In my opinion that's unfair that you don't get a graduation for an Art School. Why does society get to decide how important an interest/hobby/achievement is to each individual... So what if they think an Art School is not as important to them, but it is to you and presumably every other student in the same boat as you and since it is important to you why can't they celebrate that you achieved something? Just seems unfair and narcissistic

As an MFA graduate from several decades ago, I offer you this advice: Create your own destiny. No one else can make you feel that you deserve -- or do not deserve -- anything but you. If you feel unworthy, ask yourself what it would take for you to feel worthy. Then DO IT. No one will ever show up on your doorstep and hand you your dreams. You need to define them for yourself and take action to make them a reality. (Spoken with ❤)

What's incredible to me about Mark is his confidence to give this speech. He teased himself, famous people, and MIT at several points throughout. The amount of allusions in this speech ensured that everyone would resonate with it in at least one way. The humility he showed and down to earthness(Is that a word?) showed his human side which is really cool to see. That is true confidence in my opinion, and I hope the MIT graduates and everyone listening to it can bring some of this confidence into their lives to make the world a better, non-judgmental place.

I always felt like something was missing from my academic experience when my school cancelled our commencement ceremony for my undergrad class back in Tehran, Iran, because we were told “art schools don’t deserve a real graduation ceremony”. Now I am a year away from graduating from my 3 year MFA program in the US, and keep feeling like I don’t deserve a future, and I might never have one. Thank you for sharing this video for all the rest of who weren’t MIT class of 2023 to see and be inspired by. Big.. tears.. coming.. in.. oh boy ❤🎉
" I am adopting this speech and ceremony as mine and choose to reimagine my graduation in this beautiful context." I LOVE THIS SO MUCH

amazing speech ❤❤❤ thanks mark your the best. You have taught me hundreds of life skills. You are absolutely the best.
guys did u notice that when the music was playing he didn’t mess up but when it wasn’t playing he did, a lot? The music makes him way more calmer
4:35 that gave me goose bumps. I can’t even express the beauty in that moment and the nostalgia that went through me.
Thumbs up for you! The word you're looking for might be pragmatism. Keep rocking.
I love how you were trying to encourage Gratification!
Love it that you break rule, and traditions! I love your speech. Congrats all MIT grads!
Hey Mark! I was the faculty member you had a chat with in the cafeteria! You are such an amazing person on and off camera. I cant believe it when they said you where gonna come here and give a speech. I rushed to the cafeteria to see you and sign a magazine. Thank you so much. You’re such an inspiration!
That speech was amazing! Witty, insightful, empathetic, and entertaining. Also, mad respect for challenging yourself to step outside your comfort zone with public speaking :) A beautifully written and performed speech! 🎉

This was epic. And your mother’s influence may have started as ripples but has developed in to tidal waves. This brought back so many memories of my university graduation with a not so spirit boosting speech. My husband and I love your channel and now my daughter loves it thanks to the Adley colab.
this is the best motivational speech ever I wanted to cry hearing it
This is great advise for anyone really not just people from MIT!
You had my full attention for entirety of this video. As a genZ kid who has been raised in an era of short-form-content this should be enough to tell you how great your speech was for MIT 2023.
It’s funny how this graduation speech is 10x more entertaining than my graduation speech at my school.
Haha

@@legianasua6478 haha correct, I don’t know one person from the brawl stars community who’s older than 14 years (except KZheadrs)
I love the humour you used. What an amazing speech Mark
I loved your speech, I cried, I laughed, I enjoyed it a lot, as a future Bioengineer here I am overcoming the rocks of the career of life. I send you a big hug from Argentina!!
Im officially starting college in about two months. You've been the main reason I'm going into mechanical engineering. I'm going to The Ohio State University, and its been a dream of mine for years now. This speech has made the fear of college more manageable. Thank you for always being an inspiration
Best of luck!
@@alch8485 thank you
You’re going to love tOSU! Go Bucks!!! :)
My Condolences for you attending such a bottom feeder school.....
Congrats dude! Learn from me, Professor Leonard on KZhead is incredible for learning calculus, Jeff Hanson is incredible for Statics courses, and Libgen for textbooks. Get involved in clubs, internships and extracurriculars because they are more valuable than grades for work opportunities, and don't give up! This degree is more a matter of persistence and discipline than sheer intelligence.
Well done, Mark. Having worked at a major University for almost 30 years I've been to hundreds of graduations. This is one of the best I've ever heard.
wow what an honor.. great speech sir.
Great speech Mark!!! Your mom would be proud ❤️
