How to DAD | Jordan Watson | TEDxChristchurch

2017 ж. 15 Қар.
2 126 371 Рет қаралды

Jordan Watson was bored at home with his four-month-old when he decided to make a video for a friend who was expecting. Overnight, he became a viral sensation, and How to Dad was born. In this hilarious, charming, and inspiring talk, Jordan shares the journey of How to DAD and the lessons he's picked up along the way. Jordan Watson A.K.A - How to DAD, created his first comical parenting video in 2015 and hasn't stopped since. In under two years he has amassed over 180 million video views and has an army of 1.4 million followers across Facebook and KZhead. Over the past year he has published two "instructional" books and in May of this year released a NZonAir web-series all about throwing Gumboots. How to DAD has his sights set on taking over the world, in a cute, comical way of course. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

  • Hope he gets really famous. And hope this will help normalize the role of present fathers. He’s really good btw

    @katjaaa@katjaaa4 жыл бұрын
    • @siemenssx1 He's not just present though. A lot of fathers, especially if there is more than one child, leave them to play by themselves and don't engage with them much (just being present). Even though he makes these videos, it comes across that him having fun is by engaging with them and playing with them on their level instead of sitting idly in the same room. He removes the need of having excessive toys that kids only play with for a few days and instead engages their curiosity and learning through play. So being just present isn't considered good, unfortunately it seems to be the 'standard', HowtoDAD showcases being more than just present which is good. And he is very realistic too, in some videos he mentions things like how he will have aches from the playing/exercise - not to downplay how being a parent has its struggles with trying to keep up with a child's energy.

  • As a women, this is so nice to see. What I wouldn’t do for such a great partner. I feel having kids sometimes comes down to how much help you have. You don’t want to leave your kids with someone who doesn’t enjoy them. This guy seems to genuinely love being a parent.

  • Sometimes the youtube channels of parents with their kids make me uncomfortable because you can tell the parents are just using the kids to get views and even create drama for them but with Jordan you can tell that his kids are really loved and it's something that is fun for both of them. He's an awesome parent who's kids will grow up with a great sense of security.

  • Give attention and love to your kids since they are born. That's it. If you do that, they'll listen more, they'll be responsible human beings and ofc love you back. It worked in my family and now I am witnessing it working in my second family. Sounds easier said that done, but it works. If you do not have enough time to dedicate to your kids (both parents) then do not have one.
