Blow Off Valve Sounds Galore - Turbo Toyota POV - Project Underdog MR2 Mk1 first spirited drive

Engine is still not nearly broken in and I'm still somewhat afraid the car will fall apart or catch fire. Never did the alignment either but turns out there's no need, goes straight and feels good in the corners. I guess eyeballing it worked for now :)
I'm more comfortable with the power now, the drama effect wore off somewhat. I'm estimating that with the 0.5 bar (7-8 psi) it shouldn't make more than 160-170hp (although it somehow feels more than that when the road opens up and there's space to push it). Whatever it is this power level seems to suit it ideally I think, really controllable and confidence inspiring but still packs a very nice punch. The Quaife ATB torsen limited slip differential is worth its weight in gold, a massive transformation in cornering capacity and feel.
A special thank you to my patrons:

  • Thank you for posting this. Just raw driving footage, no music, or dumb cuts, or stupid 360cams and racing game camera angle view points, just raw high quality video and audio. We need more of this on KZhead.

    @zzyzx0069@zzyzx00699 ай бұрын
    • Hey!!! 360 cams can make for beautifully cinematic shots! On my motorcycle, I love having it because i can have it follow the horizon and you( and I ) get to better realize the lean angle on some of the turns! :D its so much fun!

      @tylerwright6006@tylerwright60069 ай бұрын
    • Yeah on motorbikes it's is very cool. For cars a prefer the POV view where you can see the steering wheel. Really makes you feel like you are driving. I wish more people would stick to that than the 360 cams and chase camera angles ect.

      @chromaticwolf7433@chromaticwolf74339 ай бұрын
    • @@chromaticwolf7433 finally someone who gets it. It works on a motorcycle because you don't have to fisheye the field of view to see the whole vehicle. On a car it just makes it look weird because one is forced to use a massive FoV. I mean I wouldn't prefer it on a motorcycle either, I'd rather have a chin cam that a chase cam because I like to see where the rider looks also.

    • @@zzyzx0069 lol, I’m just constantly scanning the roads. You might get motion sickness watching through the chin cam (I also don’t have a chin cam ;0 gotta save up for it haha). But like all the pretty sights, I don’t get a chance to look at them cuz I’m too focused on the roads :(

  • Now that sounds sweet! 🤩 This brings back nice memories when a Friend of mine bought a Toyota Supra Mk III for a ridiculously cheap price as the poor thing, having become unpopular by the early 2000s, was in disrepair and misery. First there was a lot of work put into reanimation, then he power increase started. I will never forget the face of the BMW 6er series driver as the Supra just flew away from his modern sports BMW as he was going full acceleration. 🤗 The blow-off hiss is loooovely!

  • Turbo sounds are always welcome. You can make them even cooler by having a proper dose pipe on your compressor intake, and by installing a flow control valve in between the BOV and controller/vacuum line to slightly delay the opening, that way you get a tiny bit of flutter AND the pshew sound. If you want, I can post links to vids of both items/examples of testing and tuning them.

Its an arizona car thats garage kept w 127k mi. All the body and mechanicals are clean so its a great cantidate for it. Thanks so much for your efforts. Its inspiring and empowering.

  • Great to see the new setup is finally running really nicely, It must be fun! Ignore any clamour for winding on more power, As you've already pointed out, power is for top speed (and bragging), torque is for acceleration and FUN! I've never found the MK1 to be about top speed, but more about nippy, zippy fun-ness and scalpel-sharp overtakes (back in the day!). The power may only be 25% up on stock, but I guess torque will have jumped by even more and arrive much lower down the revs. With its low weight, low drag, small frontal area and an extra sling-full of easily accessible torque, I reckon you'll have all the engine you want or need with barely 10 BHP more. I'd more concentrate on checking and tweaking the alignment for evenness (for tyre wear and for the record), steering feel and communicativeness. Enjoy it anyway! And all best and thanks! 👍👍👍
