Dell S2721DGF VS Gigabyte M27Q - Which Monitor Should You Buy?
The Gigabyte M27Q and the Dell S2721DGF are very similar overall. Gaming-wise, the Dell has faster response times. Its refresh rate is just a bit lower, 165Hz compared to the Gigabyte's 170Hz; however, this is a small difference that isn't noticeable. It also has significantly better ergonomics, making it easier to position the screen the way you want. On the other hand, the Gigabyte has more features. It includes a USB-C port that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode, an integrated KVM switch, and a Picture-in-Picture/Picture-by-Picture mode that lets you display two input signals simultaneously, which can be useful for streamers running on two computers.

Just bought the S2721 and am very happy with it, cheaper than M27Q in the Dell sale and have absolutely no complaints. Of course IF I had bought the M27Q I may have been saying exactly the same thing!
Just bought one today because i saw it was on sale
@john B how are you finding the Dell I am considering getting one but am abit confused as I do alot of gaming in a dark room and don't know if this monitor would look good or if I should go for the m27q because of its better contrast
@@potatoskins8155 That was one of my main concerns as well as I tend to play in the dark (!) , but been playing zero dawn and I have been 100% happy with all aspects ( pun not intended ) of my Dell, I would buy one again. I payed £300 on offer, which made the decision easier, tbh I think you would happy with either.
@@johnB-et5ux yeah this on offer right now and from what I can see the m27q just has to much if a high chance of arriving with dead pixels which gigabyte won't replace
@@potatoskins8155 You must be telepathic. that was another concern. I suspect the Dell is a better quality product but have zero evidence to support that. No dead pixels at all on mine and other than reducing brightness did not need to adjust anything, maybe I was just lucky. Do not forget to change display settings to 165Hz...cough
I have 3 2721dgf and I just bought my son the m27q. You can’t go wrong with either. Both have been fantastic for work, pc and console gaming.
what display port or cable did you use?
@@bobburgers3880 I have the Dell also 27" using a 4k HDMI cable to my PS5 and my Mac, looks fantastic.
@@Oakcitymedia ty for helping me out xd
Thank you
After a bunch of research at RTINGS (thanks for all your work!), I got the M27Q a few weeks ago and have been very happy with it. The KVM switch* is super useful for switching between my gaming desktop and my work laptop, and it's both the first monitor I've had larger than 24" and higher than 1200p@60Hz resolution, so it's quite the upgrade! I'm thinking of adding the M32U for even more screen real estate in the future. *I haven't had one before, and it's revolutionary; prior to this I spent a year and a half in lockdown manually plugging and unplugging the cable on my old monitor between my PC and laptop.
a query !! Have you tried it in PS4 pro games, how many hzr does the game run at? with tv box how many hz of speed does it run, in videos connected to the USB how much does it run. It's my question, I'm waiting for an answer. Thank you.
@@jonathanreyesamado6587 I don't have a PS4, so I don't think I can answer your questions, sorry. I haven't tried running it faster than 60 Hz over USB since I'm only connecting my work laptop.
@@ArmanicYT No, no stuck or dead pixels. Haven't really had any issues with it so far.
M27Q has an external power brick. Power supply is built inside the Dell.
TL;DR 2721dgf : better stand, RGB pixel layout. m27q: KVM switch, better sRGB color profile preset, better HDR(better contrast/brightness), except BGR pixel layout which could affect text clarity. everything else almost identical.
I'm watching this via the M27Q, via Vesa mount. Great panel
There's lots of m27qs out there with dead pixels and not everyone will replace or guarantee no dead pixels, like in my case. BGR was noticable on chrome so I'd say if it isn't that big of a difference in price $80 for me, just go with dell. The monitor is also protected with dell premium panel guarantee.
100% this. Dell will legit replace your monitor if it has any dead or stuck pixels. That's not to say they don't have issues. I've had to send back three Dell monitors before to get a good one but they always let me do it. A lot of other places will set a limit on how many pixels they deem "acceptable" and often times it is six, nine or more dead or stuck pixels to be considered a defect. Dell isn't great for a lot of things but they do stand behind their monitors at least.
@@MrMoogle Got the dell, no issues and it had 2 more usb ports than m27
Haven't had any interaction with Gigabyte regarding monitors, but Dell, HP and Acer have all been very co-operative in replacing damaged or defective units. I'd imagine most large manufacturers have similar standards. As long as you contact the manufacturer directly--even if you didn't purchase the panel directly from the manufacturer--they'll usually resolve the issue. Retailers never fix the issues however, they usually have far too narrow of a return window and far too strict of a replacement policy. Manufacturers on the other hand, they'll replace a panel like 5 years down the long for mostly any issue, so long as you didn't intentionally break the panel.
@@MrMoogle What problems did your monitor have that made you return it 3 times ?
What type iof display ports did you use if you bought the Gigabyte M27Q to run it at 165 hertz to 170 hertz at 8 bit color? Any recoemndations ?
Watching this October 2022 after buying both which were recently on sale. I plan on using one for productivity and one for gaming.
We'd love to hear what you think of both once you get them!
Just bought myself a Gigabyte M27Q, what a beast man.
Having used both, I would say the gigabyte is the better choice of the two. But both are great monitors in their own right.
please tell me what gigabit is better. I think what to buy.
@@user-ep8fd1jw7g depends on ur budget, but I would personally get m32q
I have both also and the Dell is by far way better.
@@Kaiser187 hell nah, the colors on the Dell is worse
@@tengkurazin3289 I had them both calibrated and the Dell is superior.
The S2721DGF gives me eye strain unless I enable HDR in Windows 11.
Can you confirm that on the M27Q you get 144hz 10bit color over HDMI with no G-Sync but 120hz 10bit color with G-Sync over DisplayPort? Does the bit depth impact the color gamut/coverage? Thanks for the reviews and comparison!
Is what I want to know, on consoles like PS4 pro, how much Hz does it run?
@@jonathanreyesamado6587 PS5 does not even output to 1440p and is limited to 4k or 1080p, so can the PS4 pro even do 1440p??
had the dell but send it back cause heavy blb i am happy with the gigabybte now, overall better features too
what about the text?
Hey I can get the Dell for £15 cheaper then the gigabyte here in the UK but I'm wondering if that actually makes a difference as the results in bf1 (which I play alot) are so much greater on the gigabyte what do you think?
Where does this rank in comparison to the Benq 2700U?
I really don't understand, why Gigabyte didn't put on displayport 1.4 in his Monitors. Like really, why didn't they do it? The possibilities with 10 Bit and high refresh rate is there, but the connection just won't let you.
And they only have 10watts of charging on tbat USB C, a huge missed opportunity too!
it is only matters when you use HDR. but these monitors are crap for that mode. does not matter 8 or 10 bit.
They aren't true 10 bit. It's 8 bit + FRC. So not much difference compared to 8 bit.
@@portman8909 8bit FRC isn't bad at all unless you can notice the difference in flickering.
Got the Dell arriving tomorrow. Ready to be blown away.
how is it

What are the best picture settings for the M27Q?
Hey Joe, Thanks for reaching out. We list some of the picture settings we used for our unit in the "post-calibration" section of the review, so it may be worth checking out. www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/gigabyte/m27q However, it's important to mention that things like picture settings are heavily influenced by personal preferences. I may consider something to be the "best" picture settings, but someone else may prefer something entirely different. So, it might actually be worth spending time playing with the settings yourself until you achieve something you enjoy!
Is there a noticeable difference in the response time? I know you said the Rev 1 was faster, but is it even noticeable?

Additionally, the ComfortView feature reduces harmful blue light emissions, significantly reducing digital eye strain."
