, I want to be able to some of these mods myself. Cheers guys
Can find the stuff you’re after online, brackets come with the kits & instructions come with it aswell.. if you aren’t that confident watch videos or ask a friend that knows Diesel engines
I think the biggest thing is to just start, as with most things you learn as you go or run into a problem. Online, local mechanic, mates or the install manuals all give a helping hand
ust wondering if there is any reason why we never see an Amarok on any of your trips?? I'm looking at putting a new one together later this year if any one had any suggestions ??
Is it available in australia?
EGR systems should be a fairly regular service item for inspection & cleaning when required, no further action needed. They've been fitted for a couple of decades now, so we should know what to expect & what to do with them. Adding a catch can is a placebo & nothing more as all it does is act as a condenser for the gaseous moisture in the hot exhaust gas, which likely catches some solid particles & then sits around in the catch can gathering more condensed liquid, then evaporating on a constant cycle until you get that half teaspoon of unidentified syrup which supposedly saves your engine somehow. I don't think they do anything particularly harmful, but they definitely don't achieve anything either. Service your EGR systems! I'm an automotive design engineer btw 👍
Yea you probably had a hand in all problem in the first place designing EGRs then ripping off catch cans as useless. Ok mate

Only problem is with a catch can is that it tends to cause the rain main seal on a np300 to leak.
That shouldn't be due to the catch if it is set up and operating correctly. A correctly set up catch can should not impact negatively on crank case pressure. Also if the can was full this could result in a blown rear main I.e. anything that impacts on the crank case pressure such that it needs to find somewhere else to vent like the rear main.

Here at UDT we have our own warranty as well.
I did a full delete on my Duramax, larger piping, and tuned it. Old piping was full of soot. Definitely came to life and gained 3mpg

Upside, and locked, down mostly.
Good mods, but every mod listed can void new car warranty. Had a 79 series denied for a turbo, stated in writing from Toyota. Denied for catch can and pre filter also listed in writing, manta exhaust, dpf back.
Yup, anything to get out of paying.
If manta advertised it as warranty friendly they should go to bat for you to make toyota honor their warranty.
that's when you challenge your dealer. They can't just go & deny warranty claims like that - they must prove that the mod caused the failure. Pre-filters are an extra safety net for the engines (they are just a filter so cannot damage anything in the engine) & if a catch can is fitted correctly it too cannot cause damage. Same with the exhaust.
@@UltimateDieselTuning Yes I agree, I am a diesel fitter and have been for 35 years. The catch can and pre filter are vehicle specific that where fitted, and were only on vehicle for 1 week.
