Apple kicked off 2021 a bit late with an April 2021 (4/20) event held online. The long fabled AirTag (yeah, it isn’t plural) have been released and the new Find My update in iOS 14.5 is part of Apple’s grand plan to become the de-facto device tracking network. We got a new iPhone 12 in a cute purple color (aww), and we finally got a new Apple TV 4K 6th generation with a redesigned Siri Remote (GOODNESS, GRACIOUS IT WAS ABOUT TIME, EH!?). A long rumored iMac design finally came to fruition with an M1 chip and external power supply (yeah, the design is weird and we talk about that), and then we have the most powerful iPad Pro ever made that exceeds the display performance of any device Apple has ever made. And that’s where things get sus. Apple isn’t telling us something very important about the future of iPad and I theorize what this might be. This isn’t a summary video-it’s an analysis. The iMac charger reminds me of that god-awful Surface Pro charger.
Although Apple has always said that they would keep MacOS and iPad OS separate, I can't help but think that an M1 equipped iPad pro could be an ideal all in one with the right peripherals like external monitor, keyboard and mouse. It would go against Apple's goal of selling you an iPad and Mac separately when you would only need one, but surely that should now be possible with the addition of the M1 and thunderbolt.
Dbrand should make a skin for the white edges of the new imac.
That Hermès Key thing holds an AirTag, but is so expensive that it needs it’s own AirTag.

@@eliadbu I think apple is figuring it out... their butterfly keyboards that they made less tactile failed epically. Sometimes buttons reign supreme, not only because we are used to them, but in some use cases have better function
I genuinely believe that they kept the chin because it's now a major part of the imac brand. It's still instantly recognizable if you see it, and Apple has to view that as a major positive.
It’s also where the speakers are and speakers are quite sensitive to size so being able to give them that much more room will be noticeable in the sound quality. Also agree that it’s large part branding.

Apple is the same company that said they removed the charging brick to cut down on e-waste, but still included the lightning cable, which would contribute to e-waste. They speak out both sides of their mouth.
Some of us old school people still carry a wallet with cards in them, and even... (come closer... closer.... closer....) CASH AS WELL!!! I've just dropped one into my wallet, so at least I stand some sort of chance of finding it when I leave my jacker somewhere or misplace my wallet! :)

Well, sometimes Apple was giving us a glimpse in the future. By the end of the Covid hype the few who have some money left might start the time proven tradition again. Just think, don‘t we always do tests on animals first? Well, we have chipped them a long time and now we are ready for the next step: the human chip! ;-)
You know, a few years ago I remember people saying, “The hardware hasn’t caught up to the software yet,” (I’m looking at you Autodesk Maya!) but nowadays I’m inclined to say the opposite - “The software hasn’t caught up to the hardware yet.” Kind of wild to think about imo!
That's starting to happen all across the computing landscape. PCIe Gen 4, AMD's behemoth server chips, and of course Apple Silicon. I feel like they've barely scratched the surface of what the M1 can do.
It's even more funny when you realize the statement "to get serious about software, you have to make your own hardware," also stands true. We live in an exciting time indeed!

Why can’t they keep a consistent color scheme between products!? That’s great that I can buy an orange iMac now, but why can’t I buy an orange iPhone and iPad Air to go with it? Why is the blue iPhone 12 not the same blue as the iMac? These are details Steve Jobs would’ve gotten right.

@@Adrian-wd4rn No. For one, SG isn't consistent across all years and models. For two, it's not available on all models (no SG 7, Xr, Xs, 11, 12, 12 Mini, 12 Pro, SE 2, Mac Mini M1, iMac).

@Daniel Janiš I personally was even more shocked when he put he M1 chip in his watch to carry it to the iPad. I thought they are going to put the M1 into the Apple Watch. But, yeah, why would they even do that?
FYI, the AppleTV calibration is also featured on the "old" 4K version now after the recent update. Yet, if you have a calibrated television, or if you are using Dolby Vision (not sure what criteria it is using and how it can detect it), it tells you that you won't need it and won't initiate the calibration.

I like your idea of combining an iPad and a Mac for the pro level apps. Also, the 12.9" iPad Pro could make for an interesting entry-level HDR grading monitor in sidecar mode, perhaps. I'm sure many professional colorists would disagree, but it could be a more affordable way for the broader world of creators to start publishing HDR content. I'm saying this in the context of normally needing to spend $30K for a Sony HDR reference monitor or working with a $2000 HDR TV and rigging up a calibration pipeline. Oh, and those TVs are often way too big for the offices in which most of us work.
Honestly A pretty good idea. To further validate, I'd argue that most people aren't pro colorists. A good display, is a good display.
Agree with you 100%. The ProDisplay XDR is proof of Apple's attempt to provide a very good monitor at a reasonable price and they succeed.

@@matthewclark4510 In Super Mario Odyssey, there was an online gamemode called Luigi's Balloon World where players were tasked to hide/seek a balloon (as well as possible) in exchange for a reward in coins. People could hide and seek Airtags by just hiding them similarly (although I guess they'd have to be synced to the phone first)
Snazzy! This has probably been the beste video you‘ve ever made. I mean the quality of your videos is always insanely good, but you blew me away with this one. The sheer quality of explanations in layman‘s terms combined with the necessary wit that is distinct to you and your channel, was just so much fun to watch. Great job! Loved it.

I think that only works if the tag is placed in lost mode. Though I’m not sure how it would get the signal and get updated if it does not come into contact with a compatible iPhone. We will see.
@@Spartan2x maybe through the Find My network. If any Apple device can identify a lost AirTag or notify of an AirTag following you, they should also be able to send the signal to update any AirTag to Lost Mode.

Me in my 20s would have been extremely excited about this 'internet of things' prospect, but the 33yo me is scared by the amount of geotracking and lack of actual privacy. Surely I can't be the only one.
I'm 24 and honestly I don't really care how much me or my data is tracked, all they'll use my data for is to try and push an ad or suggestion my way. It's a little invasive for sure, but what really can they track that I'd care about? (genuine question if you have an answer by the way!)

The first to upgrade to newer IPads (including me myself) are the artists and designers and industrial designers. The presentation showed something you didn’t mention - the new Procreate with something like paint-over-model capabilities plus AR support (like substance painter but you can look at this in real world) plus architects too will benefit from powerful M1 with AR And 16 gigs is nuts for painting (with Thunderbolt Display support) because now you can really paint like a pro with cintiq and so on

I would love to see a video on Air Tags. I gave up on tile because half the time they wouldn’t work or the battery was dead after three months.
Yep. I got a tile for Christmas a few years ago and it was great, but they still had the plan of “just send your old tile in and pay money for a new one.” I got a new one when they did user replaceable batteries, and it was dead in 3 months. Never looked back.

It's time for the iMac line to take a note out of the Surface Studio book and release a hinge that is actually useful! They already done that by releasing the keyboard case for the iPad (like the Surface Pro line), now it's time to give us that too.
time for Microsoft to take a note out of the Apple and make actually functioning products that don't have horrendous engineering and absurdly high failure rates. Imagine spending 4k on a computer with a giant screen and it doesn't even have 120 hz displays LOL, while simultaneously being shit on in raw power by a tablet.

Man I just love the way you breakdown Apple's releases. I'm a big fan myself, I have a £5.5k MacBook Pro for video editing, iPhone 12 Pro, iPad Pro, Airpods Pro & Apple TV. And AirTags are certainly something I'd look into and would love to know more about them. I have about £10k worth of camera kit I could do with keeping tabs on so the concept of tracking them is a great idea where I could hide one inside the lining of camera bags etc. So yeah! A video would be helpful. Thanks!
I feel differently from both you and MKBHD. I like the look of the iMac and the reason they went with this design, including the chin and colors is because it's iconic.

I'd actually love dualbooting Macos with iPadOS as long as the transition between them would be seamless. I'd get the new iPad Pro in a heartbeat if it meant I'd be able to use Macos on it (they could even limit it to just the 512Gb version and above).
I'd really love to see a trackpad with the touchID sensor in it. It makes more sense, as a lot more people could be talked into buying it that way (the trackpad already selling far fewer than keyboards) and it's something you'll already be touching as you log in. Click to wake the system with your fingerprint being scanned simultaneously, just like on the keyboard, but then only have to move a few cm to start using it, rather than lifting your hand up, looking down, moving over to the trackpad, and using it. It would be more... natural feeling.
Great video! Have you been able to track down whether or not the new Apple TV 4K will support spatial audio? Haven’t been able to find that little tidbit. It seems like it would have been a huge oversight for Apple to have not included it!

Everyone get your sharpies, and leave the peel tape on so you can color that instead of the bezel itself. Cut out a hole around the camera, or use an old school arts and crafts hole punch like they had in elementary schools across the US and Canada in the late 80's through the 90's. I think they still sell them at most arts and crafts supply stores.

I didn’t know about that new Apple TV remote, thanks for mentioning it. Might have grab one. Still haven’t hit any limits on my 2017 iPad Pro, and I still use its headphone socket. So still can’t imagine upgrading to a newer model anytime soon. Unless they release a newer version of iOS that no longer works with it.
