The Championship is renowned for being chaotic and unpredictable, however, it's not often we get a title race that is as competitive as this season's has been. We discuss the protagonists, Leicester City, Leeds United, Southampton and Ipswich Town and their form this season. We also look at the run in for the teams involved and predict who we think will be promoted to the Premier League.

Ipswich have shocked everyone ! They deserve it.
They've done very well to compete with sides in receipt of parachute payments! McKenna has worked wonders and their recruitment has been top notch👍
I'm amazed how well Leeds have done this season. Ipswich were a league one side last season, yes, but they were Championship quality. We were a Prem side, yes, but we were nowhere near Prem quality (we were getting battered in the run-in). Leeds and Town were, effectively, both just in the queue for the Championship. Town were coming from a position of winning momentum and growing confidence, whereas we were in total disarray. Leicester shouldn't be allowed back up this season as they cheated the FFP., or at least have a points deduction.
Leeds have been so impressive! Considering how many players they lost and how poor the team cohesion seemed at the end of last season. Ipswich added to their strong squad and they have a togetherness that is difficult to create.
farke has done what was expected of him. leeds have probably the best squad in the league
What a Farke-ing performance by Leeds
For Farke Sake🤦♂️🤣
Such well spoken young men. If only all the youth were like this.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video!🙌❤️
Leeds fan. Ipswitch play the most entertaining system
Fair point! Ipswich play a lovely brand of football!
'entertaining' you mean defensively poor
Leeds have done the double over both Leicester and Ipswich. If they go up as champions neither team can have any complaints
Great point! Leeds need both teams to drop points and stay flawless to win the league though!
Leeds are unbeaten at Elland Rd (8 points dropped from 60), Ipswich have only lost one at Portman Rd (11 points dropped from 60). Rock sold home form provides a great base for a promotion challenge.
Couldn't agree more! I think Luton Town last season provide the greatest evidence of this! Not the strongest side but Kenilworth Road was a fortress. I feel like Leicester have lost that core, passionate support after their league win and champions league run. Made them a bit touristy. Certainly makes a difference with crowds like Ipswich and Leeds!👍
@@TheFootballChatLeicester has never had a great atmosphere
@@kelvinengland3991 atmosphere was brilliant during the great escape and title win.
@@circle2867 it's never gonna be comparable to a place like Elland Road or St james. Been a few times it's always been average at best.
you got my sub, intelligent pair of lads
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video!👍
Ipswich fan here. Yeah I agree with you. We are not the best team, but we never give up and fight til the final whistle. It's going to be tough to get promoted due to our injury list now.
Thanks for the comment! I think the game against Norwich this weekend will be very important for Ipswich. Norwich tend to turn up for the Derby, especially now they're competing for a spot in the play-offs!
Leeds have a bad injury list. Struijk been out since January first and rest of the season. Who was our best cb. Gnoto out for 2 more weeks. Gruev been out but might be back next game. Connor roberts out for 2 weeks. Rodon has back spasms but is trying to play through it.
Gonna quote something I saw a Leeds fan say recently: “It just seems written in the stars. Whether it’s as champions, runners up or a multi-deflection winning goal in the last seconds of added time injury time extra time at Wembley, I have never seen a team so destined for promotion as Ipswich.”
Yeh I agree! Just seems like they're going to do it
So we have hull city, Norwich, Ipswich, Southampton, West Brom, Leicester, Coventry, Leeds who are fighting for promotion, I do see Ipswich coming to the premier league along with Leicester and Leeds
Difference between McKenna and Kompany is Keiran has been coaching and learning his trade for over a decade. Vincent doesn't have that level of experience in the coaching/management side of the game to fall back on.
That's a great point! I think McKenna has done really well with coaching individuals, which makes sense given his background. Obviously, Kompany's playing experience is invaluable which makes a difference. I think Kompany was very naïve this season, which coaches like McKenna or managers who played at a lower level, like Rob Edwards, are not.
not an Ipswich fan but they have a lot of admirers considering they not an up and down team from the premier league
Their rise and the way they play football has captivated a lot of people!
On paper our squad doesn’t compete, but the mighty blues are so well drilled and full of confidence. Full belief we can score up until last kick of the game. Best value season ticket around.
Definitely best value! Can't believe how affordable it is considering they might be in the Premier League next season! And they are playing some great football - will be interesting to see where they finish when it all shakes out!👀
Football is played on grass not paper, a well known manager once said, Ipswich after 39 games are top of the league and have a good a chance as any of the three teams up there, for me Leicester have a favourable run in plus a game in hand and i feel will go on to win the league. Whoever finishes third may struggle to win the play offs due to the pressures and tiredness of trying to get one of the automatic places. Southampton are probably out of the equation at this moment in time so they may rest some of their better players and keep them fresh for the play offs and i would be surprised if they dont win them. (Leeds fan)
Love this video please do more
Thanks!🙌❤️
Saturday is going to be pivotal Coventry away won’t be easy as people think I hope we can get the 3 points confident to a degree
I agree, will be difficult. Could do with Norwich beating Ipswich as well!
Good vid :)
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!🙌❤️
Well said
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video!🙌❤️
Leeds & Ipswich will get top 2. Momentum and form is massive in football and those 2 sides have that whilst Leicester are way off it.
Completely agree! Who do you think will win the playoffs?
Leeds didn't know who was staying and who was going when Farke took over, so yeah it did take a while to get a team together
Yeh, that's a great point - they definitely look like they're pulling in the same direction now!
@TheFootballChat Sinistera left at last minute, Gnoto refused to play. Max Wober said he was staying then left. It's no wonder we were all over the place.
Let’s hope it’s a Ipswich Norwich play off final what a game between to fierce rivals
That would be amazing!
Last 10 games: Ipswich W9, D0, L1 GD +18 PTS 27 Leeds W8, D2, L0 GD +18 PTS 26 Leicester W5, D1, L4 GD +6 PTS 16 Prediction Ipswich, Leeds then Norwich via play-offs.
Love the Prediction! Ipswich have been very strong recently, Leeds have looked unstoppable since Christmas and Norwich always seem to end a season stong!
There’s not 10 games left you muppet what on earth is this
Worth pointing out that the 1 Ipswich loss was against Cardiff. They were actually winning that game at the end of the 90. Better game management on that day and we'd be looking at 10 for 10.
It's the last 10 matches played rather than the last 10 of the season👍
Great point!👍
I enjoy the Championship far more than the Premier League. In fact I said to my friends back in May 1992 that I'd enjoyed watching Leeds win the Second Division far more than the First Division. With the Premier League being so money obsessed, it's even worse now. I'd happily win the Championship every two or three years and never get promoted if it wasn't for the fact we'd lose all of our good players and be broke.
I think this extends down the pyramid. The interests of Premier League owners differ so much from fans. The disconnect seems to widen every passing season. We need more clubs like Luton in the Premier League, where football is the only thing that matters, and money is only there to make it happen
Leeds and Leicester city automatic as for the play-offs as it stands now Norwich vs Southampton or West Brom in the final
Nice Predictions!👍
@@TheFootballChat it’s not a prediction it it a fact I stand by what i said ipswich will BOTTLE THIS and fail in the playoffs ipswich will finish 3rd lost to Norwich in the playoffs 1 win 8 will be 1 win in 9 playoff appearances
Ipswich Leicester Leeds via play-offs
Nice Predictions!🙌
Nah. Leeds will won’t be in the playoffs since they will be in the top two. Leeds’s unbeaten home form will prove the difference.
@@georgemacpherson1992 Nxt game , Simms , Palmer ... Just watch
Leeds never go up via playoffs, too much expectation, at this level their opposition are always the underdogs and for many leeds players it will be the biggest club they play for so a few break under the preassure if its all on one game, like they did against Derby
Leeds and Ipswich automatically and coventry thru the play offs
Nice Predictions!🙌
Next 3 games will dictate it for me, if Leicester beat B'ham, M'wall and Plymouth with possibility of Ipswich losing to Norwich and Leeds to Coventry I see Leicester getting top 2 HOWEVER if Leicester dont get 9 points from those 3, and Leeds/Ipswich get through to this weekend, I see it staying as it is. Ipswich beat Norwich away they will be well away and buzzing. Leeds have a confidence about them and swag which Leicester months ago. It will be very very close.
I agree. For Leicester the task is simple - win every game, win the league. However, they haven't been very consistent recently so that may prove easier said than done👍
Possibly of Ipswich losing to Norwich? It’s nailed on that ipswich will get at least a draw and they should be considered lucky to leave with a point it will be a draw or a defeat they aren’t going win before kickoff take one last look at the table because they won’t be top anymore and will slide out of the top 2 and finish 3rd and failure in the playoffs
Southampton shouldnt be on that thumbnail they are staying in the championship and should never have hired Russell Martin.
Interesting take. Why do you not rate Russell Martin?
@@TheFootballChat too married to one style of football that is overly concerned with recycling the ball and retaining possession above anything else, not to mention he is unproven at a bigger club with lofty ambitions. It's ok playing pretty football at a mid table side with no expectations. I said right at the start of the season he was a poor choice and due to his appointment Southampton would finish below Leeds and Leicester despite having probably the 2nd best squad in the division. Their team in unreal at this level and he has them getting thumped on the regular by mid table teams and then showing he can't handle the pressure by spitting his dummy out, being disrespectful and acting like a big kid. You want to see how to carry yourself in these situations go and look at Daniel Farke because Martin and Maresca have let themselves and their clubs down by the way they have acted in the recent past.
After last night, count Ipswich Town out.🤬
Well everyone except Southampton dropped points🤷♂️
Leeds will win the championship! I hope and pray we Finnish second, just simply because as a true blue, I DO NOT! want 2 go in2 the playoffs against the fools up the road. I want us both 2 go up tho, because they would av deserved it 2 and we! both counties love the Derby (not this Saturday tho) as the nerves r kicking in and having no finger nails left now, makes me feel sick saying it,but I do hope narch go up 2,but only if we do it through auto's, not play offs.
Ipswich vs Norwich in the playoffs would be fierce! Would be great to see that rivalry in the Premier League!
@@TheFootballChat nooooooooo! I'm 51,my heart couldn't take it. Like I said,if/pray we do go up. That those yellow fools do 2. Mx
Leicester Ipswich , Southampton to win Playoffs
Interesting Prediction! Will be so harsh on whoever doesn't go up this season!
Leicester, Leeds, Ipswich have equal chances. Southampton's chances are quite low in that fight.
I think Leicester and Leeds have a better chance considering their quality and Leeds have more points/Leicester have their game in hand. Ipswich definitely still in with a great chance though.
As a Saints fan, I'm just hoping we can at least win the play-offs.
@@TheFootballChat Leeds don't have more points than Ipswich!
Great point😅😭
1. Ipswich 2. Leicester 3. Leeds Coventry win the play offs
Leeds to stay in the Championship? Why do you think they'll fail to get promoted? I like the Coventry shout! Will all depend on Norwich's end to the season and whether Coventry can get points in some tough fixtures
@TheFootballChat Because we're Leeds and nothing is ever simple. We'll get 96+ points and it won't be enough
Leeds will win it, between us( Ipswich) and Leicester now,
Not done much research Leicester have won every game they’ve played again teams currently in the playoffs
That's just not true. They've drawn with Ipswich twice, lost to Leeds both times, drawn and lost to Hull, all whilst those sides were in the Top 6. Additionally, the playoffs are always unpredictable. Teams raise their levels when promotion to the Premier League is at stake!
@@TheFootballChat None of those teams are currently in the play offs...
I thought the question was asking what teams they have beaten whilst that team was in the playoffs. Either way, just because they beat Southampton, Norwich and West Brom, doesn't mean they will in the playoffs
