Every place different but from what I know, you usually don’t need a gun until you get one. Some people willing to take a L and some people willing to die about theirs. You choose
How to live in the hood : - Google : "mind your business, don't be rude and offer little things" - Bing : "Keep one in the chamber at all time."
Both are right
Keep quiet and be ready to make someone else quiet by planting those fools
Bing keeping it real
Bing came up the hard way

I live in a bad neighborhood, simple: -dont snitch -mind your own business -head up -headphones out
- Hoodie down is another one I'd add.
-Dont swear at people if you don't know them. You might even get stabbed.
@@afinoxi you might get stabbed anywhere if you swear at people , why would you do that in the first place?

There are no Karens in those neighborhoods. Only when you're well-fed and cozy can you afford to act entitled.

One time a homeless man saved me from a mugging, usually bought him a bag of chips and a drink whenever I went to fill up my car, as he usually slept just outside the gas station bathrooms, as I'm pumping my car a man in basketball shorts and a red puma jacket approached me asking for some change, being the nice guy I am I reached into my pocket and pulled out my wallet, dude literally just grabs it and bolts Thomas the homeless guy runs after the dude and tackles him not even 4 meters away from where I was standing, Havent seen Thomas in a long time, I'm afraid hes either dead or the store owner just got sick of him and kicked him out, but I'm also hopeful he just got a job and is happy.
Thomas is a legend. Thomas The Tank Engine got nothing on Thomas The Tank.
Thats actually really sweet
Yes befriend the homeless if you travel through their area a lot. You'd be surprised how much they will help someone that is helping them when lots don't. Also, they are often a lot more in tune with what's going on around them than you.
@@SPiderman-rh2zk they are famously a great source of information, for centuries used by spies, police, gangs, all sorts. Tit for tat. Plus just basic human kindness. Give when you can. Be kind when you cant, and kind regardless.
@@kungfuskull For sure. I was homeless myself for a time and I didn't realise how integral they are to a city. Having been there I try to be friendly with homeless wherever possible.
I like how these survival tips for dealing with local thugs are so similar to dealing with aggressive wild animals. “Don’t make eye contact, don’t look like prey, don’t go out after dark.”
They should be put down.

They are predators - so 🤷♀️ - same rules aply.
That’s just survival. Humans are animals. It’s easily translatable. Would you walk into another humans house? No? Same with animals. You’ll realize that the hood is very primal. Violence is typically always on the table, just as it would be if we hadn’t built our modern society. Animals do mating calls and birds fluff their feathers and bulge their necks. Humans put makeup on, but expensive things, but gifts and stuff. It’s all animal instinct plus a few extra steps. Just understand there’s a lot of violence because there’s a lot of pain.

Lived in a few “rough” neighborhoods, and knowing your neighbors is truly the best way to stay safe, hands down. Once people know you live there, they tend to look out for you. I’ve literally had a guy ask me “Is he bothering you, Mami?” When some creep was creeping. Be a patron at the local establishments. Be friendly on the street. Maybe give your neighbors Christmas cards. That’s what I did and people left me alone.
Facts. Mind your business, know people, don't be a bitch. Those are the main fuckin 3.
I'm nice to everyone, and on my way to school, if I see anyone, I say hi, ask them how they are, and just generally be nice, especially to the elderly. I'd say being nice to people, especially the elderly, can help you. Then again, my town isn't really the type to be "bad." It's bad because its more towards the poverty side.
Sometimes it isn't cause where I live even if you know your neighbors they too mind their own business
Trust is really valuable especially on rough neighborhood.
If they're regular thugs, not total lunatics, being pregnant/carrying a baby will often get you a pass and sometimes even help.
Never carry cash. "You gotta dollar? I need to catch the bus." Nope. "You got an extra cig?" This is my last one, sorry. "Yo, do you have the time?" Nah, I dont have my phone on me. "Can you give me a ride to (someplace really close)?" Nah, I'm on my way to work. ^ I get that one a lot, actually.
Second the cash thing. I come from a very stupidly safe place, where even the rare few homeless people don't ask you for change. So when I first traveled to not-so-safe places, my mindset wasn't on that wavelength and I did give someone a dollar. Ended up following me, yelling and asking for more money, trying to get the attention of someone else they knew. If I wasn't a grown-ass man with a size advantage, I'm sure that situation could've ended a lot differently. Long story short, no one wants a single dollar.
I usually ask back, "Shit. You got a dollar?"(If it's people I've seen before) or when it comes to cigarettes, I'll ask for 50 cents.(First time people I'll give them a free one). New faces, I say "Nah man, I'm broke." Here in Atlanta, that's what you'll hear a lot. "You gotta dollar?", "You got 50cent?", "You got a cigarette", "Let me have that short". Don't get rides as much, but I did get some people asking if I want to go half on some hard(crack)
@@Banned4Life Been there! Lady on the street pins a little flower on my chest and asks me for a donation for a charity. I obviously know she isn't collecting for a charity, but I feel like i'm in a good mood and think the little flower is a nice positive thing, so I give her one pound. Next she tells me I have to give her 50 pounds and starts herassing me trying to prevent me from continuing my path even starts grabbing for my wallet. I obviously didn't give her the money, but this seriously ruined my mood.
Oh fuck I nearly forgot all the questions you're bombarded with everyday lol. You eventually just tune it out and it becomes an automatic response.
I'm usually pretty keen on my feet. But I've given SO MANY strangers rides that it's ridiculous. I've given people I dont know the names of rides to work dozens of times because I see them on the way to my work and I dont bother or remember with names lmao. I actually met my current boss that way when his muffler fell off in front of me. I'll probably get stabbed one day lol
Just to add some extra tips, I’m not from a bad neighborhood (I got lucky and grew up in the suburbs) but my mom was from Manhattan NY and she taught me everything she knows about getting around town safely. We go there every other week and she teaches me how to get around and get things done. 1) the whole walk fast, don’t act like your lost thing is VERY IMPORTANT. when you look lost it sends a signal to others that you’re vulnerable, and that is NEVER a good thing. 2) when you’re on the subway, ALWAYS sit next to the door when it’s available. Either try to sit alone or sit next to people who have a good air to them and seem safe. If push comes to shove, just stand, you don’t want to get caught up in the middle of the subway and something happens and you can’t get off in time. 3) don’t be out late at night, it’s a simple but important rule. If you’re gonna be outside, be in a familiar area and have someone with you. 4) SAFETY IN NUMBERS. Nobody wants to jump someone who’s walking with a group of people, period. 5) surround yourself with good people, try to avoid gang members being in your inner circle, even if they’re not particularly violent or dangerous. there’s way too much that could happen when you have connections with people who can have you mugged and killed with a snap of their fingers. You don’t have to live a life in fear if you just take the right steps. 6) alleys are never a good idea. Ever. Just don’t. 7) for the love of god don’t try to act tough. Keep your mouth shut, unless someone drops their wallet or some money don’t talk to people on the street unless you know them. I’m a bit slick mouthed and that’s gotten me a more than my fair share of backhands, I’m still trying to work on it. 8) RESPECT. Do NOT disrespect anyone. It will not turn out well under any circumstances. Not to anyone below you and not to anyone above you and definitely not to someone on your level. The best way to avoid disrespecting people is apologizing even when you don’t feel like it’s necessary. Even when you feel like you’re joking, apologize and tell the you don’t mean any disrespect. It’s better to apologize for nothing than to not apologize for something. 9) be familiar with your area at all times, and when you’re exploring new areas be with someone who does know it. You never want to get lost. 10) females, sometimes you really just gotta look like a dude when you’re out at night. Safety is important. 11) don’t flirt with anyone you don’t know personally. You do NOT wanna flirt with a hoe who says she don’t got a boyfriend and then her man shows up and pops a cap in your ass. 12) be scared but don’t act like it, stay on your toes but don’t let anyone see. Glance around the area occasionally but don’t look suspicious. 13) last and most important. BE NICE, But don’t be afraid to show you’re not to be fucked with. Showing kindness is good but that’s also weakness. Be a double edged sword. Thanks for reading and I hope you learned something
thank you

Most answers: "Mind your own business" Other answer: "Minding your own business is the worst thing you can do" Me: *confused screaming*
Being from a bad neighborhood; Mind your own business but keep alert of everything. Minding your own business basically means just not to stare at people or intervene if you see something going down
Mind your own business = dont be nosy and keep walking. Dont just mind your business= dont come off as scared or out of place. Be aware of where you are and what's going on, but dont point or stare... dont look like a target or a witness.
That EMT's answer was sarcasm. He was saying everyone was "minding their own business" when asked what they were doing... it's just that their business was a drug deal or theft or prostitution, etc.
Ignoring the people talking to you is what can get you into major trouble
It’s all circumstances but most of the time minding your own business can save your life but being alert of strangers can also be helpful
Making friends with the scariest looking dudes in my neighborhood saved my life dont judge a book by its cover
@Polo Marco I imagine it takes time, those guys know you live in the area, you don't come up to them and say "What's up wanna be friends?"
Same just by being chill and small talk and hooking him up with loose smokes homie stopped some heavy people who had had a misunderstanding from fucking with me
@Polo Marco If you grow up around people like that, you learn to know who is dangerous and who is not, mostly the eyes and the way they react to you. My advise is that is always better to about hard drugs user, they are a lot more inestable and unpredictable that the guy that killed 3 people but doesn't do drugs, be friendly but never be friends with them because there is always someone looking for revenge or just violence and the "friends" had to stand for them ir are traitors and the traitors never last long.
I mean once they’re your friends then I would assume that’s good. The problem is the friend part
@Polo Marco My solution was to marry some one who looks like he walked straight out of the Ice Age. Worked out pretty well.

Never show weakness. ALWAYS walk with your chin up and chest out. If real G's see you slackin, they will test you. When you're walking home at night, use the alleys and hug the wall. Don't walk in the middle. Be careful which color you wear that day if you're gonna be walking around your hood. Keep your money in your socks. Don't snitch to cops and handle it yourself. If you see a cop and got weed or drugs on you, pick your nose when you feel them about to roll up on you. A person picking their nose is gross enough to even make cops step back and not wanna touch you. This is just a little bit of street knowledge I learned growing up in LA. A book could be written.

My area has one rule: Avoid Green and Urquhart Street after dark. One time mum got drunk and dad was out drinking, me and my sister couldn't contact him because mum was unresponsive (she was concious and muttering stuff but is basically brain dead), we had to walk to a family friend who lived 500m up the road. It was about 11pm when we made the trek and we moved double time, saw 2 or 3 people watching us from their front lawns. They didn't move. They just stared at us, with a straight face. I'll never forget that look on their face. This happened when I was 11 and sister was 10, that was 7 years ago.
Damn bro, you didn't grow up in a bad neighborhood, your parents were why the neighborhood was bad.
Never grew up in the “bad” neighborhoods but always in the surrounding areas in the US and Jamaica 1) AVOID driving down/through certain roads/areas unless you know someone there, or have no other choice. If you do, DON’T take your sweet ass time (lost or not), don’t stare at people, and never just pull up on someone fast either, even if it’s just to ask for directions. Yell from your car or wait till you’re back on the main road/store/gas station. Also, don’t start winding down your window either. Plus I don’t recommend stopping at certain stop signs/lights especially at night. Getting a ticket is way better than being jacked. 2) MIND YOUR F*cking BUSINESS! Neighbor’s yelling because she caught him cheating again? Eavesdrop, but never chime in or mention any of it to either of them later on. If anyone asks, you know and heard NOTHING! 3) Be careful who you let in your house or car! Even if they’re the sweetest person ever, you don’t know what kind of reconnaissance mission they’re on. If they need to use the bathroom, say your water got cut. They need an egg? Say gimme a sec, close your door, get the egg, and hand it over all while barely opening the door. Say it’s because your place is a mess, your mama’s sleeping, it’s not really your place, whatever. You don’t want to NOT give an explanation though because, it’ll make people more curious about what you’re hiding or think you’re being rude. If they wanna hang out, hang out on the porch. 4) someone trying to sell you some shit for cheap? Say you’re broke! Possession of stolen items/goods can land you on law enforcement’s radar. 5) DONT ASK ANY QUESTIONS! The less you know, the better. 6) find out the unspoken “curfew.” If the streets are clear and no one’s leaving their house to go out, stay your happy ass inside too. 7) position your beds and shit away from windows and exterior walls if you can. Stray bullets don’t discriminate. 8) take ALL your shit out of your car with you! Nice radio? Aux cord? Backpack, pennies, bag of Cheetos? Take them out! I’ve seen some people go as far as taking their steering wheel off each time lol. I laughed my ass off, but when have you ever seen a car thief bring a spare steering wheel with them? 9) good rule in general: BE RESPECTFUL! If there are people outside hanging out, nod hello. If there are elderly people and kids around, help them out a bit, talk to them. Small talk can go a long way. The elderly are always welcomed/usually welcoming. They tend to know a majority of who's who and what's going on. 10) DONT LET THEM CATCH YOU SLACKING! 11) help out when you can. Doesn’t have to be money (it's better if it's not). Some extra food you got but can’t eat, maybe a shirt you got on sale, etc. Something small that won’t elude to you having money is best. You still care and wanna help, but know the risks. Wait till someone asks or just give it; don’t ask if they need it, just say you saw it and thought of them or that you can’t fit in it, you got double the order, etc. people still have pride. 12) do not park your car somewhere you can’t see it! Or in someone else’s spot (reserved or not), or by their residence. 13) if there’s a major party going on, lock up all your shit, pull your car into the garage/back/wherever. Threw a party once and my cousin left her purse in her car. We lived off a main road, so someone saw it, tried getting into the other cars, and found hers. Easy pickings! There’s more but you get the gist

O.o
If you are a woman. Alter your schedule around. Keep pepper spray or a gun with you too. If they call you a hoe tell john not today! And keep walking home. Don't let anyone push you around period and don't bother the people or guilt trip them into giving you money when they drop by 7/11 to get their snacks.
Here are my tips as someone who has grown up and lived afterwards in bad neighborhoods : - Don't try to walk around weak or scared and don't try to walk around macho. Just walk around with a serious face and mind your own business - Don't wear jewelry or expensive looking clothes - Avoid walking/passing by areas where u know groups are always hanging or get drunk at night - Try to have a good relationship with the stores and shops in the neighborhood, that goes a long way, I have many stories where these relationships got me out of trouble - You don't lend people money and you don't ask for money - Beware of people spotting you ( they wanna see what you're about, where you live ... etc ) that means you're a candidate for someone to be fucked with - If someone you know is bad news talks to you, try to be confident, respectful, and in a hurry. I always had an excuse of late for work or picking my mother from somewhere. Don't try to be friends, even if they mean you no harm - Don't hang around on the streets, you don't want to be known to everybody. Don't be one of those guys that hangs outside stores or on the phone talking to his girlfriend on the street. - If something does happen, try to defend yourself, and back off carefully to places where there are people around ( this is where good relationship with people from the community comes in, stores, Delhi, shops .... etc ) Two times that happened to me, and people from these stores came out to threaten to call the cops or they knew family of these guys, so they'd back off. That saved my life one of these times. - Carry pepper spray. I know some say it's for women, but if you're not a violent person like me, and you need just time to get out of the situation that could get bad, it's the perfect thing to carry. I didn't use it in the neighborhood, but used it several times coming back from work late. I'd use it and run. - Lock the doors, close the windows, shut the curtains. Always. And never keep money or valuable belongings in the house. I had a post-office safe deposit where I kept my money and family valuables from my grandmother, mother ... etc. It's not expensive to get one, and it takes your mind of off the worry about these stuff getting stolen. - Don't go out when u here shit going on, don't film, keep to your business at all times. If a huge fight is going on next to you, walk like you don't even notice it, you DO NOT want to get involved or be noticed if something bad is happening. - Just be generally smart and trust your instincts. And if you don't have good instincts, just don't trust people you don't know. - Try to get out of that neighborhood like I did, worked 2 to 3 jobs for a period of time, till I managed to make enough money to find a place in a better neighborhood, and that's the best advice, cause sooner or later something will happen. All these are just general tips, and eventually something is bound to happen, so get out.
"check the back seat of your car before getting in" bro thats literally my worst fear, having someone be around me when i don't know it.
Another good tip would be when a stranger knocks at your door and asks for "Jonathan" or whatever random name automatically be on high alert and close the door more. Some do this to look behind your shoulder to see if anyone else is in the house or if you have any obvious valuables lying around. This is how they "scope out" possible places to rob. If you live in the ghetto you should already know too look through the blinds or through the peephole quietly before you unlock the door especially if you are home alone. Don't be careless even if it's a girl because there could be two guys in the car waiting for her report.

Rented an apartment in a bad neighbourhood during school cuz it was all I could afford. Once felt like someone's following me from far back, they definitely were. I took a turn to a different street n heard them follow. Ran after taking the next turn. They started to run after me once they got to the corner but I was already taking another turn and lost them. Definitely not a good idea to let creeps catch up or find out where you live. But all in all you get used to the people around you n just mind your own biz n so will they. Oh and a quick tip - if it's a druggie neighbourhood don't walk on grass with flip-flops or other open/thin footwear cuz needles can blend in with grsss pretty damn well.
With the input about neighborhoods with a "home owners association" it made me aware of the fact that not all "bad" neighborhoods are obvious.

Having grown up in a pretty bad place in Mexico the best advice my dad gave me was to keep loose change or small amount of money in one pocket aside from my wallet. When someone’s gonna rob you they usually act friendly at first (at least where I was at) asking you if you got any spare coins so if you say no right away that whole friendly act gets tossed out the window and that’s when they pull out their knife, gun or whatever they might have. So when they asked me for some money I just gave the small amount of money in the pocket and then they just left me alone. Having been mugged a lot of places not just my neighborhood this trick has helped me out a lot, sometimes though they just jump you in a group or 3-4 guys and take everything you got
There's a couple videos of people getting that guy feeling when out in the woods that someone/something is watching them and it turns out they were being stalked by a mountain lion or whatever, well, that feeling works in bad neighborhoods too. If you get a feeling that something is not right, be it in the woods or in the hood, you're getting it for a reason. Listen to it.

Nobody would ever report them or dare cross them as they were known to make people disappear if they crossed them. Thankfully one day the Police arrest the lot of them and once they were safely in custody everyone in the neighborhood gave enough evidence that that family would never see the outside of a cell again. It's all too easy to judge people for not reporting them to the Police but unless you live in the situation you can never understand. I just thank God each day that I no longer have to live in that environment and my kids never will.

If someone says "aye, what's your shoe size?" The best answer is "My size bro, dont worry."
I had my own apartment for 4 years, right smack dab in the middle of MS13 territory. The former tenants of my apartment (a former family of 5) moved out because the dad and brother of the family got stabbed to death in the apartment (leaving the mom and 2 little sisters). Everybody in the area knew everything about everybody else, so word spread quickly that I was a single woman who lived alone. I had my apartment broken into twice during my first year there, but nothing more than some clothes and shoes was taken because I kept all of my valuables in a storage unit and I took my laptop with me to work every day. How I kept myself safe: I didn't call the cops after the break-ins and so avoided the title of "snitch". I kept a huge, goofy smile on my face at all times and looked everyone in the eyes and said hi to everyone who passed me (but never stopped to talk and always walked like I had someplace to be). I made sure not to dress too nice. I didn't take out my trash or leave my apartment after it got dark out. I pretended I didn't speak Spanish (even though I do) so that it seemed like I had no idea what anyone in the neighborhood was up to. I made sure everyone saw me taking care of the neighborhood's stray cats so I'd have the reputation of the harmless "cat woman" (because every neighborhood has one lol). Lastly, the only people I told anything remotely personal about my life to were the owners of the local corner store (and a lot of those "details" were lies), because they kept the dirt on the whole neighborhood and I knew people (at least in the beginning) were asking them what my deal was. Oh yeah, and I never bought booze or anything less than innocent from that store, nor did I ever use their ATM or any other ATM anywhere close to the neighborhood.

I live in Glasgow, Scotland which can be pretty damn rough. I live in a pretty good area but I tend to ALWAYS end up in the rougher parts of Glasgow either for work or due to the fact that I'm walking through to get somewhere. Best advice is, hood up and try to look tough. The amount of times I've been yelled at from across the road by hood people is insane but i never look at them. I also do this thing where if i'm approaching someone who looks rough, i'll spit on the floor to look like a piece of shit. That tends to help a lot too oddly enough. Never knew I grew up in a bad neighborhood until I was in my teens. I didnt know that other families could actually leave home for hours at a time without fear of being burglarized. Best thing is maintaining situational awareness. Pay attention to that group on the corner or that guy coming from behind you on the sidewalk. Its not about being paranoid or suspicious. Its just about paying attention and spotting situations before they begin to happen.
I live in Brazil, we have a high crime rate, so i know something even living in a middle class neighborhood -Stay to yourself, if you are quiet the chances are robbery are lower - Pay atention to the street, so you can watch any suspect behavior -You can call me racist or anything, but here criminals have a pretty much specific steryotipe, so pay atention to those -Two guys in a motorbike are potential trouble, so watch for it -If you see a motorbike or a car pasaing by for the 3-4th time, get away from there, go to your house, enter a shop, a gas station, anywhere where you wouldn't be alone -If you are out late of night, don't go to far on foot. Here in Brazil lower middle class and middle class neighborhoods are more likely to have robberies and theft then poor neighborhoods, that's because drug lords usually live in these places, so they keep petty criminals way, because, no theft, no robbery, no murder= no police.
I lived in a very rough area of Dallas and went out to a concert. A homeless guy caught my friends and I the second we stepped outta the car and struck up a convo. People from out of the area are avoiding where we are like plauge at this point. Four hours- he earned the rest of the money we had with us that night. Never question your gut, but don't profile someone else either. I know this is an old video, but I'll give some advice just in case anybody sees this. To give you (assuming anybody is reading this) some idea of why I feel comfortable speaking on this, I grew up in a lot of rough areas. In grade school, it was an apartment complex that had the SWAT team show up so often it wasn't even an event if they turned away from our particular building. Then it was an even worse neighborhood just outside of town. South side of Tucson, AZ. South of Valencia, and a good ways west of Mission, for anybody who might actually know the town. This was some time ago, so I can't say what it's like now. Back then, there was enough gunfire in that area that I learned to sleep through it if it wasn't right on my street. There were absolutely drug houses and houses where people chopped up stolen cars walking distance from my house. I walked and drove around in this neighborhood at all hours of the day and night. Never got mugged, stabbed, shot, etc. Almost, a couple times, but it never really happened. A lot of the advice in the video is dead on. The biggest, BIGGEST thing is to be aware of what's happening all around you! Don't walk around with music playing in your ears, don't be staring at your phone... people who grew up in safe places, and went to safe schools, don't get this. You are NOT safe just because you're not trying to cause trouble. Even if a good neighborhood, even in a public place in the middle of the day, realize that you are always a potential target. Your responsibility is to see it coming, and if you can't prevent or avoid it, then you better be able to respond in a way that keeps your ass alive. If you do see someone coming your way, look right at them. Someone in the video said this, and they were right. Make eye contact, make them know you see them, and you aren't afraid to look them in the eyes. Don't stare them down. The point isn't to be the tougher, scarier person. The point is to show you're aware of them, and you aren't afraid of them. Then greet them. A nod. A "Hey, man," or "Hello." It doesn't matter. But greet them. If they greet you back, they probably aren't going to mess with you. If they look away without saying anything, they're rude, but possibly more afraid of you now than you are of them. But if they stare right back at you and don't say a damn thing, don't acknowledge your greeting in any way, get ready for trouble. They're fixated on you, but they aren't registering your attempt to interact with them. That's a problem, and if you're close enough to be greeting them, you're close enough to get physical. Knowing how to fight, with your hands or a weapon, is a big plus. But it isn't necessary, because if you're doing everything right, you usually won't get as far as fighting. When I used to walk around the neighborhood I was growing up in, I carried MULTIPLE knives, in case one got knocked out of my hand, or I couldn't reach it in the moment. Only ever had to flash one once. When I got old enough to buy and carry a handgun, I did. And as was said in the video, it was chambered. The idea of carrying a handgun that isn't immediately ready to be used is foolish. You don't have the time you imagine you're going to have, if you're already to the point of needing that thing. Don't WANT to kill someone, but be damn ready to, because the other guy might be fine with ending your life. Weapons aside, having a good grasp on how to throw a proper punch, and especially a little on how to grapple, can be very good. The most important thing is to have someone else you can practice with. Getting used to the way a person's hips or shoulders move right before they attack can give you the split-second time to respond that you're going to need. But, again... you should be focusing on keeping out of a fight in the first place. In places like this, your foe probably isn't alone, anyway. On that note, try not to be alone if you can avoid it. I usually didn't have a choice. If you are alone, as the video said, look like you know where you are, where you're going, and like you belong in both of those places. Head high, good posture. Exude confidence. Never show fear. Even if a car rolls up beside you at two in the morning, and you can't see through the tinting at who it is, you stare into that window like you're about to unleash hell on whatever fool is on the other side of that glass. When it turns out to be somebody you know, and you just didn't realize it was their car, all the better. (Very real story. Thought I was about to get blasted for no reason...) Be willing to talk, and treat even the most sketchy person like they're your equal. Most people I've come across just ask for a smoke, or to borrow your lighter. Sometimes, at the right time of the day, you might get asked if you're selling, or buying, drugs. For me, this really was just normal. If this isn't normal to you, behave like it is. Don't walk up on people if you don't need to. In neighborhoods like this, people don't trust strangers. You damn sure better not set foot on their property, or touch their cars. You better believe you could get yourself shot or stabbed by screwing with somebody's ride or walking across their lawn in the area I grew up in. Stay on the street, or the sidewalk, if there is one. And do mind your business, but not so much that you don't see somebody walking right up on you. If somebody is doing something sketchy that isn't hurting you or anybody else, leave it alone. You just saw a drug deal, you think? Mind your own damn business. What are you going to do? Walk up on them and lecture them on the evils of narcotics? Call the cops? If nobody is getting robbed, hurt, or killed, leave it the hell alone. I don't know why "lock your doors" needs to be said, but it does. I don't care where you live. As far as your house goes, lock your damn doors. I have since lived in places where people don't do this. Where friends will just walk into each others homes without calling ahead of time. This blew my mind. This would get someone killed where I grew up. It's great that there are still places where people feel this comfortable, but this makes a person such an easy target... As far as locking your car goes... that's up to you. If you want to avoid a smashed window, I get it. This wasn't actually a common issue where I lived. Even though my house was broken into once, and a second attempt was made while we were home, our cars were never robbed. One was broken into, once, by two criminals who had just escaped the police. They hid in the back seats while cops searched the area. Didn't find the guys. This car... we hated this car. It barely ran. We left the keys inside the thing just hoping someone would steal it and get it off our hands. The front doors were unlocked, but the back ones were locked. They never tried the front doors. Never saw the keys. Just busted into a back window and hid out. Finally... be cool with your neighbors. If they're screwing with you, deal with it how you can. But if nobody is bothering you, no matter what you think of them, be cool with them. Say hi in passing. Chat if they try to chat with ya. Don't look down your nose at them, but don't be a nervous, scared mess, either. If you've grown up around this stuff, it eventually just is normal. I didn't think anything of it by the time I was in high school. My friends who visited my neighborhood thought I lived in a war zone. Likewise, I go to nice, calm areas, and I can't wrap my head around how soft and trusting people are. Guys... the world is dangerous. It's unfortunate, but it's true. Watch out for what's going on around you. Understand that help isn't just a phone call away. It's a phone call, plus the response time away. Until that moment, it's all on you. Be safe. And if you can't be safe, be deadly.

Well, I like running, people usually see me jogging around the neighborhood at night (that's the only time I have for myself and everybody around here knows me, so I compliment everybody I pass through, know the right places to pass and avoid the bad ones). So, be a nice neighbor, if they know your routine and you are a nice person they like, there will be someone watching you everywhere to make sure you are safe. They are nice people, the problem is that they have hard lifes. If you were in their condition when you were a kid, it's very likely you would be just like them today. Edit2: If you're a kid and you are lost, talk with a prostitute. They'll help you.
Tried that and got flashed gang signs
@•Kitsune Chan• yeahhhhhh they'd probably help me with a stray boner but that's it
Dont snitch, be polite and be happy to give a coin to the druggie that asks for one.
Posers
Lex60 Or even better: Get them Mango Pods, I Gave a Group Some and They Istantly defined me as the cool guy. They asked if I wanted some But I said “No, I Have Asthma. Thanks for the offer though.”
u not from the hood then💀💀
When you said coin I thought you meant jail time but then I realized ._.
Dont hang with crack heads, snitching only applies to people who play the game. Bad advice and you never lived in the hood if you think that.
Literally everyone: Number 1 rule is to just mind your own business. u/medic8388: Minding your own business is absolutely the WORST thing you can do.
Yea it’s an EMS meme because everyone who ever gets assaulted claims “I was minding my own business and got my shit rocked by some dude!” Lol
Keegan Hadel maan I was jus’ mindin ma own business and this guy shot me I ain’t even do nothin
Bacon Bitz lmao yup
Mind everyone’s business but your own😂
The Zoo exactly!
My mom taught me to lock doors. It became such a habit, when we would bring groceries in the house I would normally be the first one in and lock my family outside and be completely oblivious. Good habit tho
there are some archetypes of trouble makers, its usefull to keep track of them: scammers: they will try to iniate and prolong conversations, using every trick possible, their main objetive its not leting the conversation ends, even beyond what is socialy acceptble, if you end the conversation in any way that can pass as disrpectful they wont get really offended, but will act like they are to make you apologize and prolong the conversation, so act like "sorry man! im in too late for something", manufacture confidence, extrovertion, and real hurryness pure robbers: robbers are in for the business, and long careers, they pick their targets carefully, the job is risky enough, they will prefer targets that will show less resistence, troube, so act like you in a hurry, that you are confident, and that you are familiarized with the neighborhood, because this sinalize three things: hurry = its dificult to close the distance with you without looking strange, and call to much attention confident = you know how to throw some resistance, give the risky that even bein restrained you can hurt them too looking familiarized with the neighborhood = if they rob you, and dont kill you (what they really dont want because the risk reward relationship is too unbalanced) police will get involved and you have a good chance to recgonize them mad dogs = they are just bored and want some thrills through violence, really unstable people, all engament with them will scalate because they want it, the best way to deal with them is not even showing in their radar, dont be noise, or lousy, dont attract uncessary attention, RED FLAG: be cautious with the girls you talk, or flirt, the hoods are horrible places to flirt mad dogs robbers = these archetype is the one that i think are more dangerous to cause problems, they have two incentives, the thrill of violence and looting, they combine the worst aspects of mad dogs and pure robbers, theres no much to do if you get caught in a mess with them, unless you are armed and ready to kill, the only way for average people to deal with them is avoiding engagment, dont put your self in vulnerable situations, be aware of the surroundings gang members: gang members are first and foremost business people, from a very stressfull field, they will always be on edge, they have enemies, and business field hazards, and their business operations are dangerous, so they are alway alert, they will never engage you if you dont threat their business, if you see they conducting business GET THE FUCK OUT OF THERE, dont acknolodge any information, dont look their faces, dont look in their direction, show that you dont want to have anything with them, that you are not a problem to be concerned, dont be the concerned citzien, dont even touch your phone around them, make efforts to dont know anything about them, and show that you are doing these efforts, like if someone start to talk about them avoid the subject, end the conversation and stop talking with this person who talks too much but i said all this considering you are just the average person living in the hood, if you have a business in the hood, like a shop, or gas station, or a restaurant which its location overlap with gang activities territory they might bring the trouble to your business so invest in safety, make robbing you, or intimidating you too troublesome to be worth it as everything in this life its all a relationship of risk reward, make messing with your be much more riskier than rewarding
My grandparents live in one of the richer parts of Jamaica, and it gets pretty wild there. They have a high fence and gate, multiple deadbolts on every door, a state-of-the-art CCTV system, and guard dogs. This still didn’t stop them from getting robbed or their neighbors from getting hanged in their own home. Those kinds of stories make me glad that I didn’t grow up in a place where having money makes you a target.
I’ve lived in “bad neighborhoods” basically my whole life so I’ll give some advice 1.) always keep your car/front/back (and maybe side) doors locked no matter if you just running in & out, day or night KEEP THE DOORS LOCKED 2.) if you see someone that looks crazy either walk past them and don’t acknowledge them, if they say something to you say “no thank you” or ignore it. If you have a really bad feeling about it don’t turn around like you’re avoiding them turn around like you left something. 3.) don’t throw up any gang signs when walking outside unless you ready to bang it out (fight or shoot) 4.) JUST BECAUSE YOU LIVE THERE DOESNT MEAN YOUR FROM THERE!! If people ask where you’re from or “what you bang” you’re best bet is to ignore them or say you don’t know what that means 5.) dont walk with you’re phone out especially if it’s a nice one, if you do grip it tight and walk with keys sticking out from in between your fingers Incase someone tries to rob you 6.) when you see someone on the street don’t make eye contact, if you make eye contact and ignore them they’ll either walk up to you or get angry and either assault you or damage your car 7.) (I don’t do this a lot because I’ve gotten so used to it that I can gage if the shots are dangerously close or far enough for me to be safe) DUCK OR RUN IF YOU HEAR GUN SHOTS 8.) I can’t really give you advice on this but just know the difference between firecrackers and gunshots 9.) don’t go into random corner stores if you don’t know the area and what gang it’s affiliated with 10.) don’t go out at night unless you’re with a big group, know you’re surroundings and wear you’re going, or if you’re armed 11.) STAY ARMED AT ALL TIMES I’d say keep a small pocket knife
I'd say don't ignore the crazy people, unless they seem schizophrenic or something. Sometimes they'll go after you because they think that you're spying on them or you're evil in their eyes.
Good points but the only things I'd say is don't have your keys in your hand, getting a good grip on all of them between your fingers is difficult and you could hurt yourself in this way. A single key is probably better, held like a knife. Oh and about knives. The majority of knife fights result in both parties getting cut... A lot. If you carry a knife, prepare to be cut...
I come from a relatively safe country and this is eye opening
And if someone is trying to attack act like your crazy it works sometimes
Usually, gunshots don't echo as much ...but yeah,in such place it's kinda hard to distinguish them
I use to make jokes with some guys of a local gang and always kept them entertained. Its saved my life twice, first time was in high school and me and my friends got off the public bus and was confronted by the local gang. Once I was recognized we were let go and there were no issues. Second time was a friend of mine beat up a local drug dealer, the drug dealer retaliated by hiring a gang to go deal with my friends and anyone nearby. Well I was told a head of time and I went home while there was a shoot out. Luckily no one was hurt but a few people went to jail and i stopped associating myself with all of those people.
One time I travelled to Mexico with my family because a relative passed away. This was at the height of violence in Mexico. I was in high school, freshman. Well crossing through the checkpoints you kept seeing Mexican soldiers with machine guns and assault rifles adding to my anxiety. My family visited a salon and I decided to man up and go to the convenience a store for some snacks. I was so nervous and psyched out from telling myself “act normal, act normal bro. Just act normal” that I must have looked all kinds of whacked out. Sweating, nervous, eyes all over the place.
In 13:23 this guy is giving recommendations if you do move out of the hood. And I got a couple to add. Don’t act hyper vigilant because chances are, you look suspicious and that’s a 911 call. Park in your driveway or garage and not on the side of the road because if they’re doing construction or clearing snow that’s a ticket or a tow. Read up on the home owners association rules, so you don’t get yourself in trouble. Invite that old white lady to your cookout because if she can see you and the people you hang out with she might be less inclined to call the cops. And the most important of them all, talk your neighbors. It maybe something as simple has hello or good morning but maybe they’ll be nicer back.
Even better, don't move somewhere with a HOA. I've never heard of a HOA that wasn't a massive pain in the ass for everyone under their "jurisdiction," the idea of keeping property values up is nice but in practice you don't want to give that responsibility to the kind of people that would even bother to run a HOA.
I’d rather deal with police than some hoodlum with a gun because at least with one of them you’ll make it out alive
This HOA sounds worse than the ghetto. Sounds like people can't handle there own problems like adults. Dusted a car for fingerprints? That's fucking ridiculous, in my neighborhood if you call the police they interogate you like you're the criminal. Although the police have been friendlier since Tulsa got exposed on Terrence Crutcher.

All I did was read the title and immediately thought to myself, "Mind yo damn business." And that was the first piece of advice lmaoo I said out loud, "See, that person from the hood, they know! " lmfaooo best thing u could do is mind your damn business and keep it moving. Avoid dangerous situations if at all possible (traveling alone after dark, safer routes, be polite, only speak when necessary, keep a neutral expression, low profile).
I grew up in Memphis Tn, mind your buisness, don't look at nobody, someone talks to you, be chill. Carry a gun.
Little tip my dad gave me when I was younger. If you’ve been kidnapped and they are taking you to a second location, fight like hell and don’t stop. Whatever they’ll do to you when fighting back, is probably gonna be better than what they’ll do to you at the second location.
I live in south Africa, Cape Town and I frequently go between town and my home. It's amazing how oblivious tourists get to being scammed, robbed or hurt. The beggars never look you in the eyes. They look at your bags and pockets. It's kind of sad how you've got to pretend everyone is your enemy until they show themselves to be a friend.
Try to live in top floor if you’re in an apartment, you’d be the least likely to get robbed
I lived in the top floor of the apartment complex, we never had anyone trying to break in. Of course, we would have been screwed if a fire had ever occured.
Katie Frank buy some parachutes
That’s what my dad did when I was staying with him. His friend got robbed on the bottom floor but we didn’t luckily because I was 13.
Not necessarily. Some Appartments have big terraces on the last floor with bigger flats. This means that these inhabitants are wealthier AND if you can access the roof or the neighbouring terrace, then you can break in from the window, or less secure terrace door (I´ve seen plenty of glass doors even in bad places). Moreover, people in the upper floors often leave windows unattended even when completely open. The floor just below would be safer as hardly anyone would play spiderman and dangle from a rope...
@@edi9892 Second floor here. Can confirm. Only drawback is that our balcony/sliding glass door is right beside the stairwell and therefore accessible. Hence keeping it double-locked always...
I get so mad thinking about these types of bad areas. Unfortunately people are too into drugs and violence. It’s sad that these rules have to be said anyway.
3:11 when I was a kid having some issues with knucklehead bullies I was recommended to keep a mouth guard in my pocket at all times and when somebody started to act aggressive just pull out the mouth guard and stick it in and basically start bouncing back and forth like a madman. Never tried it but something tells me it might work in a lot of cases.
