Fire Emblem Drowning Mechanic - You can Drown in my new Fire Emblem fangame!

You'll need Fliers or Sea Creatures to take you land-lubbers over the ocean! This mechanic is for that moment when a flier is taken out over hazardous terrain his passenger cannot handle. Could be fun for a level where Ballista users must take out swarms of incoming fliers before they can soar over mountains, bottomless pits, spikes, fire, ice, toxic swamps, magical mines, oceans, or lava to deposit their payload of dangerous foes upon the map!

  • Are you sure Kellam actually drowned and we didn't just... forget about him?

  • Hackers talk a big game about balancing the classes. And here they are just upping the flier's kill count even higher smh

  • I am imagining the tutorial where the armor knight explains what would happen if you drop him in the sea and if you actualy do it you get to read his will in which he berates the player for killing him unecessarely^^

    • Currently the mechanic instakills to prevent softlocks but lately I've been thinking of reworking it into a damage over time effect where some classes can swim better than others and take less damage per turn than others when in water tiles. Would be sick to make a map where you're on a cruise ship and after playing Whodunnit Among Us with the crewmates and suspects, the ship is sabotaged and sinking, and then it gets attacked by vikings or smoking hot pirate shark girls and you have to fight while the ship sinks and the ground you can fight on keeps shrinking, and you have to protect units who cannot swim while making use of your shark and mermaid and squid units, then some of your guys have to hijack one of the evil ships and fight off enemies and crash that ship into the other attacking ships. Meanwhile the rest of your guys have to protect your mages for many turns while they focus on lifting a gigantic ancient stone ship from the ocean depths so you can all sail away.

  • I think this would be cooler if it dealt gradual 10 or 20% damage per turn. And then you could have enemy fliers paired up with non flyers and if you kill the flyers, then the non fliers get hurt

    • There is an engine "bug" where if a unit is stuck on impassable terrain he can't get off it. There is no "Directionally conditional solidity" like there is in RPG Maker XP. Reducing the rate of HP lost per turn would only prolong how long it takes for an allied unit to die. Sure, it would give you a chance to send a flier to rescue them. But it would also enable strategies where you intentionally send your units into the water to take regular HP damage and heal themselves so they can stay out of enemy range.

  • I genuinenly want this mechanic, but maybe over time instead of instantly. Do you have the code? I always wanted a chapter with the threat of drowning.

    • The trick is to assign the Terrain type a Skill, and make the Skill deal damage on endstep, the end of a turn (or upkeep, the start of a turn) unless the unit has the Flying tag.

    • It's softlock prevention. Beats being ambushed by water-walkers. Or taking out an enemy over a bottomless pit only to see him teleport to safety.
