  • Forgive me for my ignorance, but I wonder if the Windows Handheld PC's also need to have Antivirus software on them just like pc's? If so, not only is Windows OS (and it's bloatware services) taking resources, but also the AV software? Thanks for the great video, the Legion looks awesome with SteamOS on it. Just wish many of big name games on Steam would run on SteamOS as well as Windows :-)

  • Dude, I was looking for a video like this! I’m looking to buy one of these handheld PCs but I’m torn between the Steam Deck OLED or the Lenovo Legion GO. Keep in mind, I don’t have a proper PC, so I was planning on making the device a sort of substitute, and since the Legion is far more powerful (and with that gorgeous screen), I’m leaning more towards it. But I’m worried the handheld experience isn’t as good as the Deck, due to ergonomics and especially the software (I dislike windows - 11 especially - and it’s infinitely worse in a handheld form factor. That being said, it does have more compatible games, in particular a lot of older titles from GOG. The Steam Deck also seemingly has better support from Valve and an incredible community. It also seems like emulation is better overall on the Deck. I would appreciate your input on the matter. As it stands, I think given a bit more time to iron out the quirks, I think the Legion GO is best for me, especially considering Bazzite is available and will likely only get better. But there’s still something about the Deck that’s drawing me in for some reason…

    • I was in your position about a month and a half ago, searching YT for info. I owned a steamdeck lcd model and I loved it. My one issue is I was always carrying around a protable monitor, controller, or kb n mouse depending on use case, and when I wanted to game on the screen, i found 800p to be too small for my style FPS shooters. I did install windows on that steam deck and it was good. Then i heard about the Oled model and starting looking into the handheld scene and found the legion go, did weeks of research, got it, and I have not had any issues, I can game right on the screen, no issues for my aging eyes. Also 800p on a 8.8 inch screen is a sweet spot, you get really good performance and crisp graphics. I always knew i would install Steam OS, I just wanted to wait until it got better with bugs and stuff, i decided to do it this past friday and im blown away. I now want to give more of a partition for steam. I also heard throught the community that valve may support their software on other handhelds andI hope thats true. I think if you want the more streamlined expierience, I'd go with the OLED Steamdeck. If the screen is a big deal seller than the Legion Go is great. Even vanilla without steam, just windows it has been really good to me. But after trying steam os, its better imo. I hope could provide enough incite and ty for watching

    • @@bobbydigital18Thanks a lot for the reply, it was very helpful! If it’s not too much trouble, I have a few more questions (£700 ain’t cheap lol); how is the docked experience? Especially in terms of performance, the Steam Deck can scale up to 4K 60fps using a dock (though apparently it looks horrible). Have you tried running any games at 1440p, or 1080p with medium settings? I was also curious about the trackpad, as I plan to play quite a few old-school RPGs with a lot of text/needs a mouse in general. If you’ve tried emulation I would love to hear about your experience. Also, how’s modding? You’ve got modded NMS, but have you maybe tried some older Bethesda titles? And finally, about those AAA games… I wasn’t planning to use whatever device I got to play newer, bigger games, but the more I think about the more I realise that if I’m paying this much I might as well get something that can handle everything; this was actually the reason I started leaning more towards the Legion than the Deck. Sorry for rattling off so much, I just would really like to make as informed a purchase as I can.

      @eternalfaeri1415@eternalfaeri1415Ай бұрын
    • I get it, its really pricey decision. I was the same way lol. I did try it docked with the steam OS @1080 and it ran just as good as native. I did not try on 1440 or higher. I did play NMS on windows docked and it was really good although i did not test higher than 1080. I have not plaed many Bethesda games ecept starfield, which i did run briefly when i got it and it ran ok, did not spend too much time on it . Keep in mind that battery varies depending on which type of game your playing. You def want to get 65w or nbetter power banks for on the go, I have one and get an extra 1 1/2 hours on it. Feel free to ask as many questions, I will try my best to help I do not mind@@eternalfaeri1415

  • Not a fair comparison between steamos and windows on no man's sky as you didn't set the same tdp. Temps are highers, around 80°C on steamos but around 72°c on windows, which means more power used for more frames on steamos. (Seems it uses 30w tdp on steamos, 20w on windows). A bit misleading but bazzite is very cool. I'm just not sure there is so much of a difference in performance between the two

    @noamV@noamVАй бұрын
    • I have all my power up max on both OS. Temps are different, but i think that has to do with the fan curves i set on the different OS's. Some games do run better on windows, like Helldivers for example, I still think Steam OS is the better overall handheld experience IMO. Thanks for the input

    • Steam OS is less of a resource hog, tweaked for gaming (this distro especially for handhelds). Windows is just windows, the same windows you would have on a desktop or laptop, not optimized for handhelds. This is not to say windows is bad for handhelds, its just not optimized for them yet. Lenovo adds the Legion space software to sorta help with that but i dont use it, only for updates. Steam OS is not for everyone I agree

      @bobbydigital18@bobbydigital18Ай бұрын
    • Steamos is optimized for handheld pcs, because there will be a problem with compability if microsoft decides to release a weird update. To combat that they developed steamos which hogs less resources and gets updated by the valve team instead of the microsoft team, so it stays optimized for handhelds(steamdeck).
