Charles III swore an oath as he was proclaimed as King at a ceremony at St James's Palace.
Charles became king immediately following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II, but a historic meeting formally confirmed his role on Saturday.
The Accession Council, a body made up of senior politicians, judges and officials, proclaimed him as the monarch in the State Apartments.
It is the first time the historic ceremony has been televised.

I mean, it's a lot of pomp and circumstance for the purpose of having a lot of pomp and circumstance, to hide the fact that not all that much of importance is happening. It's very tasteful and draped in history and ceremony, but the dude could have just as well had a small reception somewhere and signed a couple of letters. This is what the monarchy is, a big flaming Disneyland show, but in OG castles.
Respect to Queen Elizabeth, I remember reading of her desire to fight in WW2 and go to France, there was no way she would be given permission to be in so much danger, but she did serve as a driver in the RLC, helping with logistics within the UK . Got to respect a young woman who is willing to risk her life for her Country

My lovely mum Mary Physick always said to me on the Queens Birthday, ‘do you know that the Queen and I are the same age’, I would say yes mum I know. Very sad to hear of the Queens passing on Thursday, but also my lovely mum also passed away at 10.05 pm on Thursday eve. My grief is overwhelming

I'm an American and I actually watch this live I'm sure most of the world has and none of us were alive to actually witness this happened before so this was a piece of history and I was glad that I was able to take part in it. We don't have anything like this in America but it's nice to see these traditions live on through different cultures. I'm an American but out of respect that will say long live the king
Actually you do have something like this. Charles was quoting a section from the "Claim of Right 1689". The Stuart dynasty of Scottish monarchs ruling over Great Britain had come to an end and the Scottish nobility were getting a little bit nervous to say the least, as to who might be appointed the new King or Queen. To protect themselves and Scotland they laid out a list of terms and conditions that the new monarch would have to swear an oath to obey and protect the conditions given. One of the conditions was the security of the Church of Scotland, hence why Charles is holding the bible up and swearing to abide by the terms. Another condition was that the new monarch would also have to concede that in Scotland the people were sovereign and not the King... The relevance to America is "The Claim of Right", much of the American constitution is based on what was written in the "Claim of Right" it is basically the constitution of Scotland. Some of which was copied and pasted by the founding fathers. Probably because it was written relatively close to when America became independent. Here's a bit of trivial information for you that you might find interesting (probably not) but anyway, here we go. It's a bit of a coincidence, but on the 12th of Oct (next month) the Scottish Government will be taking the UK Government to the UK Supreme Court. The pro-independence Scottish Government won the election last year and they argue that they have a mandate to hold a referendum on Scottish independence. The UK Government is blocking the Scottish Government from holding a referendum, saying that the right to hold a referendum is reserved under the constitution of the UK? King Charles has just sworn under oath to protect the rules and laws of Scotland that are within "The Claim of Right" are the Scottish Government going to demand that King Charles appears in court to defend the rules and laws of Scotland that he has just sworn to protect? Could get interesting!
