The ending to both films is a giant gut punch.
This is why I am NEVER going cave diving. Crawlers or no crawlers, the thought of getting trapped miles underground is horrifying.

Yep. Fuuuuuuck that, my claustrophobic ass is perfectly happy above ground, thank you very much!
Went for Boy Scouts when I was like 11. Me and my best friend found some really tight, very hidden, probably unexplored spaces. We got very, very deep in before I convinced him to turn around before we got stuck, something collapsed, or someone came in and blocked our exit by not being able to turn around at the entrance. It was fun, but fuck that dude. Fun, but terrifying. And very, very unpleasantly wet.
You all probably know the tragic story of John Edward Jones, but I am gonna mention it here as a reminder that this is indeed horrible: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nutty_Putty_Cave
I guess it's claustrophobia, but anywhere I go that's not a man-made structure. If I can't see the sky above my head, I'm gonna start getting anxious really fast.

As for this film, there's an entire portion of the game filled with, what I'd call, conceptual inspiration from this movie, even down to one or two of the best shots in the Descent being used in Tomb Raider.
It truly was the best line xD Lara in Tomb Raider 2013 would be proud
it seems like the more the group of women descend into the cave the more their friendships begin to unravel and I think the monsters are personification of all the secrets that are in that friend circle that had to slowly be revealed to the surface

Honestly going into this movie blind was such a treat. I thought the movie was going to be a survival story after they get trapped in the caves underground. THAT was terrifying enough. Madelijn van Beek not on purpose.
@@madelijnvanbeek3600 but that was her own fault
Madelijn van Beek but Beth walked up on her in the middle of murdering a crawler so Juno was on edge
She went back for her out of guilt over the affair with her husband, she'd have left her otherwise, like she did to Beth. Yes, she was in defence mode and swung wildly, but she didn't do anything to help her after the fact and left her to die painfully. She also took them into an unmapped cave without telling them. All in all, she's a complex but ultimately shitty person in many ways. The sequel's attempt to redeem her was pretty misplaced, then again, so was the making of a sequel in the first place.
I legitimately had to walk out in the middle of the movie. In fire school, we had to train inside cargo containers that were converted into tiny obstacle courses. In 95 degree heat, in full turnout gear, in the dark, we had to crawl through these mazes while instructors reached in through a side room to turn off our SCBA cylinders, clamp the hoses, and other general fuckery. I got stuck crawling through a tight corridor with one armed pinned beneath me. The instructor turned off my air so I was essentially breathing a vacuum. I'll give credit where credit is due: they absolutely nailed the feeling of being trapped in a tight space.
see this is why i respect fire fighters. yall are so brave.
Luckily I’m skinny as shit so when I did this I was pretty fine.
Thank you sm for what you do 💖

I never kept track of when the crawlers first show up. But hearing 60 mins makes me smile. My dad isn't into films with fantastical elements, and a few years ago I pretended I hadn't watched The Descent, asked him if he'd be up for watching a film about people trapped while caving, didn't let him watch the trailer. He sat there patiently watching it with me waiting for it to "get good", then the first time you see the silhouette of a crawler and he realised what kind of film it was, he looked at me, rolled his eyes and went to bed early. His loss. I love the film.
Thats kinda funny hes such a realist from the sound of it, sounds like your dad is ron swanson
What's really crazy is that the crawlers in this film may actually be based on something that exists. There are VAST unexplored cave systems that have bioluminescent cave flowers and things you wouldn't believe. There's literally sightings creatures very much like this dating back long before this movie sometimes referred to as mole people. Who knows what they really are. They could be humans that lived in underground and their inbred offspring that were able to pass on their genes were the ones who could crawl through the caves and cannibalize whatever they can grab. They've been known to come to the surface from time to time and grab a snack... some unlucky hiker, or a baby. There's actually a guy in Oregon who got some pretty good footage of one o. A trailcam I. His yard
In Juno's defence Beth scared her when she had a weapon in her hand and had adrenaline pumping in massive amounts through her viens
Not to mention the fact she just saw a bunch of monsters murder her friend and one trying to kill her too after a surprise jump attack from behind. I really dont get why people call it "victim blaming" when people point this out. whether or not it was Beth's fault, Juno didnt mean to kill her. She was running on pure survival mode.
@@xBloodxFangx She also left her to die without even checking up on whether she's dead or not and continued to lie about her to cover her own ass. People would definitely get off her back more if she had at least come clean about accidentally injuring her. But then again, this entire movie is on her, so people will be extra harsh when it comes to judging her.
@@marksimon2085 I get people saying that she at least should have had the courtesy to see if she was alive or stay around to help her but seriously ask yourself what else she could have done for her. Beth wounds were serious there was know way she would have survived a wound like that, I know this sounds harsh but she was already a deadman, so for Juno to stay behind and treat her wounds was putting her at risk of getting killed. Personally the best thing Juno could have done for Beth was to kill her but out of mercy, better that than leave her there to killed and eaten by the monster. Granted she could have been honest and when she meet up with the other girls and admit her action. Looking at the the situation they probably would have understood the action regardless if they didn’t like the outcome, which is Beth dying by the hands of her friend.
@@yvetterocksyeah She could have mercy killed her like MC did. Sarah found the time do it despite all the crawlers which makes Juno running off and lying about it even worse. But as I said, Juno is guilty of a lot more things like even getting them into this situation in the first place. Even without crawlers she was being very reckless leading her friends down some unknown cave parts. Also, sleeping with her friend's husband. The audience is going to start scrutinizing everything you do when you become such a magnet for shitty decisions. If killing Beth was her only offense, people would probably get off her back more

@@opzecoco4104 Plus she might have some trust issues after that
The whole story is an analogy with Sarah's depression. So in a deleted scene, Sarah had a vision with one of the crawlers in the hospital and she never had contact with them before. The depth, the darkness, the desolation and the monsters we have to face with the depression. The light comes with her true friend, Beth and with the visions of her daughter. James: “This movie is great at jump scares, and I just couldn’t help but to include a bunch in this episode, so, you know, heads up.” Me:....................you bastard.
So true i swear i was like uhhh u bastard
At least he gave a warning
The photo of the girls at the end isn’t depressing. I find it happy because I don’t see the characters, but the amazing actresses who brought life to this film. 🧡
9:51- If you're in the Appalachians. And you hear something call your name. No you didin't.
“Has good gore and jump scares” Little innocent me: *watches it at night*

This is the first horror movie I ever watched. It started my love for horror. Watched it with my mom for years before she passed. This movie is and always will be a gem. the starting scene reminds me of final destination so much btw!
Okay, now I need to share a scary cave story that actually happened to me. So, when I was thirteen, my family went on a cruise, and for one of our shore excursion days, we’d booked a guided tour of a cave. Unfortunately, my mom had a really bad headache that day and had to stay on the ship, so it was just me, my dad, my eleven-year-old sister, and of course, our tour guide. The tour was loads of fun, and our guide was telling us all sorts of cool facts about the cave. He mentioned that this particular cave was used as an escape route by people fleeing slavery, and he noted that these people didn’t have lights like we did. They had to make their way through the cave completely in the dark. He-the guide-offered to briefly turn off the lights for us so we could kind of experience what the former slaves went through. We agreed, he turned off our lights, and my sister started screaming in terror. My dad thought she was just panicking because it was dark, so he tried to reassure her, but then he started screaming. I was standing a few feet away from everyone else, with no idea what the fuck was going on, but I couldn’t go over and check, because I couldn’t SEE. The tour guide then turned the lights back on to reveal that he was tickling my dad and sister’s ankles with a stick. My dad says we almost left the cave without our guide that day.
OH MY GOD WHAT A G
If I may ask a kill count of “cabin in the woods” would actually be dope PS: kill counts drop at like 11pm in Australia and I didn’t think to email him at 11pm
You may ask via email 😉 deadmeatmovies@gmail.com
Jourdynne I was about to comment lol
he asks that you email him and not comment it
Caleb McAfee no I was talking about commenting the email sry for confusion
I thought he already did one
This kinda reminds me of Until Dawn
yasmine mixon yesssss
Until Dawn wishes it was as good as this movie.
If you think these are similar look up the film My Bloody Valentine or the Murder,She Wrote episode Snow White,Blood Red
Jonathan Garcia at least the graphics were good
I think until dawn took inspiration from the design from this movie
Fun fact, the actors reactions when the crawlers first show up is genuine fear. The filmakers made sure to keep the actors playing the crawlers away from them so that the actors wouldn't know what they looked like until their characters would
I had beers with Neil Marshall after a Descent screening and Q&A he was really cool and down to earth. I had no idea what it was about when I saw it and was really impressed and genuinely scared.
James: "A bonus for the kill count since they're humanoid" Me: *thinks back to Prometheus and Alien: covenant
"Kinda vague rules"
He dose say vage rules case the alien series he already said from the frist one I will not include xnomphors
He also said without numbers how would he count the engineer race?
“It can be downright difficult to breathe while watching sometimes.” Me breathing heavily
Me too man... me too
my friend recommended this movie to me but said it as “the decent” and i spent like 2 hours trying to find it, if you’re extremely claustrophobic it might be hard for you to watch this but hey you do you. Juno and Sarah were lowkey badass though.
Getting stuck in a crawlspace is way more scary than any of those monsters. My worst nightmare (literally had this nightmare and literally a nightmare, not figuratively a nightmare) is/was getting stuck in a hole in the ground (dirt), mostly vertically, head down first, unable to get up, only further down and more stuck.
James I have a good idea for a new kill reward “THE PLATINUM GUN” for the character with the “MOST KILLS”
That’s sounds amazing
Damn that sounds right
Nice idea
Or instead it could be “the character with the best kill” since most of the awards are given based on opinion and “most kills” is a statistic
Davante Broughton kind of complicated but good idea also
"The descent" (2005) is one of the 50 best horror movies ever made! The ending was very sorrowful!
Eleftheria Eleftheria Agreed and agreed, 👌 👌. The ending confused me. I didn’t know if she ever actually did all that ending stuff when she stabbed Juno, or what...? Cheers!
@@amosdraak3536 she did stab juno but her getting out is debatable
@@elvis4868 Thanks!
True
For me it's in my top10
I’d be quietly sobbing on the theaters if I saw that depressing ending and I wish I were lying, the last sad ending I saw in a movie I was trying so hard to not cry out loud but when my friend asked if I was okay I could barely say no 😭😭😭
😱That ending got me so bad and I was legit crying. I was rooting for Sarah so much for her to just go...like that...its awful.😭
I've been waiting for this Kill Count and I'm so glad it was delivered in such professionalism
Why is this comment 1 day ago? I Just got notified.

This movie plays into my worst fear: being stuck helpless in a small space
So, claustrophobia?
While monster are hunting you and trying to eat you
A claustrophobic labyrinth cave filled with blind creatures.... that would be a nightmare
U read my mind right😰
Its not my greatest but it sure is a really big fear of mine
I finally watched this film today, this is EXACTLY why I'm never going caving
