Eric Bana on Chopper, Troy & the Australian Film Industry: The Straight Talk Podcast | Mark Bouris
An Australian film getting a sequel is a rare sight, but The Dry was such a good mystery-thriller that it demands a follow-up titled The Force of Nature.
In an exclusive long-form interview, world-class Australian actor Eric Bana joins Mark Bouris to discuss the making of The Dry 2, directed by Robert Connolly and Eric's business partner.
Bana talks about what it took to make the sequel, the importance of keeping the Australian filmmaking industry alive, and what makes him a successful international actor.
The Force Of Nature: The Dry 2 is out now in theatres

Eric bana is an Aussie icon. Absolutely brilliant actor
Absolutely

"Forget the rags boys,........get the fkn cash"??!!
Epic scene ! So Aussie 😂
after investing with mark bouris haha
"Look" your mums upset"
hospital driver!
Poita was his best role 😂😂😂
hahahahaha soon as Mark said Collingwood , the reaction from Eric was pure gold! you can feel how much this man is a diehard St Kilda fan! LOL
Hot Pies. Mark harden up be staunch Black and white always. Great interview by the way.
Mark Read said the problem with Eric Bana is that Eric does a better Chopper Read than I do.
Eric Bana used to be a legit standup comedian before he became an actor. I saw him do a show in Brisbane, either 1997 or 1998 and not only was he hilarious he might have been the funniest dude I have ever seen live. He was top notch.
Remember being in year six and everyone saying “Poida” 😂
He was definitely one of the better guys on Full Frontal. He did a great Ray Martin 😂 His talk show was kinda mid, but I reckon that’s just producers not giving him space.
he did a great ray martin too
@SirHumphrey498 yes with the tooth gap and all
I met CHOPPER several times. He used to visit the neighbor across hall. Had a geriatric cat and Chopper told me that feeding old cats mice was great for them. Went to pet shop, got some dead mice, gave it to cat, cat went nuts and put a spring in its step. Chopper had a sweet spot for cats.
He was definitely a sociopath but he had a heart. Adored his woman
He was such a lovely kind hearted bloke
Also toes…..he likes the way they just, pop off
Cats like mice…..who knew
Hahahahaha
Erica Bana is one of my favourite actors. I always checkout what films he is in because I know he will give a measured, considered performance and does not choose "bubblegum" projects. His films always seem to have a spine to them and a narrative that weaves throughout the storyline.
Always been a big fan of Bana. His performance as Hector in Troy is amazing.
Eric Banas an Aussie legend. Seems like a down to earth bloke who loves his country, and hes a car nut to boot.
Great interview. Genuine bloke, great actor.
Shame this fuckin 'I know nuthin..then "Read a lot of reveiws"?A complete Lacki..For Eric .Surely You cant.be like here nilZilchand..!"Actually thanks for.The States.Where Eric Would be more than free..to not hv to go thru this tirade of "Im a dumby."..U.r but That onky works..If your a ditzy clunky Young en'..Christ he takes 'Cake' 4'Snake in the Room.😮
I have been watching Eric Banna since he was in The Castle. He has been and endless source of brilliant entertainment. The Dry is a brilliant movie and I am very much looking forward to watching The Dry 2
Sounds like you've missed what put him on the path of The Castle. Poida! Sweet! And then there's Eddie....it's a complete shemozzle! Fast Forward Presents Full Frontal. Unmissable TV in the 90's 👍
@@yeahnah7220 No I didn't miss Poida!, I had just gotten my memories confused and thought that Full Frontal came after The Castle. I didn't watch Eric the Movie, but I did watch Eric the TV series. I haven't seen all of his movies, but I have seen most of them. However I wish I had seen the TV series "Something in the Air", but that stage of my life I had stopped watching free to air TV, so I didn't know it even existed until recently.
My favourite line from Chopper was. Jimmy Loughnan was watching a bull ant crawl across the table, and I was watching Jimmy watching the bull ant.
That old chestnut 😂
I’m sorry I don’t buy that mate
Nice shirt Mark, do they make em for men?
South African living in NZ here, loads of Aussie mates. Eric is a phenomenal actor. To me, The Dry, is the Aussie film. Watched a lot of SA films and NZ films, the Aussie film industry is head and shoulders above both. Having experienced real drought, I thought The Dry nailed it. The land itself becomes a character. We have small towns in South Africa that are virtually a carbon copy of the town in The Dry, this film spoke to me on so many levels. So many great Aussie films, Mad Max, Gallipoli, Breaker Morant, Chopper, etc... Really happy to see a film like this succeed internationally. Can't wait to see the new one. Also loved the interview, much appreciated!
Ur not really south African anymore - you live here now, ur one of us - a kiwi 👋😊
Once were warriors. Best film fomrom nz
Two Hands is another great one
Ivan Sen is a great director, editor, script writer. Made some great Aussie films that show the amazing aussie landscape Unfortunately never recieved the recognition.
@@MrsGump No, I'm South African, I might live in NZ, but I am South African.
Love Eric Bana. For me it was Time Travellers Wife and BlackHawk Down (Hoot).
Well done Mark for bringing Eric Bana. Magnificent Podcast and Guest. Legend. 🙌🤠💛💚🇦🇺
When ever Eric is in a film or series, I always say "gotta see it", It'll be half decent film to watch!. But then I find myself rewatching that movie several times because off Eric. Bloody awesome actor. Thanks so much mate.
a great discussion ... Eric Bana is a leading light in Australian film making ....
Great interview. Eric is in the league of Robert Downey jr, a genius actor. When he portraid Chopper, Chopper was a person we were all intimately familiar with, and Eric himself was also the biggest thing on Australian television in a sketch comedy role. We forgot all that and saw and believed Chopper was on the screen. Truly amazing actor, and he seems to be a top bloke to boot
Fantastic guy and very down to Earth. Loved him in Chopper, of course, but you can't look past his role in Munich. He's so underrated and deserves more accolades. What an Icon.
Black Hawk Down as well - shame the interview didn't discuss either film.
You are a legend Eric Bana loved The Dry seeing the amazing Aussie Landscape made me so proud of How great our country is, thanks for creating great Aussie movies , giving a positive outlook on Aussies , so much hatred & negativity pushed these days , i felt inspired listening to this podcast , if only others created positivity instead of hate , our country could have unity
Brilliant, had to pause this interview just to go watch The Dry. Loved it... Really thought the girl did it too haha. So hyped for the Aussie film industry. Thanks Mark and Eric.
Yeah The Dry was a little gem of a movie, man. Especially in the torrent of absolute shit coming out in the woke era, a film that was well written, cast, acted and shot is a minor miracle.😁
@@DrCheeks 100% looking forward to taking the Mrs to see the new one at the cinemas!
Cant watch Eric without seeing do Tony Barber send up
Much
This is great, but the most important question was misses, did Eric fix the XB falcon yet ?
I find Eric Bana very engaging as an actor in whatever role he's in & have watched all his films (some several times). What a cool guy & being an Antipodean I do appreciate actors who retain their accent, self deprecating & down-to-earth personality/foundation when they have reached the top tier in acting. Looking forward to all future 'Bana' endeavours!
After the question was asked about favourite Australian movie, I thought of Mad Max as well 💪🇦🇺 That hit me hard as a kid, and Gallipoli even more so, in a different way.
Adore Eric. Love him. Go Saints! ❤
loved watching and listening to this, Eric is a Aussie legend and all round great bloke
What a great refreshing honest interview. Well done
Not only a great interview of my most favourite Aussie actor, it the first of your pods I have watched, and I not only enjoyed the interview, I also very much enjoyed getting to know Mark Bouris. I have always presumed that you were down to earth but this interview really showed that you are an honest and real Aussie. Loved it mate, will watch many more.
great chat ! Love Eric, loved The Dry, i might have to pop out to the cinema this weekend to catch the force of nature,,, I hadn't even heard about it until now...
"Now look what you done,...........your Mums upset"???.!!!

He couldn't knock off the fluff on a cappuccino
Terrific interview Mark! Eric is a bloody ripper, down to earth Aussie. Loved his work from the early days, & The Dry was brilliant!👏🏼👍🏼 Oh & love The Beast Eric!😎🤤
Great interview. Love his acting and performances. He is one of those great actors who has tremendous range, variety and flexibility; comedy, drama and any combination, he can do. I also loved the questions about leadership and ethics.
Great interview. I met chopper several times too and went to his stand up show when he was travelling and got drunk with him after the show. And Eric and his family had a milk bar or little shop down the road from our house many years ago great memories cheers
Chopper was the perfect role model for teenage boys Im sure many followed in his footsteps, an all round beautiful person, if you like psychopaths that is
@@user-jb4ei8hi7n chopper must have hurt you in the past 😂😂😂😂 sucker 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@user-jb4ei8hi7n great role model for teenage boys ? kill people and go to jail.... wtf ?
Eric bana, what can you say except... Legend!!! his short part in the guy ritchie film "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" was EPIC!
Eric is such a nice genuine person. Great questions. Mark may of found a new talent. Never liked the apprentice stuff biso. This is more intelligent and connecting to everyone. Keep it up!
Amazing, amazing interview. 🙌
He should have won an Oscar for Chopper
Just two down to earth guys having a chat - love it ❤
the nugget was so fucking good. cheers
So good!!
Wonderful interview from to greats. Loved both Dry films ❤
Love love love Eric - what a legend
Fantastic at his trade…thoroughly enjoy his films, one of the very best actors in the industry and seems top bloke as well.
Legend Aussie, I’ve loved all Eric’s roles and the way he has portrayed them
We wanna see The Beast XB Hardtop at the Hardtop Anniversary in Tassies next September.
I'll watch anything with him in it, he's a fantastic actor & you can guarantee anything he's in will be good. I heard there's a 2nd part to The Dry coming out - stoked!!
It is already out 'Force Of Nature: The Dry 2' :)
@@traceyanne73 sweet! Thanks for that I'll go find it now & watch, perfect for a Sunday night movie!! 🙂
Bana, I LOVE how you think 'outside the box'! You're rocking your shit. Please continue rocking it! You're on point, 11/10! 👌💯👍💞👌
The Dry was awesome, so glad we’re getting a sequel
You have to do one with Richard Roxburgh. I've loved the guy ever since his masterful portrayal of Roger Rogerson in Blue Murder (seriously, watch that and copy to see how good filmmaking should be done, It literally made you FEEL like you were back in the 80's) I am actgually thinking of getting Stan just for Prosper right now.. There's another one for one, Michael Jenkins,, Also Wildside and Janus were another 2 miniseries that really affected me during that time of life.
Just seen him in the Dry 2. It was awesome 🎉
Las Vegas games are part of round one. For points. Love the podcast, Mark!
Great Interview. : )
Love your Poddy Mark...
He was awesome as Hector
Eric Bana is a cool ass dude. Big fan. Can’t say the same for the interviewer! He needs to see a speech pathologist 😂
The Other Boleyn Girl and The Dry 1, what a treasure he is....like our 🐨
Chopper was my hero, i hope my boys grow up to be like him
LOVE THE BANA!!💥💪👊
I agree with him in the way he said you have to believe it and show it Because I was in a band but we couldn’t get that across live Because we where acting and not playing it how it should of been Cheers
Eric Bana was great on Full Frontal
Munich and chopper! That’s it. Thanks mark you’re killing it on KZhead 😂
I remember meeting chopper when I was a kid in the neighbourhood couldn’t be a nicer guy
Just watched ‘Force of Nature’. Great movie, highly recommended.
If Eric reads these comments, I watch Matthew Marsdens youtube channel, and he mentioned what a great person/actor you are when working with you in BHD, he watched Chopper and was blown away 👌😃. Can't wait for the next The Dry instalment 👏👏
Good bloke.Down to earth.
As much as I admire Eric, he suffers , like some of us , of Stkildaitus ie the sadness of following the StKilda Football Club...
My dad used to work with Eric’s dad at Tullamarine CAT, mostly before the extension. Dads role was planned engineering and said Ivan was a nice guy, but you wouldn’t want to cross him! Wonder if that helped Eric to prepare for the role of chopper? That was during the height of Eric’s Aussie fame in full frontal. Funny how it’s such a small world sometimes.
Love Eric Bana
Let gooooo!!
So good 💪
1:01:38 absolutely priceless moment.! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 🤣😂🤣 pure gold.! 👍🏻👍🏻 😂🤣😂 ✌🏻🇦🇺🌏🤘🏻
Eric could play the role of Michael Franzese without needing to audition, 💯 % Bring that movie/series on!
Without Eric doing Chopper i prob wouldn't have watched it he is an AMAZING actor.
Tell him his dreamin
onya Poida!
Was one of the biggest actors in Hollywood at one stage. His career has gone down a bit which is surprising
Terrific actor!

Holy fuckin snapping duck shit ! What a trip ! I'd like to see them diffs built. When ever I go past a KFC I taught my son to salute the Colonel. Shake and Bake !
Chopper told my mate (rest both their soulds) how to kill someone with a wire coat hanger and a pen. He did it to me once as a prank. I dead set shat myself and started crying. Was only young and ya never know with these peeps.
Eric is my favorite Australian actor, sorry uncle.
