Catastrophic Thinking: How it’s Running My Life
In this video, I share my personal journey with catastrophic thinking and how it has been impacting my life. Catastrophic thinking, also known as worst-case scenario thinking, can create unnecessary stress and anxiety, affecting our mental health and overall quality of life. Through my experiences, I'll discuss how this mindset has controlled my thoughts, decisions, and actions, often leading to self-sabotage and negative outcomes.
I'll also talk about the strategies and techniques I've been using to manage and overcome catastrophic thinking, including cognitive restructuring, mindfulness, and seeking professional help. By sharing my story, I hope to provide insight and support for others facing similar challenges.
If you've ever felt trapped in a cycle of negative thoughts and fear, I encourage you to watch this video and join me on the journey to break free from catastrophic thinking. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more content on mental health and personal growth!"
Thank you for stopping by❤️😎

  • Gina, as we get older we become less active and physical aspects of our bodies don’t allow us to be what we use to be. Then we’re more cautious which goes along with it. You’re actually being wise because you know what could go wrong and you’re asking yourself,”Could I handle it?”. In my younger years I was pretty confident I could handle anything in life without much thought I just did stuff. Once I developed a condition that saps my energy after a half a day, I know it’s time to rest and chill. I never use to rest. Now I allow myself to be ok with resting and not taking it beyond my limits. It wise and smart. So live within your limits and don’t beat yourself up for bad thinking. You know to take care of your heart and enjoy what you are able. Take a drive with your daughter/soninlaw/friend. Not alone and you’ll enjoy the support just in case something goes wrong. The kitties are a great responsibility and they are your children. They need you to be careful. They have the best life with you. You’re doing great, enjoying life and coffee can make anything better ☕️. Honestly there isn’t anything wrong with your thinking Gina. From my perspective looking in (thank you for sharing), you ARE doing what you can and being wise about what you couldn’t handle. I believe guilt gets the best of you sometimes. I do the same. Call on God to give you peace. He’s there for you 24/7. ❤. Patty

  • I had a good friend who was the same way. I use to tell her all the time sitting in the house is not healthy. You use to ride your bike and I don't see you doing that as much. If your gonna die I would rather die doing something instead of sitting in the house waiting to die. If your truck breaks down you have your house with you and it will be a change of scenery. Thanks for sharing it takes a lot to be able to do that...

I have found it necessary to think of worst case possibilities to see if I will be able to deal with that outcome with my daughter or not. • My heart issues started years ago with afib and then about a year ago I went down with very similar issues as you. I too was a risk taker and fearless before the health issues. And now I fight the same catastrophic thinking. As I write this I have; after a year of sitting have fought to finally get out and camp! We are only an hour and a half from our rv lot, but still I fight the bad thoughts! A tire looks low, and my back hurts, what if it gets worse? It’s a struggle even when you recognize and know what the struggle in your mind is. Trying to focus on the beautiful nature and be grateful but it’s still a battle. Thanks for your honesty in putting out this video, we as creators tend to just show the happy times. We love ya Gina ❤ ttyl ✌️

I've started by getting her out to things she can't bring to the house...shopping at Hot Topic in the mall, taking her and her friends to a movie, sleepovers at friends houses... she's getting better at leaving the house but there are days where it's two steps forward, one step back (but there is still that step forward gained). • This was a good video. I have fear of going on a road trip, I have medical issues and the weather puts me off like the fires. The price of fuel here in BC is really bad and to budget is hard on top of just basic survival these days. It’s to recognize when you are hitting that wall or the bottom of the bucket. It’s hard some days but there IS a light that shines bright and will let me go to the mountains and see all the stars that shine where there are no city lights. I have wanted to see them for years. Getting up there in age too, my van and myself so I gotta start thinking differently too. Never give up on your dreams, do it for you, is a saying I have engraved on a necklace. We will get there Gina, we will. ❤ Thank you for sharing. It is good to know we are not alone.

  • Anxiety is a hard thing to cope with, and it is about finding ways through it. I sometimes run the worse case scenario in my head for things to actually push myself forward. I say what is the worst that will happen, and I say, well, if that happens is there a solution or is it as bad as I think. But it is a difficult thing sometimes.

  • It's not silly to feel the way you feel. For the most part, I'm able to concentrate on the pay off that comes after crossing the bridge of anxiety. For me, the anxiety seeps in for some of the same reasons you mentioned: what if something on my van breaks? Will I be able to afford a tow if I break down in a desolate area? Etc. And, all of that has actually happened in my travels. But somehow it always worked out and having experienced those things, that anxiety is much less intense now.

I was just speechless by the end of the video- wondering how in the world did you just describe my situation. I don't want to look like an idiot in the comments listing all the parallels. But just thank you so much for having the guts to turn on the camera and share- because you have no idea how grateful I am right now. I'm hoping maybe this helps you a little in return.

  • HI Gina, Yeah, Stinkin' Thinkin' is what I call catastrophic thinking. Our minds can sure imagine the worst case scenarios at times. I too have lost a lot of the "no fear" attitude of my youth....and it's been easy to slip on that downward slope into a rabbit hole at times. Take solid steps towards improved self care, have a plan for emergencies (since they do happen sometimes), and try to reverse some of those catastrophic thoughts by weighing the realistic odds, and imagining some of the better/happier outcomes instead. Take small steps towards the bigger changes - both in your thinking and your activities.....have that plan for emergencies and you will feel ready to get out there to see and do more, while taking those well-calculated risks. For me, nature and exercise are crucial for my mental health....and I believe they are very important to you too. Back to the gym! Eat well, prioritize sleep, reduce stress, enjoy the outdoors, and take time to enjoy the little things! Lean on your support systems, and redirect those negative thought patterns. (Got kind wordy, but it's the therapist in me!) Hugs!

  • There are a few different disorders that can lead to worst case scenario thinking. Certain anxiety disorders and depression are just a couple. It's not uncommon for people to have this type of negative thinking. I wonder if some of it could be from being idle. I feel like listening to you that you may need to busy yourself. Maybe staying inside in this dreary weather is a contributing factor. Maybe try to force yourself to get back to the ymca. Get out. Do something. Heck, go dancing in the rain. Better than being stuck inside. How about starting a garden? If you can't do in ground, do a container garden. Do some drawing or painting or something. Get out that guitar and write some songs! Keep your brain actively focused on something you enjoy. I know how it is to have the scenario thinking issue. It's frustrating because it can keep you from doing something you truly want to do. Course then I have the whole introvert thing and that just helps so much 😆 Love ya, lady. Hang in there! We're here for you!!

What if I get out there and something goes wrong and all I e done is rebuild the inside and repainted the outside but the engine isn't good? Or the brakes are bad? Or a tire blows. So I'm trying to fix everything and it's keeping us from getting out there soon. Idk. I just need to make myself just do it. I hope yours gets better. It can be crippling in fear of the worst. • Gina your site popped up on my feed about a month ago. Your 4 cats are adorable. I have 4 also that I couldn't imagine in a van. They're so rambunctious. I don't know what your faith is but would you mind me praying for you? What specifically would you want me to pray for? God bless you sweet girl ❤
