She Put Needles in My Face To Fix My Broken Jaw

I got acupuncture for the first time and here's what happened! In order to fix my jaw, which has some kind of fracture or growth that is causing TMJ clicking and locking, I decided to try acupuncture, aka putting needles into my face. It's a traditional Chinese treatment and it really helped relieve the pain.
Dr. Gao is currently available for treatments by contacting Qing Lotus Spa:
Qing Lotus Spa 磬和堂·九五指压
35-12 Prince St, Queens, NY 11354
But she'll be opening her own place soon!

  • TMJ stands for "temporomandibular joint" in your jaw and not actually what the problem is. Most individuals confuse this for TMD. You're having issues with TMD which is known as "Temporomandibular Disorder" and it is 100% treatable! Don't let doctors tell you there is no treatment which is total BS. Most people are unaware, but Physical Therapy is prescribed for this quite often. You can find Physical Therapists that will specialize specifically for TMD. Keep using acupuncture to help ease the pain, but please do yourself a favor and look up a local PT that can treat your symptoms. It will not only strengthen your jaw but also decrease the joint discomfort you are experiencing and potentially get rid of it entirely.

    • PLEASE DO NOT KEEP DOING ACUPUNCTURE, there have been numerous cases in which it has hit a nerve and caused even more chronic pains and in the face it can potentially paralyze some muscles, this doesnt work any better than placebo, and due to this not being a proper medical treatment its possible that needles dont get sterilized properly and with strep A infections going around causing people to loose life and limb to necrotizing fasciitis (nightmare fuel of a bacterial infection that rots your limbs to the bone necessitating amputation), please use evidence based treatments with proper scientific papers as a backing and dont go through random improperly tested surgeries for potentially less of an effect than essential oils, and an equivalent outcome to something like chiropractors (who have broken people's necks and killed people) or homeopathy.

    • TMD will often resolve itself. Especially if somebody younger is reading and experiencing this, it's common while you're still growing. Being mindful of it (avoid clicking/popping) and doing some "TMJ exercises" daily goes a long way.

    • Physical and Occupational Therapy are REAL medicine. These people have extensive medical training like doctors and nurses. I have had some astonishing results from acupuncture but it’s no substitute for evidence based medicine. Avoid all chiropractors, they are the worst of the worst. Physical therapy is life changing if you do the work.

    • @@AnthemUnanthemed Do some research on the efficacy of acupuncture then. It is safe, it is effective, when done by someone who is properly trained. Many medical professionals do acupuncture as an additional therapy. You are going into worst case scenario with probably minimal research or experience. As with ANY medical treatment there is a possibility of side effects or malpractice. Acupuncture is covered by insurance in many states in the US which means it has been deemed safe and effective as a treatment for many different ailments. The Doctors who do acupuncture often go to school for 4+ years just for that let alone most of them are NDs, DOs, Chiropractors, Integrative medicine specialists, and yes, even MDs who have to do additional years for their basic schooling and advanced specialties. You want evidence based treatments? Acupuncture has been used for 3000 years. It might not be safe for everyone, and that's okay. Nothing is truly safe for everyone. But for many many people, acupuncture is a life saver and has saved them from years of chronic debilitating symptoms. "Evidence" based treatment studies are primarily payed for by the companies producing the treatments, with their own team of scientists, if you think they're unbiased I feel sorry for you. If you cant see for yourself why someone would prefer a treatment that doesn't use medications or invasive procedures and has been used and researched countless times for thousands of years, you have absolutely no right to tell another person what is the right treatment for their body and their conditions.

  • I had acupuncture for years, and had no allergy issues while I was getting that treatment. For anyone who is unaware, an acupuncture needle is only 1/10th the thickness of a regular needle, so you can barely tell they are there. That's why Xiaoma kept asking if the needles were there. They don't hurt at all, and I often felt it working on me almost immediately; I would have nasal congestion, and within about 15 seconds after getting a few needles inserted, I could feel the congestion draining out of my nose down my throat. It was amazing!

    @coloraturaElise@coloraturaElise3 ай бұрын
    • they do hurt lol, especially in the foot... 80% don't hurt but 20% are inconvenient. It probably also hurts more if you have more muscles and low body fat.

    • @@gabrielgerhard9122I’ve noticed that it’s more uncomfortable at the beginning of treatment…for example if you’re starting a protocol for allergies, the first few sessions might be more uncomfortable because there is so much for the body to work on/get rid of. As the sessions go on, the 3rd or 4th maybe, it gets easier because, using my allergy example, the sinuses are less full & thus the needles aren’t as uncomfortable. Although, when I would get treated for migraines, that was always a little more uncomfortable with every treatment since I would have a migraine each time. Otherwise, I typically don’t feel them except maybe on insertion.

    • You might want to consider consulting a clinic specializing in treating TMJ wholesomely. Often times the problem is largely related to... your tongue. I dealth with clicking, swellings and pain for more than a decade and last year I went through a procedure called frenectomy proceeded and followed by a set of physical therapy sessions with speech therapist. Having done all of that the clicking and swellings are gone. I can reasonably eat and chew the way I used to in my youth and my problems are largely in the past.

  • Try Orthotropics. It actually changed my jawline. Bone in roof of my mouth used to be lower with large indents either side. Now it's more even. You can only try it for yourself.

  • i’ve never tried acupuncture but i always thought the needles were so tiny that you couldn’t feel them at all going in. So do you think you will do it again? did you truly think you benefited from it? I have a lot of of issues with my hands and feet going numb due to degenerative disc disease in my spine and always wondered if acupuncture would help but it looks very intimidating tbh lol

  • It is a common problem, a splint/retainer at night and Botox in the TMJ area will make it go away.

  • I've had Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction for a while now, I find myself most days in a bad habbit of opening and closing my jaw which only worsens it. Some days I get bad tension headaches because of all the movement. Have a mouthguard to sleep at night because I was grinding my teeth or clenching during the night. I open and close, move side to side to releave a position of the jaw that feels odd. I went to the Hospital about it, got scans etc done and they prescribed me Amitriptyline which is a muscle relaxant but also anti-axiety medication. I had bad experiences with that though. Saw a shadow figure of "The Hatman" but he looked like a person, pushing down on my shoulders. I woke up with tingling in both arms, sweat dreanched sheets. Felt like it was the damn reaper but honestly felt so real....had some slight sleep paralasis following that. I remember sitting up in bed pushing him away shouting/thinking NO! Like it wasn't my time to go haha.. Not a good time at all. Stopped taking that immediately and just live with it now many years later.

  • I have had a TMJ surgery, and it didn't work and messed up my septum in my nose. They fixed the top roof of my mouth (a plate) to force reposition of my bottom jaw. I regret it. My nose is asymmetrical now. And my septum in my nose pinches off one of my nostrils making it hard to breathe.

  • I've been having jaw problems for over 15 years now. Last 6 years I have terrible headaches and constant pressure on my head. I haven't been able to work and pretty much live ever since. I did acupuncture in my head and jaw as well. Didn't help.

  • My TMJ acted up in September. Find a registered massage therapist who does TMJ messages. That was my biggest relief. I also used a mouth guard to help reposition my jaw. I went from only being able to open my mouth a 1/4” back to normal opening in 3 months.

  • Orthodontic treatment for people with overbite and physical therapy helps a subset of patients. Some claim mewing helped them and there are enough before and after videos to prove it makes changes to that area. The problem is that mewing hasn't been sufficiently studied and validated. So the risk/benefit ratio isn't certain.

  • You can also try dry needling for the jaw. Its like accupuncture but instead of leaving the needles in the person is going to turn it so that the muscles in your jaw start to relax. Its painful in the beginning because the muscle is full of tension en protest until it gives up and relaxes then its not painful anymore. But having pain all the time from these muscles suddenly feeling this pain that is different than normal knowing that is relaxes after makes it even wanting to feel that pain because then you know it really helps.

  • May be should see an orthodontist, clenching of teeth doe to stress or a misalign bite, also having sensitive teeth or cavities can make patient to chew in a way that can produce pain on the jaw articulation.

  • I have the same issue and have had for about 12 years. I've got Joint Hypermobility Syndrome so my joints tend to move around more than for other people, from just very little to no pressure or by just actually relaxing my muscles. That's when I get all sorts of issues. If you haven't tried it already, try moving your pillow around slightly more to one side than the other so it's not centered when you sleep. You might notice that one side of the jaw is more predominant in power and response when you chew or move it around - it's less restricted and doesn't click. You may have to switch this up and have your pillow on each side every 2 nights just to ensure a cycling between the two sides so one doesn't lock up again. I honestly do also believe it has to do with the digestion system in the end. I tried the carnivore diet for 3 weeks to begin with and I felt like I was rid of all these problems all of a sudden. Then I started cheating on the diet back and forth for a long time but I've had multiple periods where I've felt fine and not had these issues but it's honestly mostly been during the disciplinary periods of the carnivore diet. Might be worth checking out. Hope you get well soon buddy, thanks for all the great content!
