Goosebumps... Inspiring performance by both. I hope HOCKEY'S, ovi crosby rivalry becomes boxing's version, Arturo gatti and Mickey Ward. If you don't know that history, treat yourself to the trilogy ok those fights. Then they become best friends and ward is in gatti's corner for a few fights. It's awesome stuff. Amazing
People often fail to mention that Ovechkin is the first player in history to win the Rocket, Hart, Ted Lindsay, and Art Ross trophies all in the same season during the 2007-2008 season.

Respect to you guys as a caps fan, watching Sid and Malkin over the years has been amazing as much as they have caused heartache.

@@jlondon8089 Mackinnon is already better than Draisaitl, yet you somehow think Draisaitl is his main rival? Not to mention the fact that you cant have a rival on your own team. Hell you could easily argue Mack is already better as he plays a full game, yet is still close to a 100 points each year, while McDavid and Draisaitl`s deffensive play is questionable at best. Oilers and Avs are 2 of my 3 favorite teams, and watching them both all the time I can say that its a razor thin margin between them.
@@domeniks3404 yea but no one watches soccer. It’s like Brady and Manning.
I can't recall any other player vs player rivalry ever being this great. Coming into the league with completely opposite "public" personalities. Two completely separate skill sets. Continuing in the same division on the same teams for this long. And, neither is showing signs of slowing. The team success just adds to two legends that will only continue to grow.
I know it’s cliche to say these are my two favourite players ever, but I literally started watching hockey consistently as an 8 year old the year they were both in their rookie seasons, and they instantly became my favourites and have been ever since.
Love or hate em because of your fandom, you gotta respect them both. They got millions of us into hockey and both did so much for the game. I’m a Pens fan, but have lots of respect for Ovi. Not only for him being one of the most unique and best players ever, but for what he’s done for the game. Bringing some flare and confidence, while being able to walk the talk. Just think, if Sid and Ovi didnt play hockey, this amazing sport would have millions and millions and millions of less fans and popularity.

But they were fighting for best player of this generation..crosby prob won that debate but they were rivals for that title ...i just appreciate what we get to see
I consider caps vs pens as more of a rivalry
The real rivalry is between divisional teams. The heated PERSONAL rivalry was Malkin and Ovi. But the faces of each team are the superstars, the Captain of each team, they carry the weight of it. Check out beef history OVI & Malkin on youtube. Honestly I hope they retire and become great friends. Much like Arturo Gotti and Mickey Ward in boxing. If you don't know that history treat yourself and watch that.
They have both said stuff abt it being true🤦♀️😂
As hockey fans... we just need to appreciate that we witnessed this.
Pens vs Caps is the greatest rivalry of the late 2000s/2010s by far. Both teams consistently at the top of the league with the two best players in the league duking it out. Just phenomenal

As a Caps fan, this rivalry is still very much alive and well. Might also be because the teams in general are rivals with each other.
Everyone just ignores the real rivalry in Malkin and Ovi

But Ovi is closer to Crosby than Malkin to Ovi.
@@brenzyc8703 Not true whatsoever. Malkin and Ovi are actually very close to each other, despite the beef they had in 2009. Crosby and Ovi only respect each other, but they aren't exactly friends.

Beautiful video!!!!
Ovechkin is very unique and the most popular megastar the league hasn’t seen before. No one like him.
An always pleasant rivalry to observe. Go Sid! Go Ovi!
Ovi is obviously the better goal scorer by far 🚨
I don't think anyone would argue that, Sid was never known as just a goal scorer.
@@WilliamStewart1 very true
@@MaiettaSportsMedia crosby is known for his skills with puch
True, but Crosby is the most complete player. However, we should not underestimate Ovi's passing skills.
@@jean-francoisfiset417 I agree 100%
They should make a 2 hour long documentary about this.
I think people pass over the fact that Crosby has always had a franchise player in Malkin on his team for his entire career, so when you compare the 2 players it is better to look at individual awards and career totals in goals, points, and assists, because Ovechkin never had a player like Malkin on his team. When comparing or trying to say who is better Crosby or Ovi it is hard to truly say, they're are both different players, Crosby = Playmaker, Ovechkin = Goal Scorer. As of right now I would say the best of the 2 is Crosby, however the second Ovechkin reaches 800 goals I will have to say Ovechkin is better. Because Ovi will be if he reaches 800 goals the 3rd to do it in history. He only needs 3 seasons of 32 goals to reach 800 or 47 goals over 2 seasons.
Sidney Crosby sacrificed alot of individual success in order to win Stanley Cups. Sid cares about nothing but winning as a team. Crosby could've asked to have his line stacked in order to maximize his own skill and he would've put up even more points than he already does. But instead he has always played with players who would be 3rd/4th line maybe 2nd line players (Kunitz, Dupuis, Sheary, Simon, McCann, Guentzel to name some). He does this so he can make other players around him better, and he does that well. If you're going to argue individual points, let's remember Sid has pretty much the same amount of points in his career than ovi in around 200 less games. Sure he doesn't have as many goals, but Sid utilizes his hockey sense and playmaking abilities to get more assists. Also, if you take ovi off his precious powerplay, he's not even in the running to beat 99s goal record. At the end of the day, my opinion is this; you can't really compare them head to head. This rivalry was overhyped from the start and it shouldn't even be a thing. The only thing they really have in common is when they entered the NHL, and for some reason that's why they were considered rivals. Sidney Crosby will go down as an obvious top 5 all around player of all time (arguably the best), and ovi will go down as a arguably the best goal scorer of all time. In the end both will be in the hall of fame with amazing careers and it's a shame they will always be compared like this when they shouldn't be.
@HOCKEY HELL YA If 800 goals is your deciding factor, than that opinion is stupid. If Crosby gets 1000 assists would that make him better? No you decide a players value on multiple factors, not just goals, assists, or points.
@@creepyrobsta5509 No because Ovechkin would be making history being the 3rd only player to 800 goals, also it make him IMO greatest goal scorer of all time. If Ovechkin never hits 800 goals then for me Mike Bossy will always be the better goal scorer. Here is the case for Bossy as the greatest goal scorer of all time: Number of NHL seasons: 10 Number of games played: 752 Number of goals scored: 573 9 - 50 goal seasons (tied with Gretzky as an NHL record) 5 - 60 goal seasons Highest goals per game: 0_76 all time leaders in even strength goals/ game: 0_51 number of cups won: 4 he led the league in goals 2 times won the conn smythe "When he shoots," said Al Arbour, Bossy's coach with the Islanders, "it doesn't even look like he touches the puck" "A lot of times players look up at the clock and say to themselves, 'well its too late to score,' " explained Bill Torrey the Islanders' longtime GM, "it was never, ever, too late for Mike Bossy to score."
Sid and it’s not even close. Best pure goal scorer ever goes to Ovi no doubt, but ask any gm or player ever and they take Crosby on their team over him every single time.
Mike Bossy is the best goal scorer ever. Or one can argue Lemieux is.
I never got the comparisons. One is a winger and one is a centre. They are both great.
@Joe Runstedler how is it not close? I mean even if you argue Crosby is better there’s no way there isn’t some competition
@Joe Runstedler how does one even come up with some random number like 80%? Have you yourself gone around and asked every GM? And really it’s a weird question to ask considering that it would depend on what that individual team needs more, a winger or a center. If they need a winger they’ll pick Ovi, need a center they’ll pick Sid, simple as that.
@Joe Runstedler ik you haven’t but that’s my point. I get it’s your opinion but it’s just kind of a weird scenario. It really depends on what a team needs. To say the debate between the two is not close seems inaccurate.
It's impossible to compare eras of hockey, so I'll keep it to this era, because the Gretzky vs. Crosby vs. Ovi discussion is tiring and we simply don't know how transplanting anyone into a different era would go down. That all being said: Crosby is the best 200-ft player of this era. Ovi is the best goal scorer of this era. Add the fact that they both stayed with the team that drafted them, and it made history. When they retire, it'll be a sad day for hockey. Caps vs. Penguins was must watch TV when playoffs came, and my only regret is we lost 2ish seasons of Crosby to concussion issues.
cool beef history thanks sb nation
Well done video
This rivalry changed hockey forever. Both came in at the same time, both transcended the game. We saw them in the Playoffs, in the Olympics, the World Cup, and the World Juniors. Ovi, better player, Crosby, greater player.
No ovi only better goalscorer. Crosby better player, especially with how strong he is on defense

I wouldn't call it a rivalry, but their careers are very much linked. The lockout season provided a chance for these two to start in the same season, and rise together in the NHL. They're almost like dopplegangers of eachother to me
Sorry but Crosby doesn't have An argument for best all around player ever. He would need many more accolades to even come close to Gretzky Lemuiex Orr. Head injury probably did derail this from fully happening, but after that massive concussion in his 5th year he was never quite the same. It's a shame, because he could have possibly passed gretzky or Lemuiex
If it wasn't for injuries/concussions Crosby had a legitimate shot at 2000 points. It seems to be gone now unless he plays til 40+ but he certainly could be in the conversation for 3rd best forward of all time behind 1a and 1b Gretzky and Super Mario.
@@XaviRonaldo0 Agreed. Now we will wait and see what the great McDavid does just about to enter his prime years can he achieve the greatest heights possible, let's find out.
NHL/media concocted “rivalry.” They just want to play the hockey.
Yeah, the NHL just wanted to sell tickets as they had thinning out crowds.
Ovechkin has been my favorite player with a passion since 07. Used to hate and disrespect Croz. Today it is Nice ti have them in the league. Currently Ovechkin has 7 more points, but they have always gone back and forth because Ovechkin plays every game and Crosby does not, but gets many assists to keep them locked together points wise. Would like another ovie cup and 900 goals. If he remains healthy 900 will come. Another cup if the whole team shows up better than in 2018.
👋 два моих от души любимых клуба 😉💪👍✊✌ 8-87 😈😇👏👏👏😎
This "rivalry" is bolstered by what has been over most of the years, two pretty stacked teams... It may not have been such a rivalry had Malkin, Gonchar, Kessel, Letang, et al, and Backstrom, Green, Kuznetsov, Carlson, Semin, et al ... If either one of these guys ended up being drafted by Minnesota, or Arizona, would there have been such a rivalry? Not only out-of-division (not seeing each other so often), but also, on teams where they'd have had to carry the whole team by themselves... To sum up, I think the rivalry was as much about circumstance as pure head-to-head talent. They remain two of the greatest to ever play the game, no doubt, though.
Crosby better overall, look at the games played difference and total points. Ovi is a better goal scorer but I’d take Crosby any day saying he’s healthy the whole season. Both are generational talents A+ hockey players
6:40 - three of the remaining five games went to OT, but the Pens only won 2 of them. Capitals won game 6 in OT in 2009, which forced a game 7 in DC.
Such a shame we never got to see a Crosby for a full healthy stretch in the early 2010’s. Would’ve been multiple 110 pt seasons
I’ve always thought the same thing...similar to what happened to Mario, unfortunate illness and injuries really flattened career stats that otherwise would be eye popping. People need to look at the points per game stats , not just season. Crosby missed a good two years of his prime
Respect for 2 of the best!
3:54 Marrian Hossa be like: “those guys can win”
Are these 2 like the ronaldo and Messi off the nhl??
As they have matured I just don't think it's much of a rivalry. They are both amazing, and very different players. As a Caps fan I am biased to Ovie, but have nothing bad to say about Crosby and the excellent teams the Pens have put on the ice. Happy we were able to get one in '18. Would have been a real shame if Ovie had never gotten to hoist it.
Ovi is the best player Washington has ever had , Crosby has been invaluable to the Pens and the competition between the two has been great for the NHL. As a Caps fan it is hard to not dislike Crosby and I'm sure the Pens fans feel the same towards Ovi.
It’s funny, since no one really sees the caps as a team the had a lot of good players, but they had Dale Hunter, Mike Gartner, Rod Langway, and a bunch of other guys that became legends, like Jose Theodore, Jaromir Jagr, Scott Stevens, and just a bunch of other guys. They’ve always been postseason disappointments though, much to my despair as a caps fan

People often call Crosby washed. When it’s really the opposite, the man’s still scoring a decent amount of points for the number of injuries. It’s insane how much Crosby has been able to do with the amount of concussions. Sure, Ovechkin can score, but he’s a one trick pony, he’s a selfish player. It’s almost unbelievable that Crosby has done as much as he’s done in the amount of games he’s played. Ovechkin deserved a cup but there have been times when his team could’ve advanced. 2017, Crosby was injured for that week due to the Niskanen headhit, the penguins were busted up, and the caps had a chance to win a game which could’ve given them the round. But the Pens did some magic.
