Jurassic Park-Like Jeep Ride w/ NO Track! Drive Yourself Attraction | PANGEA at Movieland

[4K] "Expedition Pangea the World of Dinosaurs" is one of the coolest rides at Movieland Italy. Here you can actually drive your own jeep through forest to see dinosaurs like in Jurassic Park! No track or anything. You drive in rugged terrain and up steep hills too. Can't think of any attraction at any theme park in the world that let you drive a car with no track. Autopia at Disneyland for example uses track.
"An adventurous journey on board specially made jeeps will transport you into a forest populated by realistic animated reproductions of the most famous dinosaurs, which will come to life before your eyes. The jeeps have the unique characteristic of being able to be driven independently thanks to a radar positioning system" - www.canevaworld.it/en/pangea....

  • Everyone criticising the animatronics' quality please be aware that Movieland is a small family owned theme park and should not under any circumstances be held to the same standard as Disney or Universal. Not yet anyways.

    • The creativity and uniqueness absolutely elevates it beyond something you'd experience at one of the other major parks. Knott's Berry Farm, whilst now owned by Cedar Fair that has injected its own flair into the park, still has a lot of that family home-grown feel you'd be hard pressed to find elsewhere. The stagecoach is fun, Ghost Town Alive is an absolutely unique seasonal event, and the Calico Mine Ride and Timber Mountain Log Ride are absolute classics. I honestly love the vibes that family home-grown parks can have.

    • IMO the creativity is in those ride vehicles and the system that makes you believe that you are driving. Although I could do without the lawnmower sound like it's a go-kart at Disneyland, but definitely was cool as a concept.

You can make it so the ride is driving itself, taking your inputs but ignoring them if you go outside of a set of boundaries; that's basically how "fly by wire" flight controls on an aircraft works. The reason why you won't see this in many places is: 1. It takes up a lot of room. 2. It would require a lot more work on the part of the ride designer to give a consistently good experience (every time you hit an invisible wall or the ride takes over for you would snap you out of any immersion you had) 3. the number of riders it can accommodate per hour is too low

  • I mean, for such a small park, this is an EXTREMELY ambitious design. It's a little rough around the edges, but it obviously wasn't built on a billionaire budget, which is absolutely understandable. They did a huge amount with a small budget, and I respect that deeply. The fact that they didn't use a guide track is... Well, I'm glad THEY have faith in the average theme park guest not to immediately start trying to use the vehicles as bumper cars... but the end result speaks for itself.

Where you could drive gasoline powered jeeps around a "off road" course. There was no theming, but still very neat to drive a jeep on a non- fixed track course. So it would allow for turns (when allowed) to skip a part or take a more adventurous route. It's good these types of rides still exist! They are a lot of fun!

Fortunately in that day, here all the effects was on, but I can see why, on that same day, the effects on the boat ride was off: the weather wasn't great. Anyway yes, Movieland is an underrated park, for most enthusiast theme park clients, expecially USA ones. For us Italians is the best park ( in Italy ) because the theming is really good, with rare and unique rides, owned by a family, it's a hidden gem. It's small, but it's a near full day park. It's without a doubt better than Gardaland. I tried to get Coaster Studios to come, but with no avail ( they are in UK now ).

It's their biggest investment so, I suggest LMG ( I know his channel ), to wait, if he have plan to visit this year, because from 2024, it will be better, if he want to ride their new ride. 2) Movieland is a family owner park, and a lot of his rides are built in-house, as Pangea and Kitt superjet ( did you see the video from this channel yet? ). Pangea on Attraction 360°'s day recording was perfect, with all the effects on, while Kitt, the special effects during the ride were off, due to the weather ( LMG Vids, surely saw that Pov, and so I meant it to him ). 3) LMG is a USA channel, so like them, a lot of USA don't know about the existence of this park, before. They know Gardaland but no Movieland which is a better and a lot better maintain park than Gardaland, which is litterally only a 2-3 miles of distance away. I hope this park will be better known, because being family owned and on unique and/or rare attractions, he really deserves it. Other channels like Coaster Studios, still haven't visited it, because they are currently underestimating it.

  • This is absolutely insane, I could see there being a deposit and waiver if this was at another park. it's a little rough with the music and how you see the windows media player logo when it switches videos. Also a lot of the dinos aren't functional. but it's so cool that you get to navigate on your own. Appears the vehicle at least has bumper sensors, perhaps a crash avoidance system. it would be interesting to know how they handle vehicles that get get stuck or of course

  • There may not be a track, but there has to be some kind of limit to the driver's control. You can see the driver in the video oversteering a bit and the vehicle never leaves the path. Also, I hope these cars don't ever break down in the middle of the ride. Can you imagine stepping out into several inches of water and then trying to walk up the next incline to find an exit? There's a reason why Disneyland has well-developed ride evacuation procedures. Rides always break down - eventually.

  • I have experienced this attraction many times because I live near the park. I can assure you that there are no rails, underground tracks or "esoteric systems" to steer the jeep. The steering wheel has a lot of gearing, meaning you have to turn the steering wheel a lot to make the tires steer a little. This gives the impression that the steering wheel is not connected to the wheels. You only have one pedal to throttle. If you release the pedal the jeep brakes. The engine's RPM is controlled by an RPM controller similar to a lawn mower's RPM controller, when the slope of the terrain increases the engine drops in RPM and the controller gives more throttle. Hidden in the four corners of the jeep are lidar-type radar sensors. If you get close to the edges of the track, the jeep slows down. If you are too close to the edge the jeep automatically brakes. To unlock the jeep you have to countersteer and reverse until you are far enough from the edges (the jeep automatically engages reverse). I hope I have been helpful

Heck, I'd rather go to a Paramount theme park if it had TMNT and Transformers attractions than to waste my time on Universal studios since I'm starting to like Paramount's movies over Universal's now because of how stupid Universal fanbases like DreamWorks and Oppenheimer are.

  • Imagine if Universal tore down the traditional water ride for Jurassic Park / Jurassic World and made it into a legit jeep park tour where, obviously, something goes wrong and you have to outrun a t-Rex or indominous Rex. In Beijing they already have an animatronic on a track that chases you. Imagine blending that with this.

  • That reminds me... Universal's Islands of Adventure was, in fact, going to have a Jurassic Park themed ride called Jeep Safari, but it was cancelled, unfortunately. If they had gone along with it, it would've been built in the spot where Skull Island: Reign of Kong had been built instead. Seeing this also reminds me of the automated self-driving car and animatronic dinosaurs that were seen in the Netflix interactive special "Hidden Adventure" of Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous.

  • The dinosaurs need more motion, which is difficult considering the outdoor setting and limited budget. I would submit for consideration: 1. A few pteranadons fly over the road, suspended from camouflaged rails. Ahead of the jeeps, in the middle distance, would enforce the illusion. Loud screeches would draw the drivers attention before the fly-over. 2. Larger dinosaurs could move on ground rails, their lower bodies hidden by carefully placed rocks and vegetation. 3. What is imagined can be very scary and relatively cheap. Rustling bushes and dinosaur sounds with a glimpse of moving head or tail would be very effective. 4. Drive through a dark cave with the sound of scurrying and tiny glowing red eyes blinking in the dark, along with am overhead roar and a blast of foul breath. 5. Utahraptor suits worn by employees in waist high vegetation to hide human legs stalking the jeep on both sides of the road. Just a few things I'd like to see on such a ride. A little more practical than expensive animatronics.

Someone would drive off the road and hit an animatronic. I guess I just don't trust others to behave like normal sane people.
