  • Im trying to overcome an awful depression where i feel pretty much horrible, i constantly feel like my own death wouldn't mean a thing to anyone, like im just not enough for myself or to face my future and i swear i dont want this anymore and im trying so hard but it feels like climbing Celeste, every day. Want to know the worst of all? Im a perfectly functional and extremely fun person, everyone loves my personality and im pretty good at what i do (I'm a historian and history teacher), and this makes me feel sick, angry and makes me hate myself more because everytime i tell someone that i constantly feel awful, lonely and scared they just don't believe it because "people that suffer depression are in their beds crying". Then i started playing Celeste and had the first conversation with Theo and i saw Madeline being an absolutely nice person with no problems when she talks to a total stranger, even sharing pics, i felt nice for a second, and the music gave me so much chills. I studied music when i was a teen so i sat at my piano and started to learn the songs and the effects from the soundtrack, now i reconnected with my old love for music thanks to this game and it helps me to think about something else than hating myself and feeling disgusted and sick about myself. I don't know if anyone reads the whole thing but let me tell you, if you are going through something like this, like me... Let's just try for a bit more, maybe we will end up reaching the top of the mountain. And i say maybe cause i haven't reached it yet, but i want to, i really want to, and i want you to make it too :)

    • Everything in life, everything that we experience makes us what we are. The only one in this world that can truly solve your inner problems is you and you only. But then again, from my experience, i believe that people that have pulled through the thick fog of depression are way more complete beings that those who had led lifes without much emotional struggle. The only thing i can do for you is to try to soothe your pain at which i say you check out the "Golden mix" playlist on my channel. I hope that through the music that i have gathered together that you will try to reflect upon your life and reach a desirable conclusion. Remember that the greatest battles that we have to fight through are against ourselves Stay safe and have a good one! P.S.:Do tell me if the playlist isn't showing for you.I remember making it public but who knows...If it isn't showing i will recommend you a list of albums to check out.

    • I feel you man. I have a chronic depression and while mine isn't entirely functional at the worst stages I can certainly relate most of the time. Best thing in my experience was to honestly and openly discuss it with a close friend and just talk through the whole thing. If they accept it as part of you then you have a leg to stand on if the darkness comes. If they don't accept it, yeah, not worth it to be friends anymore. Imo.

As someone who suffers from depression and anxiety this helped me in a weird way that I wasn't expecting and the music was a huge part of it. That rockin' tune when you're chasing down goth Madeline and attacking her until she has no where to run is so cathartic, and relaxing in those quiet places along the mountaintop were serene. • This game honestly changed my life for the better. The soundtrack hits so deep and sadly, it will go over most players' head, but no, not me. I'm going through (Or, I was.) a tough time and I could really relate to the main characters (Madeline) mentality, though, what I couldn't relate to was the part of overcoming ones fear. However, that changed, a lot in fact, after playing through this game. I felt complete and I finally accepted myself. The game also tells a magnificent story visually; being Badeline. She's the dark side of Madeline, her anxiety, basically. She always tries to catch up you in the game, just like my fear in real life, and I could relate a bunch, which just puts this masterpiece higher in my favourite video games list. I even relate to Madeline a lot myself, I'm short, introverted and my self confidence is low too. Heck, I even have red hair. I really went off point, didn't I? Heh. Anyways, what I really related to the most was that I felt complete and determined after an adventure, the adventure being this masterpiece. Even 2 years later, I still come back to this soundtrack when stressed. It's crazy how Lena managed to create such a touching soundtrack that just adds to this masterpiece/adventure of a game. Thank you so, so much Lena and the Celeste development team. You helped through a really dark time in my life and I will be forever grateful. Sincerely, Sarah

Not just a wonderful game in EVERYWAY but that story telling is beyond great mann... Timeless it is. We all have a deep emotional human struggle going on inside of us and this game brings it out and isn't afraid to confront what we're all scared of. How you can be your own worst enemy sometimes and how you should deal with that moving forward. It gives us strength to push forward. Not just a fun game.

  • I'm one type of guy that doesn't enjoy games that easy. When a game is uninventive, generic or repetitive the game is not fun. I find myself not enjoying games that most gamers are enjoying just because it's not that PERFECT you know? So when I say that Celeste is a perfect game that means that it is a perfect game. I usually respect other people's opinions but when someone dislikes Celeste I just consider him a guy who doesn't see quality in videogames. The game's visuals are simplistic so making you engaged and immersed would need a professional composer, and god dammit did Lena Raine do the best ost I've ever heard. Celeste is a perfect example of a flawless game. The story is so good that you might learn something or two from. So deep and brings in panic attack stuff and makes you FEEL out of breath and you have to press X/A/B or whatever your sexual preference is and the soundtrack would get calmer. The moment where the game really got me was chapter 4 when golden was playing. There's like 1 minute of dialogue with the grandma and then play the chapter. Well the chapter function like every other chapter in the game but lacks dialogue and story but what it captured was how Madeline was feeling... Self doubt, determination, stubbornness but still going on. The background music would change depending on how fast the wind is going. The art style and the visuals are so simple yet so beautiful. Also the characters are so deep and have an interesting back story. Celeste is one of the hardest games I've ever played but also one of the least rage inducing to me. There isn't any plenty when losing, checkpoints are so frequent, when you die you don't feel like you died... You feel like you did a mistake. Then you try again and improvise. Just play the fucking game

  • This game is beautifully done. I could go on and on about... say... the realistic portrayal of the effects of anxiety and depression, or the Chapter 6 conversation between Theo and Madeline which is one of the most human conversations I've seen in a video game, or maybe its amazing soundtrack, but honestly, I want to talk about game design. I don't play many platformers, so I can't compare it to much else. Closest thing to that that I HAVE played was Hollow Knight, a metroidvania game which I hold a similar place in my heart for. The platforming wasn't nearly as difficult as Celeste's though, but the strange thing was that Celeste's platforming felt more lively, and welcoming. Not to say Hollow Knight had bad platforming and parkour design. It still did those things amazingly. It just had a different focus than Celeste. Celeste's platforming introduces you to four core mechanics (running, jumping, climbing, and dashing) and then throws them all around in the most amazing possible ways. Starting off in Chapter 1, you learn about platform activation and momentum through the use of propelling yourself off of conveyor belt blocks. Chapter 2 teaches you that some hazard blocks (like the star blocks) can replenish your dash, while also forcing you to react quickly and learn how to lay out a correct path during the Badeline chase. Chapter 3 goes for a difficulty spike, being a longer and more challenging level. Throughout this one you learn about timing, and using the environment to your advantage. Chapter 4 has more air time, putting pressure on your playstyle and forcing you to make even quicker reactions, building off of momentum and timing mechanics learned in Chapters 1 and 3. When you start Chapter 5, it teaches you to use your dashes precisely with the use of dash-activated platforms and bubbles that can only be deactivated by dashing out of them. Upon entering the Mirror, you start dealing with dynamic obstacles, in the form of the Seekers. Theo's carrying section helps you adapt to having your moveset limited. Chapter 6 wraps this all up and gives you the practice to weave around obstacles with immense speed. All of this in preparation for Chapter 7, taking everything you've ever learned, pushing it to the very limit for a satisfactory finish, watching the sunset at the Summit. And not once do you feel like you're truly angered or struggling. This is because of the game's way of taking death and turning it from a grave mistake in a gamer's journey, to a mild inconvenience that as the game itself says, helps *improve* rather than hurt. No death screen, no annoying walk to your death point, no "YOU DIED" message. Just, boom, and then zip. You're back at the start of the room you were in. It helps you learn quickly, and never feel like truly quitting. I can't remember getting any rage-ier in this game than one time in Chapter 7 where I was really close to the end of the 2000M subchapter and said "NOOOO!" and then immediately continued. It's almost impossible to get mad at this game's amazing design. And so yeah, I just beat the game, and wanted to express my love for it. TL;DR Each chapter's gimmick teaches you an important lesson about the mechanics of the Mountain, and dying is poggers, rage-ing is nonexistent.

  • My favorite track out of all of these is Anxiety. You can hear the anxiety taking over her in the form of the heavy synth overpowering the piano. It’s great

    • There's a tune that sticks throughout most of the songs in Celeste, it's like subtle darkness attached to every piece lurking around the corner, but one that you know has always been there.. example at 9:13-10:00 Also 7:00 AND 10:35 start respectively and you get absolutely blown away by the perfection of it

  • When I am writing, it feels like climbing a mountain. There are moments where I feel despair, relief, joy, terror, resentment, hate, love, and calmness. Thus, it is logical that I should listen to a matching soundtrack. Glad to have something to listen to to help me with my assignments.

    • This is the darkest track of the game. The lowest point for Madeline because her friend has been taken because of her, she had to go into the ruins because she didn’t speak up, the the full impact of her anxiety entity is in full force with the only enemy in the game chasing her everywhere. Truly terrifying and dark. Love it

  • Never played the game or heard the music before. Someone recommended this in the comments of another soundtrack and I figured why not... (like a lot of others here, I'm piling through some boring paperwork). 4 tracks deep and I'm considering taking a trip over to Bandcamp. That's quite the effect, Lena. Maybe it's just because of what I'm doing alongside, but, yknow, it's not like that stuff ever goes away.

    • An hour and a half of this on top of a 45 minute best-of-2022 chiptune compilation has kept me just from the edge of insanity whilst dealing with something brain twisting and annoying (lots of missing and/or contradictory information etc...) at a new job, earbuds in, last one in the office. It autoplayed without me doing anything, but the algorithm managed a W for once. It just hits right. Going to have to resist the urge to let the last 10 minutes play out even though I really, really need to go home now the immediately urgent bit of the mess is dealt with.

  • This is one of the best music soundtracks from a video game that I have heard in a long time. The music is so artistic and relaxing, helping me stay focused when I need to and also appreciate the thought behind the pieces, letting my mind wander. My favorite is Scattered and Lost; it has such a cool vibe and so many parts. Also, Celeste is a great game. : )
