Grandpa Amu picked a piece of wood, sawed it round, and made an ancient wooden door lock. You can clearly see its manufacturing principle.
Life is full of flavors, life requires a smile!

  • Ever notice how Grandpa Amu uses time, patience and results to illustrate the possibilities in a simple piece of wood and our own minds, that is teaching in the true sense.

  • I re-key a lot of locks for a living. It's interesting how, even though the locks I work with are more modern, smaller and made from brass, that all the parts are basically the same. Nice work, Grandpa Amu! I like how it works with gravity and no springs. Spring loaded locks can "explode" and then lock won't function.

  • Interesting lock design. Even though I've gotten some several puzzle boxes, I had no idea it was possible to design that sort of mechanism in wood. Despite how cool it is, it is sadly a very weak lock by modern security standards... Should be very pickable with even improvised tools like a few twigs, and since it has no springs it would open right up if you can just turn the lock upside down. You could also possibly bump the lock open by hitting the underside with a hammer and having them all slide up and pulling on the mechanism as they're all at the top of their pin chambers. It is also definitely vulnerable to destructive entry via a saw or fire, though that is clearly outside of the scope of this problem when the thing it was locking up was also made of wood.
