The vet tech could have handled it a lot better, though. I'm studying to be a vet tech, and I have learned that dumping cats out of their carriers generally makes them bolt and try to kill the vet. A better method is to take the top off of the carrier and pick the cat up with a blanket.

A much superior method is to take the top off of the carrier and pick the cat up with a blanket.

I have a very anxious cat named Butterscotch. He used to be worse then Copper when going to vet or groomer. But I give him Gabapentin and he is so much better. The vet was kissing him on the head and cuddling him at the last visit and he just let her. He couldn't care less. My mom made a joke that it was a date rape drug lmao.

13 lbs is great for him, even at 14 he wasn't overweight visually. Did the vet advise you to put him on a diet? They actually seemed surprised in the last video and this one that you are trying to get him to lose weight. He doesn't look overweight at all. If he gets sick he will shed weight fast. 1 lb. is like 50 lbs for a human. Also why don't you help them with your cat. I noticed in the last video you didn't even help get him in the carrier. Poor little guy. Maybe some kitty Prozac the week before the appointment will calm him down. And use the calming diffuser. It's so unusual to see this level of fear in a cat unless they're 100% feral. It's usually an indication of a problem. My cat had a brain tumor and he had a lot of behavioral issues. I kept taking him to the vet but they just said he was getting older. Unfortunately he got worse and went into renal failed and a specialist finally realized he had a brain tumor. He'd likely been struggling for months. Its disappointing because I kept taking him in trying to tell them that I felt like he was in pain. RIP Caleb.😞

Xero Thank you. I’ve lost 5 and after losing my last one late in 2016, I said I never have another. The pain is just too great. But I was asked to adopt a feral rescue last May that was FIV positive and faced euthanasia. I took him in and he’s doing great. Not sure how long we have, but as long as he’s happy I’m happy.🙂 I’m sorry for your lost furkids as well.♥️

We had a mentally handicapped cat from a kitten and we had her on benedryl and later a depression medication called buspar to help keep her anxiety to a low. Just the sound of the refrigerator cycling was enough to send her running to hide; the 4 hour trip to our last home was interesting with 3 cats bawling and meowing their heads off because they didn't like car rides and brie chilled out sleeping off her pill. @@nathendrake6606each animal has its own personality! cats are easier in my opinion. They are very independent in the fact they use litter box, most can self feed and don't worship you. Some are clingy but most aren't. Dogs also are very different in the fact they are very dependent on you to take walks, feed daily, etc. My wolf/husky mix was more like a cat personality and our German shepherd trooper was as dumb as a box of rocks but adored attention. The other German shepherd kandy was more like a cat personality and super smart. I wouldn't have traded any of them for the world. A lot of people start with insects as first pets and not much upkeep to most like jumping spiders or ghost mantises. There are so many to choose from!

So far, in my studies to be a veterinary technician, I have learned that dumping cats out of their carriers generally makes them feel insecure, thus resulting in the cat bolting and trying to kill the tech or vet. A much superior method is to take the top off of the carrier and pick the cat up with a blanket.
Once you start working you will come across many crates that you CANT take apart. So unless you want to reach in there, you don’t have a choice.

Ik, I hated that. When I take my cat to the vet, I'm usually the one who has to reach into thr carrier and take my cat out so this sort of thing could be avoided.
I love that you are diligent in taking him to the vet. Most owners wouldn't do that given his temperament. I hope things go easier for him if you use the medicine to help calm him down a bit :)

My cat doesn’t even misbehave like this. Last time he was at the vet’s for a checkup he was well behaved. Never scratched or bit anyone and just stayed perfectly calm. The vets adore him.

I have a very anxious cat named Butterscotch. He used to be worse then Copper when going to vet or groomer. But I give him Gabapentin and he is so much better. The vet was kissing him on the head and cuddling him at the last visit and he just let her. He couldn't care less. My mom made a joke that it was a date rape drug lmao.

Had a vet come get me to help control a cat of mine. They say she bit the nurse and was running all over in the back. I went back, picked up my cat and everything went smooth from there. Pet owners should be involved to de-stress their animals.
I think you should give Copper some Catnip or Some kind of sedative like the Vet suggested before his Vet visits. Might as well make it as positive of an experience for him & the Vet & then follow up with some kitty treats when you get in the truck for the ride home. Poor Copper.. HE's PIST!😾😷..😂

Not reliable. If the cat is clinging to the edge, or hanging from the side or top, it will change the force and hence the weight. He needs to stand on the weight

Natures Miracle makes a calming spray. You could spray the carrier, or on a towel in the carrier.
13 lbs is great for him, even at 14 he wasn't overweight visually. Did the vet advise you to put him on a diet? They actually seemed surprised in the last video and this one that you are trying to get him to lose weight. He doesn't look overweight at all. If he gets sick he will shed weight fast. 1 lb. is like 50 lbs for a human. Also why don't you help them with your cat. I noticed in the last video you didn't even help get him in the carrier. Poor little guy. Maybe some kitty Prozac the week before the appointment will calm him down. And use the calming diffuser. It's so unusual to see this level of fear in a cat unless they're 100% feral. It's usually an indication of a problem. My cat had a brain tumor and he had a lot of behavioral issues. I kept taking him to the vet but they just said he was getting older. Unfortunately he got worse and went into renal failed and a specialist finally realized he had a brain tumor. He'd likely been struggling for months. Its disappointing because I kept taking him in trying to tell them that I felt like he was in pain. RIP Caleb.😞

Xero Thank you. I’ve lost 5 and after losing my last one late in 2016, I said I never have another. The pain is just too great. But I was asked to adopt a feral rescue last May that was FIV positive and faced euthanasia. I took him in and he’s doing great. Not sure how long we have, but as long as he’s happy I’m happy.🙂 I’m sorry for your lost furkids as well.♥️

So funny to me. Never had cats. I do have 2 Labrador Retrievers, father and daughter. They never gave me any trouble going to the vet. The female daughter is amazing. When we enter the vets room, she jumps in the examination table, and lay down on her back with her legs spread apart, waiting to be examined. 🤣🤣

Do all cats react this way at the vets? Or just some? And how common is it for cats to urinate or other at the vets (pressumably a reaction to stress or fear)? Have seen almost the same reaction in most videos on here. Wish they could be calmed before being examined.
Mine doesn’t do that. He’s never pooped or peed at the vet. He just looks terrified.

We had a mentally handicapped cat from a kitten and we had her on benedryl and later a depression medication called buspar to help keep her anxiety to a low. Just the sound of the refrigerator cycling was enough to send her running to hide; the 4 hour trip to our last home was interesting with 3 cats bawling and meowing their heads off because they didn't like car rides and brie chilled out sleeping off her pill. @@nathendrake6606each animal has its own personality! cats are easier in my opinion. They are very independent in the fact they use litter box, most can self feed and don't worship you. Some are clingy but most aren't. Dogs also are very different in the fact they are very dependent on you to take walks, feed daily, etc. My wolf/husky mix was more like a cat personality and our German shepherd trooper was as dumb as a box of rocks but adored attention. The other German shepherd kandy was more like a cat personality and super smart. I wouldn't have traded any of them for the world. A lot of people start with insects as first pets and not much upkeep to most like jumping spiders or ghost mantises. There are so many to choose from!
