    • Oho !! We know better than argue about how big his contributions has been to the club. He literally brought out the best from the squad he was given. Nobody expected him to do this well. Changing the entire midfield in one season. And Klopp would knowingly accept that he has not won it all, but we have seen that man try. He made giants out of the kids. If you still want to derive pleasure in derision, go ahead. I say, let’s see what we have than what we don’t. If only it were possible, I would have him manage the Reds for another decade. He is that good.

  • Arne Slot is a really good coach. LFC is not crazy. LFC is taking a big gamble to preserve the legacy of Klopp. LFC is managing the risk by splitting the manager job from the head coach job. As a communicator, as a football visionary and as a personal improvement coach Slot is outstanding. He has an open and continuous learning mindset watching and analyzing the offensive and defensive play of all the great performing teams across Europe. A very Undutch trait of his is his ability to connect and improve each player individually, bridging the cultural gaps (over 15 different nationalities) and simultaneously preparing the group for his style of attacking football demanding everyone to perform 110% of their capabilities for themselves and for the team. Feyenoord had a very toxic, internal environment set for bankruptcy. Slot was able to turn it around straight from the start only having a transfer budget of € 6.5 million. In his first season he reached the conference league final, became 3rd in the competition (was: 8) and Feyenoord could sell for a record transfer window of more than 10-fold that value due to the sale of more than 7 players. Today's Feyenoord is back on top. This season they have gained more points than last season when they won the Dutch league. PSV has won 27 of 31 matches and is having a record-breaking season by copying the style of play of Arne Slot. Slot is all about winning by playing crazy attacking football with very solid defenses. Hence, he is very different from Erik ten Hag or other Dutch coaches who are willing to take more defensive risks.

  • Arne Slot and the unfair comparisons - why fans should be more optimistic Hi there, As a Dutchy, I would like to share some insight into the current Manager situation at Liverpool. I've read a lot of comments, negatively comparing Arne Slot to Ten Hag "who performed better" and talking about PSV coach Bosz "beating Slot this season" while he "even failed at Dortmund". It is a slightly long story, but I hope it will get you as excited about Slot as I think you should be. Because, although I agree there is an element of risk, I also give him a fairly good chance to be as or even more successful than Klopp has been. For what he has accomplished at my club is something I had accepted I might never see happen again. I want to start by quickly mentioning the comment about Bosz and his failing in Dortmund. Back then, he used to be known as a Kamikaze coach in our country, playing way too attacking and forgetting to invest in his defense. His teams always started great and burned up too quickly. He seems to have needed the international experiences to learn and brought more balance to his teams now at the later stage of his career which I applaud him for. Slot on the other hand has always managed to combine attractive attacking football with extraordinary results from the get-go. He plays high press, attacking football, but ensures to monitor the strain on the players excessively to make sure they don't burn out before the end of the season. They also have the lowest xG against rate in the division which is impressive for such an attacking squad. So I feel he is already way more suited for a move like this than Bosz was back in the day and shows higher potential. To truly explain Slot's impact these last three years, I have to give you some background into Feyenoord. I have been a Feyenoord fan for about 15-20 years now and a sentiment has grown among fans that "being a Feyenoord supporter isn't something you do for fun". Meaning you wouldn't choose to be if you weren't passionate about the club and it entails a bit of suffering. Even after we managed to climb out from rock bottom after the season 2010/2011 (finishing 10th, needing investors to save the club financially, losing 10-0 vs PSV), the club still lacked a vision or potential to get you excited. You'd go into most seasons more or less wondering whether we'd end up 3th, 4th or 5th place and would know that the style of play wouldn't be particularly exciting. Not to mention dreading the matches vs Ajax and PSV, being afraid to get absolutely demolished. There were some exceptions perhaps, seasons where we ended 2nd place and even 1st place once, but this was more due to the competitors lacking. The club struggled financially for so long. Players never sold well and we barely had 5-8 million per summer to spend, so getting good talents in was hard. The sale of Dirk Kuyt to Liverpool for 18 million in the 06/07 season was our record transfer fee until two summers ago. It felt like this never-ending cycle we couldn't get out of. In the same period, Ajax was rising and building up the finances to transfer budgets hitherto unseen in the Netherlands. When Slot came in, our squad was far from exciting and our only exceptional player had just traded us for our rival club Ajax. You can imagine that must have hurt. He was the only one who scored and created. The transfer window didn't do much to restore confidence, as we bought only two experienced players: an ex-Eredivisie player who failed in the PL for 1 mill, and this unknown 29-year-old Austrian Center-back from the Austrian league for 1,5 mill. The rest were 3 Scandinavian talents for 0.75, 2 and 3 mill respectively and some unimpressive loans from the looks of it. That was our starting point. Now, 3 years later, things couldn't be different. There's this enormous positivity around the club and being a Feyenoord fan IS something you do for fun again. We play enjoyable football, WITH results. Players have developed at an incredible rate and we could finally sell some at a decent price. And although most of this money went into paying off debts, instead of spending large on new players, the team kept improving. It was only thanks to achieving the Champions League funds, that Feyenoord was able to spend "big" this summer: which means buying four players each worth around 7 mill. In a time where Ajax spent more than 100 mill in a summer and also PSV decided to properly invest (>60 mill), it is almost laughable. So, purely looking at Slot's achievements from a distance, I understand people's doubts about whether it's enough for a top premier league side, with "only" a conference league 2nd place, a truly deserved league title and a national cup under his belt (though I think going head-to-head with Ten Hags Ajax with a smaller clubs like AZ is an underrated one people leave out cause of Covid ending the season early). But if you look further at what he did and what he has meant for Feyenoord, it is incredibly impressive. And if I could choose between the top three players of the team leaving this summer, or Slot, I'd personally drive our players to the airport tonight. I hope the deal goes through for him cause he deserves it, but I frankly believe he is worth more than 50 mil for the club. He is the core reason our players now sell for 25 mill a piece instead of 5. So yes. PSV is winning the title, but not because Feyenoord performed weaker. PSV had an insane run with about 17 wins in a row and only 1 loss so far. They invested a lot of money this summer, buying multiple good players with not only starting eleven quality but also boosting the general level. They could even spend 11 million on a substitute striker, while Feyenoord's highest incoming transfer ever is currently 8,3 million and 75% of the time we buy a new player it is someone with potential who needs time to develop. Bosz is a good coach, nonetheless, and played a big part in this, I agree with that. Ajax this season has shown that money alone isn't everything. And yes, Ten Hag is not doing well at United this season, and he technically achieved "more" at Ajax than Slot at Feyenoord. But that is very relative. He was granted one of the best Ajax sides in the last decades when he started there. They had just abolished the salary cap aiming to bring 2-3 experienced players in they never could have afforded before. This happened alongside the emergence of players like Frenkie de Jong, Hakim Ziyech, Matthijs de Ligt, Onana and Mazzraoui. I don't mean to say Ten Hag didn't do an amazing job. He excelled. But most people actually felt like he did well last season at United. Is it really his fault that they're struggling or is it the lack of structure at the club and the insane amount of injuries his team suffered? Didn't Liverpool drop down to 5th place last season for this same reason? Is United dropping from 4th to 7th that much different? By now, you'll all have read about Slot's tactics matching Liverpool's and how certain things match up perfectly with Liverpool's squad, like the fact that Feyenoord's right-back Geertruida comes into midfield to help the build-up, something Trent could do even better (although Geertruida is stronger defensively). The only thing about this I will mention, which I haven't seen in many places, is that he feels like a mix between Guardiola and Klopp. He sits somewhere in the middle, which could be just what Liverpool needs. To keep the energetic press and playstyle, but combine it with a more diverse build-up and possession play, which could solve the issue of breaking down very defensive teams. To wrap up this waaaaay too long-winded tale that no one will read. Yes, Ten Hag performed better on paper and got further in the Champions League, and Slot has less experience on a high level. I understand your fears that he might struggle against the higher-quality teams he will face. All I can say to that is that in the Champions League group stage, we held our own against Lazio, Celtic and Atletico Madrid. You wouldn't call it a successful campaign purely based on the results, but we dominated most matches, lacking only one thing: individual quality up front. A comment on the Liverpool FC forum from "Dirk-YNWA" explains this better than I could and way quicker: " *Feyenoord played this year since forever again in the CL. Feyenoord lost away from home at Atleti, in a game where Feyenoord dominated Atletico on their own turf. Atleti had an xG of 0.84 and Feyenoord 2.46. They also won brilliantly 3-1 against Lazio (and won against Celtic). The only reason they didn't go to the group stages in this tricky group, is because a) Lazio kept scoring 90min + winners and b) Feyenoord's players are still individually lower quality and earn 1/10th of the opponent's salaries."* To showcase this, I implore you to watch the first group stage match of this CL season Feyenoord played vs Atletico Madrid in Spain. Yes, we lost. But even missing our top striker, we pushed them back and outplayed them on many levels like Dirk-YNWA said. Even Simeone and the Spanish media agreed Atletico had come away very lucky. If Slot can give a team like that a run for their money, with a squad bought together for less than MacAllister alone cost last summer, I am extremely excited to see what he'll achieve with a team of top-quality players.

Made me nice money on those bets. They now FORCAST a very happy winning marriage between LFC & SLOT. LFC are STILL IN IT. Is it time to bring the 10 Kop-Kids Cup-Kings back? LFC Team shot conversion rate must rise from current 5% to 15% in run-in. The Most creative team in the world but blunted by having its best finisher injured for 3 months approx (Jota) Being fit to play after injury is not same as being in top form. Mo's conversion rate before injury was 23% & now it's 6%. If Jota had stayed fit, & Gakpo baby came a few hours later LFC wud be champs narrowly. JOTA'S CONVERSION rate is 33%. (& on big chances Jota converts a world best 66%, which is hugely better than Haaland & Darwin & Salah) - LFC has 1 worldy clinical finisher & ManC has 1 in Alverez. But Man C has Foden & KDB who have both scored loads of goals from midfield. Where as LFC's Dom & Trent have only just returned from long lay offs & thier goals & assists were missed by LFC. Anytime u win a cup & get into UCL, its a good season, so be grateful & stop moaning. Legends Bobby Moore, Alan Ball, Emyln Hughes, Cyrille Regis & Geoff Astle all died before age 60 & never got to see their kids married or play footy with teenage grandkids. Spurs will defeat Man C & Arsenal will be favourites & both have loseable games vs Spurs. Its only takes 1 red card 1 worldy goal 1 dodgy penalty 1 flukey OG to lose other games LFC have a 1.5% chance but its better than a 0.1% chance. U can't do much more when injuries rob u of ur top boys (eg Jota Trent Robbo Mo Alexis etc. Losing derbies always hurt worse than toothache, but get over it & pray 4 world peace, be nice to kids & animals, to make good luck karma kop fans. Kop fans should Pray that Arne signs a good contract & becomes Paisley 2.0 & then enjoy what may come. Thanks to Jurgen Shanks Klopp LFC has 10 Cup-King KOP-KIDS who will play in the UCL next yr. FUTURE is VERY BRIGHT with rising ARNE SLOT (the next Paisley 2.0). His 62% win rate is amazing (bossing an underdog team without any worldy stars to win titles & cups is amazing)

And no English manager with all their knowledge of the PL and English football has EVER succeeded at a top PL club. I do trust Slot, he is the most complete manager we have seen in a long time in NL And he will love the challenge. I understand the somewhat lazy comparisons with Ten Hag, but other than being bold and Dutch they have very little in common.

Currently there's only 1 world class Dutch player (don't come at me with Dumfries, De Jong or Reijnders). 14 years ago Netherlands came in second in the WC...They had Van Persie, Sneijder, Van der Vaart, Robben... Also, Ajax is not producing players anymore and they are selling off lemons like Anthony.

    • @@danielh4295 ah another miserable human being on the internet again I see. The standard of dutch players is indeed worse than it was, atleast the attacking part is really really bad. Funny enough what we lacked 10-15 years ago we have now in abundance. Our defense in that time was shocking but the attacking players made up for it. Dutch football is more than only players you know, the dutch competition has gotten a lot better. I agree we don’t have a lot of world class players, still think Frenkie is world class and of course VVD, the rest is simply forgettable. Ajax still produces talents but not every generation is good, I personally don’t really worry about that. We are a small country and it is always a bit up and down.

Didn't this style brought a lot of injuries and having players lacking energy during the crucial period of the season? We are playing slot machines here! I would rather have someone with Pep's style of football, more technical, more tactical and keeping players very fit and less injury prone. Alonso would have been perfect.
