A cold New Year session

Superb winter sport on a bitterly cold New Years day at Chigboro. A slow start fishing the indicator soon got hot when I switched to slow fished lures.
How to turn a quiet session around .

  • Good video that mate. Fished my local fishery Coltsford Mill today and set up a bung on the floater and a yellow dancer on the intermediate. All 4 fell to the bung 4ft deep with a mop fly just the one take on the intermediate. Funny how the fish one day will chase a lure next day want it static !

  • Great real life video as usual Tim. Keep them coming! Interested which clear intermediate line you were using and rod details (7wt T2 ?) for the intermediate set up

    @chrisbull9902@chrisbull99023 жыл бұрын
    • Thanks for watching . The intermediate is the Wychwood Ghost fast inter ... I love a clear inter in water like that and it has a little stretch which I also like when fishing lures . The rods were the same for both set ups the Wychwoods T2s . Thats all I had taken with me for the day , usually for light sinking line work I want something a little firmer so would be using a 10ft 7wt RS .

  • Happy new year tim hope u had a good one 😎 love ur videos m8 i learn so much from them 👌 do u ever have trouble with the tip of ur floating line sinking slightly wen fishing nymphs and lures if so what causes it m8 every floating line ive used does this is it normal? Tia

    @dazz6117@dazz61173 жыл бұрын
    • Yes mate absolutely normal , its the weight of the leader material and the flies . No floater will stay up forever . If you are using braided loop connections like I do they will get a little dirty and sink too . It doesn't affect the way the line fishes , just start your retrieve a little sooner. As in the vid I give the first 6ft of the fly line al ittle grease up with floatant prior to the session this helps .

    • Thanks @tim i bought a new cortland competition series floater and used it today and it sunk a bit was wondering why because its new lol it has welded loops at both ends and i use a perfection loop to join the leader on it but still has memory from spool any tips on how to remove the memory or do you just stretch it before use i watched ur video on how to put it on the reel so did it the right way lol does it come out in time?

      @dazz6117@dazz61173 жыл бұрын
    • @@dazz6117 So the tip sinking is just because of the weight of the leader , fluro or mono it still has weight and will sink .. I wouldn't worry . As for the memory .. again don't panic ... the water is so cold every where right now it causes the plastic coating to contract and you often get coils in the first 20ft ... extremes of temp can do all sorts to a line just like the flight of a golf ball ! ... don't be tempted to stretch it .. just put up with it for a bit , Cortland's are great lines and im sure as the water warms and with a little use your line memory will sort its self ...

  • Hi Tim, what sort of range are you casting? I can’t really judge on the go pro. You mention at the start that you’re going “half distance” what sort of range is that please? What would you consider to be a long cast? I feel being able to get good distance on a cast and getting long leaders to turn over is the weakest part of my fly angling. Any advice welcome. • Thanks Bob .. yes I was using the connect series rocket floater .. which is a superb , easy casting floater .. haven't used anything else for a couple of years .. unbelievable at the price ! The other was the Ghost intermediate. I love a clear inter for fishing small waters .. this one cast like a dream as you can see from the vids and has a little stretch where its needed .. These lines are at the right price point in a market that is saturated with over priced , over hyped tackle .. you cant go wrong mate ...

I've noticed on my local stillwaters thats all everyone's doing!!! Not moving from pegs just sitting staring at the bung ! Feeling the take is best thing about fly fishing for me. I think it can take away alot of excitement personally. Happy New year 😎👍

    @starskyarsky8374@starskyarsky83743 жыл бұрын
    • The aim of fishing is to catch fish and the bung is a reliable method for that. I agree with what you're saying tho, I've only recently started using the bung after previously being like yourself but find it very successful

      @hernon07@hernon073 жыл бұрын
    • @@hernon07 yes if your competitive in such a way. To me its too easy at times and nowhere near as rewarding than conventional methods!! I refuse to use it now. Many a time I've had a memorable day without a fish on the bank!!!! Casting into the amazing scenery I am lucky to experience is reward in itself. Especially in these times lol.

    • Its a point well made and can be said for any method whether it be the indicator , pulling , drys . A good angler should be well rounded and versatile with all methods . There really is nothing like watching a big back roll over your dry fly , or that sudden shuddering hit when retrieving a lure , the same can be said for watching an indicator slide away out of sight . All great methods with their own merits . I think the point you are making is valid , to much reliance on one single method doesn't encourage development in an angler , but I suppose its down to the individual and what they want from their days fishing .
