Usually with Toho, as long as I don’t run unedited footage for longer than a few secs I’m fine. But as I’m learning and from talking to others, WB goes scorch earth. They will jump on you for even a few seconds of edited footage.

    • if I had to guess it's most likely because the video gets flagged as having movie footage but because of the 2 and a half hour run time of the video the bot or real person or whatever just assumes it's the whole movie and takes it down without looking further. Obviously it's still bullshit and should be disputed but I'm just guessing that's the reason this video is having more problems

  • Man, I remember the release of this film like it was yesterday. The hype was INSANE, and while the film itself didn't quite live up to my expectations, I still have fond memories of that time and being excited for a new American interpretation of Godzilla in theaters.

    @Cinematic.Jurassic@Cinematic.JurassicАй бұрын
    • After 1998, my expectations were on the floor, so I loved this one. Sure, I bitched a little about the Godzilla screen time (though it's almost the same as the 1954 original movie in terms of sheer length of time onscreen), and the wooden human characters, but goddammit those were small, petty complaints and I still love this movie, just watched it again after Bill posted the first version of this video.

      @arthurreid6108@arthurreid6108Ай бұрын
    • I already knew it was gonna be better than the '98 movie based on the Godzilla design alone - plus based the amazing trailers, I was expecting something haunting and epic. The movie only gets extra points because Godzilla fights a monste (which I wasn't expecting). In hindsight, the movie probably would have been better had it just been a solo Godzilla movie since the lack of monster action and constant teasing backfires on the director since the final fight as a whole is nothing to write home about and kinda underwhelming after the film hypes it up as much as it does.

  • Man I'm sorry Big Action Bill, this video is so good it must be so frustrating that WB keeps taking it down. I commented on the original video about a sorta re-write that I think would fix some of the issues with the movie. I'll do it again but I'll keep it short. I have two pitches, 1. Joe dies but a tad later, and 2. Joe makes the credits. But before that, I have one extra scene addition to go over... - This hypothetical scene would take place right after the opening credit. We open with the people of the Philipines, a few of them are discussing the miners and the work they are doing, and how it just feels off, and how they may be responsible for the earthquake that took place a few hours earlier. we would then cut to a young child, watching the waves in the stormy night, they notices something in the water and they go to tell their parents. It's a rainy stormy night so we don't really see what is out there, but whatever it is makes landfall, and passes over the mountains. We only really see glimpses and shiloettes, maybe a quick shot with flashing lightning, something is curious about the recent events. Then the movie would cut to the next day and Serizawa/Monarch arriving. everything remains unchanged exept Serizawa sees some footprints along the island. This new 2-3 minute scene would do a few things to benifit the film. It would give the Audience and screenwriters what they want, Godzilla right away without revealing him fully. It also serves as a slight homage to the 54 film and establishes Godzilla as activeley aware of the M.U.T.O, he's not hunting it yet as its radioactive signature is too small at the moment. Establishing Godzilla like this would also help fix the whole "Oh btw Godzilla is in this movie, here he is now!" delema, as he sorta just shows up literally out of the blue, at least now his been set up as at least awake and aware of the change. The rest of the film plays out the same, up until the moment Joe dies, here's where my 2 pitches come in. 1. Joe dies, just a bit later. So here Joe survives his incounter with the MUTO, and actually learns about Godzilla, something I think was a huge mistake in the final film. He tags along with Ford, but being he isn't a military man, sorta holds him back. He's there with Ford on the monorail, and goes with Ford during the train scene. Here he is killed off by the Female MUTO. This would set up Ford wanting revenge of sorts in the final act, one MUTO killed his mom, the other his dad, and now they both threaten his remaining family. We would get a bit more Joe, and set up Ford more so he isn't so bland. But I think the 2nd pitch is better 2. Joe makes the credits. In this pitch, after the male MUTO wakes up and Joe is injured, Joe stays with Monarch on the S.S. Saratoga to recover and learn more about the MUTO and Godzilla while also giving some information and theorys of his own. Everything with Ford stays the same, maybe add a small scene with Ford and Joe having a small fight as Joe still refuses to move on despite knowing the truth now. Ford says his goodbyes to Joe and tells him he is going to to do exactly what Joe said, he's going to keep his family safe. Not too many extra scenes are needed here, just some interaction between Joe and Serizawa. Joe does and learns all he can, but he sorta has closure, FFord was right, he knows what happened to his wife and why. He realises his priority now is his own family, he needs to move on. With the help of the Admeral, he learns of Fords location and sets out to locate him. His son is putting himself in the direct path of these monsters, and Joe with his new found drive sets out to save his son. Joe reunites with Ford shortly after the train attack scene and the two together do the halo jump. It's such a beautiful scene, and it would show how much both characters are there for eachother, if they are willing to jump from a plane together. Now if you don't buy into Joe being able to do that, you could just as easily have him arrive in the city with the military, and reunite with Ford in the city. Joe's going in while everyone else is evacuating. Ether way, both men are in the city and working together. The rest of the movie plays out the same, though I'd actually have Joe blow up the MUTO nest while Ford and the others move the bomb to the boat. You could have a nobel sacrifice here but if Ford lives in the scene then so can Joe. Godzilla kills the MUTOs, Ford, El, Sam AND Joe share an embrace at the stadium, as a complete family. I think the second pitch would fix a few issues with the film, it would make us care more for the human drama, we would want to see this family come together again after splitting at the end of the first act. It's also thematically fun, as the MUTOS are also trying to build a family. The human drama would be less boring and even have some drive behind it. with these small changes we effectiveley give the audience and screenwriters what they want first up without spoiling anything and setting up the tone. We also keep the human story from growing stale.

I was appointed by him to be Co-Producer of Godzilla vs Deathla to the Max and also Co-Producer alongside with Kenji Okuhira and Brian Rogers of Godzilla 3D to the Max. In my 2020 interview with Brett Homenick, I provide a link to the Internet Archive of the official Godzilla 3D to the Max website which documents this. In the Summer 2022 issue of G-Fan, I provide the entire story of my involvement with Yoshimitsu Banno. Again many thanks for your professional journalistic approach to all of this.

  • Thanks for this awesome documentary/ retrospective on the beginning of Godzilla's modern age and the birth of the Monsterverse! I really enjoyed every minute of it and learned a lot about the creation of the film! I had actually forgotten that Gareth Edwards was the director of this film, and after watching The Creator, I can say that while Edwards makes some very beautiful films on a visual, detail, and technical level, he's usually too eager to subvert expectations for the sake of subversion that it comes at the cost of the story, characters, and enjoyment of the film watching experience. Also, his insistence on characters looking sad and pensive as the way to sell human drama and "seriousness" is over used and results in weak characters. Still I do enjoy this take on Godzilla, and thought it was a great way to revive him after FInal Wars and have enjoyed everything we've gotten since!

Mind you I was a little kid at the time and wasn’t fully aware of who the big G really was. SDCC 2013, the Godzilla Encounter reveals a look at this new design and I was scared of it… which means I was HOOKED. • So, finally, after many MANY re-watchings of your entire "History of..."-videos I will leave a comment regarding Godzilla (2014). First, I hugely enjoy your style. Most of the history of this movie was already known to me, so there wasn't a huge new ton of information for me, but your style in narrating and the occasional joke really made my night (yes, it's 1:49 in the morning). And the second is just a general thing about the MonsterVerse, namely that, when I got into the MonsterVerse, I was looking at the release of Godzilla: King of the Monsters and really had my troubles to differentiate it from Toho's Universe, most likely do to Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah. But anyways, keep up your great and awesome work and a heartfelt SKREE-ONK!!!

  • I watched the original upload and the re-upload every night. I would rather watch the history of Godzilla 2014 than actually watch Godzilla 2014. note: I love godzilla 2014, but I love Big Action Bill more

  • Thank god I downloaded the original upload before it was taken down. I remember the hype for this film. The anticipation was off the charts. Saw it opening night and was entertained but felt something was missing. As it turned ALOT of fans felt that. Your thoughts on this movie mirror mine. The Godzilla design is great, the sound design spectacular!, Bryan Chranston is brilliant and the first act grabs your attention! Everything else however falls immensely Short and offers little rewatch value. I enjoyed Kong skull Island and Godzilla vs Kong much more.

  • Thanks for touching on the sound design. One of the most memorable things from this film was the incredible soundscape and noises of the MUTOs. Even if the rest was a bit disappointing overall, those sounds live rent free in my memories

  • Quick question: If Warner Bros continue to be helions with copyright, would it be possible to do a video about the 10 years between Final Wars and Godzilla 2014, or would there not be enough content for it to warrant its own standalone video?

  • Living in central Japan we still felt the March 11th earthquake. I didn’t know about the tsunami until after work. I drive straight to the mall to meet my wife. At the mall we saw the first images of the tsunami damage. I called my mom at like 4am in America and told her she would see that on the news the next day and we are ok but many people were suffering.

  • I remember getting interested in the movie through a game that was released on the phone for Godzilla 2016 where you played as a paratrooper going into the fight between Godzilla and the Muto’s and it was cool to play where at the end it would promote the movie itself

  • One of the things I loved about this movie is that it stays true to the spirit of GODZILLA that Toho created and sticking close to the Toho look of Gojira, while still being its own movie, and making their Godzilla still have its own unique look. The ONLY thing I, and practically everyone else hated about it is, where is Godzilla. The Mutos seemed to have more screen time than the titular star of it. When Godzilla finally shows up fully, and goes full on head to head with the Mutos, it more than made up for the earlier lack of screen time. Another great thing about it was the masterfully done score by Alexandre Desplat. It was evocative of the Akira Ifukube score, while still being unique.
