One of my favorite things about the scene is when Mike notices the bugs going quiet. You can tell he's like "well that's odd" right before he hears the horn.

This is almost certainly a callout to Once Upon a Time in the West -- there's a massacre of a family early in the movie that happens after the bugs go eerily quiet. That movie is one of Vince Gilligan's favorites.

This scene is a masterclass in sound design. The delay between the gunshot and its sound echoing through the hills. The contrast between what Mike can hear of the execution vs what it actually sounds like to everyone there. The cicadas in the background that you get used to and then are suddenly silenced. And not a single line of dialogue necessary.

@@Dvpainter Yes, used more as a sound effect. You don't even hear his full line, and they don't bother translating it like the other Spanish you hear in the show. Dialogue is defined as a conversation back and forth between multiple characters

Whoever it was that decided to make Mike a sniper in addition to his other talents is a genius. It makes his character even more awesome.
Well, duh. Hardly genius, since it's the type of thing you'd find in a typical action-movie character (e.g. Martin Riggs, et al.). Don't get me wrong; many other aspects of the show are indeed brilliant, but a lot of people would argue that Mike's extensive skill set makes his character kinda "Mary Sue." But personally, I agree with you that it's a nice touch.

Oh, that's good attention to detail: the lag between the gun going off and the sound of it seems to roughly match the distance. Very often done wrong.
Video games get this wrong SO OFTEN with distant explosions!
@@literatemaxdo video games that get it wrong do it too early or too late?
@@VenomCraze224 Too early. Most games will play the sound effects for distant explosions at the same time you see the explosion's visuals
Video games also never get sniper scopes right. They either hide peripheral vision or zooms it with the same magnification as the scope
they almost certainly just fired the blank (or a real bullet into a dummy) for the scene and just had the mic up on the hill where mike was, so the sound was perfectly delayed because it was the ACTUAL sound of the gunshot reaching mike.

4:48 Amazing detail to show that the horn blaring from the car cannot be heard from distance so that only Mike would hear it and not the cartels
What I don't see many people mention is the realistic sound effect of the car horn. I imagine it's because a single frequency for such a long time would be unpleasant to listen to on TV but it also adds some more well-done realism, as if the gunshot wasn't enough.
the doppler effect applies when the car is moving
No. It's phasing with itself somehow.
I love how the middle of the scope only falls directly on Nacho (obviously because he's standing infront of Hector) but its a clever foreshadowing of his death. This scene is essentially a pre-scene to that one

Is it just me or can a vehicle be heard around 2:54 and also around 3:14? (The bugs stop chirping at 3:51 and horn sounds at 3:58). Obviously they had to drive to where Mike was at, as it would be too far to walk. And thenthey had to quickly beat it once they’d sounded the horn, as there’s no sign of anyone as far as Mike can see, and he can see pretty far. 2:54 could be the vehicle arriving where Mike’s car is parked, and 3:14 is them getting turned around so they can drive straight away immediately after the horn sounds. I imagine they arrive, take a moment to ascertain Mike’s location, then get turned around to flee.
It's just you...

Yeah I think I can hear tires on dirt, I’m guessing Gus sent Victor or Tyrus to drive out there after seeing Mike was approaching the area where hector kills people
At 3:39 , Average door width of ~32", Mil reading of 1.2, range approximately 675 meters. Well within range to a point target for a M40 (or M24-ish). Should really have a killflash but that would have 'ruined the scene' with the obligatory thru the scope eye shot.

I'd say Nacho sabotages it first by intentionally standing in the way while they're outside.
"Intentionally"
I don’t think you know what intentionally means
Damn, Nacho must have insanely good eyesight. That, or Gus somehow communicated to him what Mike was doing and what angle he'd be looking at them from, all while he was alone with Salamancas in a torture shed. Or... you're dead wrong

Mike was outsmarted by gus. Normally mike doesn’t give a clue. But gus sees all
Hardly it was Gus himself who pressed the horn with tree branch and wrote the note, probably Victor or Tyrus, but Gus gave the order of course. Gus operated his drug business very carefully and cautiously, he did not like to be personally involved in minor tasks. He did not mind to wipe floors and serve customers in his fast food place though. I think he would have been successful manager and owner of legit business, but of course with less money and power over subordinates. He made only one mistake in whole Br Bad @ BCS years : He had personal vendetta against Hector, he liked to keep him alive and torture him mentally. Finally, when he suspected that Hector talked something important to DEA agents, he decided to hill him personally even though Tyrus could do it and he even offered it. If he would have kept his principle : dont mix personal feelings with business, he probably would have survived. Walt was excellent chemist , but not much of the assassin, he almost screwed up with bell bomb .
When Gus confronted Walt in the beginning of Full Measure, Gus could have disposed of Walt. Instead what Gus does is let Walt go, only to attempt to kill him later in the episode, however at this point Walt had constructed an escape plan. Gus was dumb for not expecting Walt to think of some kind of way to avoid death.

mike should have just taken the shot and nacho would have just been collateral damage
Higher likelihood the bullet would miss than hit in that scenario. There's loss of power over distance to consider, the amount of deflection Nacho's skull would have on the bullet, positioning of Hector's head behind Nacho's which couldn't be seen....
I really doubt Mike wanted to kill Nacho. He likely would have gotten another chance to kill Hector if he kept trying.
@@VolkaerTheir skulls wouldn't be the problem - marksmen don't actually go for headshots IRL. You pretty much always aim for centre mass, a shot in the chest is just as deadly and has a much better chance to hit. But yeah, same issue with trying to penetrate through another person.

Can someone explains why Mike uses a revolver? He's a Vietnam vet so ide think he'd be a Colt guy...is it for the caliber or does he just prefer one?
I think he was a cop a lot longer than he was a soldier. Many old-timer cops use revolvers. Easy to carry and conceal, less likely to jam, and doesn't eject the brass after firing. They regard the limited rounds and smaller caliber as unimportant. Even someone taking regular target practice isn't going to use a pistol unless they're very close to who they're going to shoot. Mike isn't a blast away in the street kind of guy. When he uses a handgun, he's usually right there by his target, and he only fires once.
what's that revolver he's got?
Not a pro by any means but I would assume it’s a .38 snub or something along those lines.
