We've used this kzhead.infoUgkxwY_GQlMmFUAMhEN7rwfizj6Pi1RPnF_8 travel bed for our toddler multiple times while traveling, since she just moved out of the crib and wasn't comfortable with her in bed yet. She has slept great in it every time!
I always think of these beds along the lines of “if I were absolutely hammered could I do it?” And if it’s a no then I wouldn’t use it
This must be best advise that I have ever seen.
@El Salvador why I may ask?
There’s a Murphy bed that all you do is pull it down and it’s ready. Could easily do that while drunk.
@@zakiry8634 no I think she meant that women couldn't do it even if they weren't hammered!
malliah101 you sound like you’ve had a fun life
I have no idea why I find it comforting to watch pple who are strangers just chilling in their bed
Hahahah me to
Me to i also enjoy touching myself while i do it. Do you?
I've found that the best system for me was a tatami mat and Japanese futon. They're made to be folded up or hung in the sun which opens up more space than any other bed design. They're also 100% natural and hanging the mattress out in the day makes it incredibly nice to sleep on.
"somewhere between a double and a king" ummm a queen? xD
@daijizai or a twin-princesses
We don't have queens in the UK.
@daijizai yes
double 137cm, king 152cm and queen 180cm all uk sizes...
@@bellrobert1978 shhh don't tell Liz
You left out the space saving murphy wall bed. Many cool murphy designs in van conversions out there. That dog is a lush 🐾
I clicked on this because of the thumbnail, great work guys!
I think most men did that
I wasn't the only one to think about the hammock like that!!! Yessss
@David Lawrence jeez, I ve went camping before and couldn't find a spot for a hammock. Keep in mind different places have different trees. The forest I go camping usually has plane trees which are usually huge and old af with sometimes no low hanging branches and they are also usually too far spread apart that you can't get a normal hammock to hook around two trees.
I just put my couch and coffee table in the back of my van and that"s it. i slept on my couch in my apartment and realized i could use the same setup for my new van home.
James DeWitt That’s exactly what I meant wonder why don’t people just make specialize count as a storage underneath instead of a way for them into a bed hundred extra dollars
Because who wants to go back to whether you know whatever you live in and start on folding in and setting up a mattress it just wakes you up it makes you not asleep for whatever me personally when I go back to my travel vehicle I’m gonna take A nice shower wait myself down with a towel climb up to the second story of the double Dekker bus and just jump into my king-size bed with my girl and dog spartan and my cat Cricket
@@x.x.x.shadow.reaper5758 most of them never actually fold it out to a bed and back everyday! that's why all of their cushion look brand new!! and they are all making money off their social media and youtube accounts so they need their vans to look as good as possible!
Not a bad idea actually. Idk about a coffee table but yeah the couch thing would work but I'd prefer to build my set up inside the van. Need it to fit perfectly so everything sits right.

I appreciate your "intros" so much. I know who Im watching, I don't need a 30 second intro. Thank you.
Good stuff, thanks! I think mine will be a full sized, fixed, loft with a sky light, across the back. I love the idea of being *able* to remove the aisle section in the middle once in a while.
We’ve got a permanent full size double with an amazing mattress. We can still cook, get dressed, sit, use our toilet etc. When I’m ready to sleep I want to sleep, no way I’m messing with a jigsaw puzzle like some of these. Loads of storage under the bed too.
By the magic of KZhead, this is exactly what I needed and it came up in my recommended 👍
Love all the various designs. We opted for a fixed platform so we could store 4 bikes under our bed. I'm to lazy to have to move a bunch of stuff to form a bed at night. :)
Totally agree with you on the fixed bed, did it in my van and supported it at both ends for storage
I am IN LOVE with the hammock hook idea - why did I not think of that before? I go out of my way to make my hammock work everywhere that we stop lol
Make sure you make it to the outside of the van. Having it inside is restricting.
The BED. This covers it for everyone regarding every style. Many thanks!
so much van life stuff on big vans, it would be great to see more on small vans :)
I used a minivan. Not the way to go honestly. Yeah it's cheaper on gas but a bitch on comfort.

I have my RAM ProMaster City conversion 1 episode from being complete, including my just posted Shou Sugi Ban ceiling, a van first! How to sleep 2 in a tiny van: kzhead.info/tools/YlR2t3yTZ8Z2cScBTQEZbg.html?
Thanks for the video Nate. For us the fixed bed suits the best, we just bought a van and we'll start to convert it soon. Can't wait! We did recently a trip in Scotland on a motorbike and there we decided to do a van conversion and started the researching process.
First bed is the best ! Fixed and ready to get into action at anytime. If I am driving and I want to relax, I would just like to open my door, and threw myself into the fixed bed. Great !
The 3rd one is the best. Fixed bed, but you can decide if you want it full width or just half of it.
I love snuggling. Mattresses in two parts are hard to snuggle on. 5:17 excellent idea
I've been leaning towards the slatted sliding frames most recently. About half the storage space of a fixed bed all the time but twice as much floor space half the time. I just hate the idea of using cushions so I know I'd use a thin futon and roll it up during the day. The drop table eating areas were very impressive but I wouldn't want to sleep where my guests specifically had parked their butts. The pop top van was probably my favorite!
Thanks! Super informative & concise! All great designs depending on what you need

@2:00....Van hammock bolt rated @1200#. Tree limb rated @ 12#.
Yea, right?! LOL!
Best bunk beds for a family I've ever seen!
I am not really into van life and so on, but these solutions are so smart. I admire the engineering proficiency and know how.
yeah I could only see myself in a van for traveling the country (US) for like 2 years
Anything that's not a fixed bed is not quite as simple as "Voila" as seen in most of these videos... you still have to get out the sheets/pillows etc and make up the bed. Fixed bed all the way for me.
Me too, convertible beds in a weekend camper, sure. If you live in a vehicle full time, screw that.
Me too any thing else would annoy me .. I live in a tiny van full time and still have a fixed single bed that doubles as a couch 😊
sliding bed for me chief, they didn't include a pulley beg that was in Alex's van builg
Google "Leisure Van murphy bed" and be ashamed of your comment ;)
I-VanLife, there werent any proper ones in this video. If you have a good functioning slide out you only have to pull it. Takes about 2 seconds and saves alot of room.
I lived in a VW Eurovan, a tall Sprinter, and a 5th wheel. In my opinion, most vans try to cram too much into the small space. Everyone needs to decide the 2 or 3 most important things for them and design to that. For me, they are: 1) A big comfy warm bed that is easy to get in and out of, and 2) Comfy seating during daytime, socializing, etc.... and 3) Lot's of natural light and visibility. My preference is a fixed bed, similar to the first van in this video, except with more storage space under the bed... for seating, I don't do fixed seating because I prefer to sit in the outdoors most of the time so I have very comfy folding chairs... for indoor seating, just keep enough pillows to sit upright on the bed.
mine would be 1- nice bed 2- crates for 2 dogs 3- food space. the three top things is a great idea. really helps to focus on what is most important :)
@@lizsun261 : Crates? Isn't that what the bed is for? My dogs sure think so.
This is great advice. Thank you!
@@SmoothCinnamonX: You're welcome Spirit... I've evolved to a less-is-more design aesthetic... only what you really need, throw out the things you might need.
I love the table idea definitely gonna use that when I build my van
You definitely have all the conveniences you need there. You have the van as well, which is a nice bonus.
I never would have expected a bunk bed in a van; headroom is an issue but that is genius
Imagine the fun as teenagers....
@Connor G Are you kidding? kids LOVE shit like that.. its basically a forte.
@@judge462 yeah but they cant get up or down if the parents are sleeping they need a new ladder what if they have to pee in the midle of the night are you just gonna rip the floor under them away to put in the ladder
Some of those convertible bed designs are marvelously creative - but OMG, I would *die* if I had to go through any of that (plus obviously making the thing up) in order to go to bed!
The first one is the best ever design...plenty of storage...slanted cabinets to lean back on...you don't have to move anything around to use it..and the doggie bed is adorable
One of the best campervan setups i have seen so far! Currently living in my truck bed but plan on getting a van soon
I love the table drop down, this is the design i always picture in my head when i dream of my own van :D I see why people prefer fixed beds, id build mine in a spot that makes using kitchen and storage possible even with the bed "out",this way you have the option to convert it into a table but dont have to if you dont feel like it :P
At 4:16, round off the corners of the drop down table, baseball size round. Still will work well.
Terrific video. Thanks. The key is, if I can offer my subjective POV, is memory foam mattress, don't over think it, flexible and easy is best. I've watched a lot of van and sailboat videos. I think the boat makers are more evolved than the Van makers. In this I mean if you spend a lot of money on a sail boat you'll get an amazing, comfortable, clever boat. If you spend a lot of money on a van you'll get heavier and heavier parts, less versatility, and more cabinets cluttering up the space and not many ideas as good as what some enthusiast can DIY from a lumber yard. So I think you've really summed up the best ideas. Thanks.
This is really informative, thank you sooooo much for making this video
great vid! do you have a link to the original vid of bed number 4 with the drop down table?
I like the one with the round table...first time I've seen that in a homemade conversion. They are usually rectangular.
What do you like about it? Round tables in rectangular couches are completely antiergonomical.
The single track sampler has an amazing bed setup
My dad put a bunk bed in his first van. I thought it was quite clever. I got the top bunk as a rule and it was great unless you were in death valley or some other hot place since the heat was the worst near the ceiling.
Hey, awesome video, do you have the youtube link for the bed at 4:10 thanks
Great overview of bed options they are all unique. Great time capsule thanks for sharing
No problem Paul, thanks for commenting & checking it out!
This is an awesome video collage of bed designs. Good job, Nate!
Hell yeah for Quirky Campers! 💕
There is ONE i didn't see in this top8 ... that was just a 1 person (could even be 2 on both sides) fold up to the side of the Van bed. Sure your Van would be a bit more narrow during the day, but you can just leave the beds mostly made, and fold them up, then if needed drop them down and crash... Also gives the option to haul bigger stuff, like bikes, though you do have to leave them out when you go to sleep. If you don't mind sitting on the floor on some pillows you could even make a low small removable (for the large haul) table in the middle where the bed rests on (Japanese style sitting). that way you don't have to build something on the bottom of the folddown structure to provide support for the bed... main downside is that you may loose some storage room, or need other ways to achieve that, but in such a small space it's all about what you want and how you make that fit ... perhaps this is an idea for somebody, so i left it here, like it, take it ;)
I like the number 4 design
Forest Sun almost the same as 9!
There are also examples of lift beds with a hapajac system for bus campers
Not only is this video about DIY bed ideas, it is a quick tour of the variety of English accents! Lovely!
Haha I had not thought of that ☺️😂 thanks for watching John
Anyone know where he got that hammock hook in the first one? I want something like that! Anything similar that'll do the job would work as well :)
wish i was a foot shorter so i could do all this stuff :(, the vans are beautiful and look so fun to build
How tall are you then?
I can't wait to get another van and get back into van life. Had a minivan but it wasn't nearly big enough for me as I'm not a small person.
Interesting seeing and comparing all the different beds. Lots of choices
idk what my eyes just witnessed, but I love it! @7:36
When the girl goes under her bed into the ‘Basement”, it kinda took my breath away...wow
Great video, thank you. Just starting my venture into a van conversion.
I think the best ideas for a bed are the builds that have the couch in the back that offers relaxing positions down to flat for bed mode or a pull out couch. Those can be left in bed mode.
Permanent bed, all the way. I just have an ordinary toyota van. I can sleep, cook under the back door or a tarp... All I need.
Interesting, thank you Nate. Might be good to show the outside length of each van to give us an idea of how much space the bed is taking. We have, temporarily, a swb and this bed thing is really bugging me
Thanks. Good point - has not thought of that. There are some links below the video to the full tours for each van. They usually say the type of van they have.
Fixed beds are the best. I need my bed to be ready to use after a long day.
all i use is a sun lounger lol when i sleep in mine, that said i also need it for work and normally have to sleep beside a 10hp diesel genny!! pain in the arse to take it out and in all the time, but i do have a small bit for my gas stove so not to bad, also good for when i'm on jobs!! would love to convert it properly but can't really
You should do a Murphy mount episode, fold up bed, folding sinks, foldup hobs (stove top), the toilet in a drawer and the foldout shower.
Interesting - just need to find some vans with it in!
@Wanda Tolbert post the link please... I'd love to see that...
4:35 how many heels have been sliced on that...
Mine... At least twice 😂
@@NateMurphy Hey,I was just wondering, what type of van is it that has the rock and roll and pop-top,that's just the style of interior i want. Thanks
right! Just to hold two poles.. hardly essential haha..
Why not just go telescopic
Thank you for this segment. Great ideas.
Love the background music !
Murphy bed, i saw drop permanent bed using electric below is table space with sofa
Sleeping on that too bunk would drive me insane look like there wasn't enough room for kids to sit up 😂 it's a brilliant knot giving idea though
Yea, right?! Novelty for the kids at the beginning. After a while, if *TRULY living full time* in this arrangement, even the kids would find it tiresome. Plus the tight ceiling space on the top bunk would surely be irksome!
Great job with this vlog Nate, very informative. Keep them coming
Thanks 🙏 I will try to ☺️
Awesome so many options now how to make my mind 😊😊
Military Option: Sleep under your vehicle. Stargazer Option: Sleep on top of the vehicle.
Personally, I think the thumbnail could have been just a little more gratuitous
Love how all the van lifers pimp out their girlfriends with some fleshy click bait, little mid drift and under boob…haha making bank of her ass, not very progressive but pays the bills.
@@thegan9143 What do you mean with "not progressive"?
@@RubenLensvelt Pimping out pictures of a women to make money, not very progressive.
@@thegan9143 o right It'd be progressive to pimp out young boys instead :^)
Chads flexing girlfriends is more for conservatives. That sounds about right actaually 🤔
Excellent compiled vlogs!!!
Thankyou so much for all the info it has been so useful and entertaining ..
Click bait. Yup, I clicked 😍👍

Came for the girl stayed for the dog.
What a good inspirational episode. I got some great ideas 💡 for building my bed. Thanks 😊
I loved the table sofa one!!😻
Why do none of these vans have fixed dog crates (for safety while driving)? I was hoping someone had a a solution for this 😅 (I'm assuming the best way would be to have it under the bed)
I think Number three at 3:35 would be perfect for this. You would still also have room for a bit of garage space plus a nice spot for the doggies :)
"instant" bed. lol.
Great video! Are you able to provide link to the hammock you bought along with the support you used in the van? Looking to add it in too :)
Why are Murphy beds so rarely seen in van conversions ❓
Holyfox the one in this video is not even well done... there’s another one that I’ve seen that pulls from the wall- bed completely made, that’s rested on a whole seating arrangement underneath with cushions and pillows.
0:22 flashbacks to when life was simpler
I like the 3rd idea best.
u shapes are the best. Most social setting you can have.
Where is the Murphy bed????
"Switch the matress um ..." (that's German style ;o)
I really liked the futon style couch/bed
The dog in the first bed is in absolute heaven 🤣🤣🤣
Which one was supposed to be the awesome one I couldn’t tell
The one that works for you. I personally like the 1st and the one with the oval table in the middle.
Number 7; let's put a stonking big ceiling light up where the kids sleep so they keep banging their heads on it.....doh!
These are great vans to live on by the river!
I loved the table idea
We all just saw her on the bed and said " yeah I'd lay in that bed "
"and you can't step on the wood. Apart from that you can step on anything else." Continues by stepping in the wood.
i saw that too
I thought he stepped on the seat
My plan that I'm saving up for has 2 chair sofa beds and places for a hammock
Awesome, mate! Thanks for sharing!! :)
