  • Just did this repair over Memorial weekend! My only suggestion is to put the new bearings in freezer prior to installation, the cold shrinks them to the point you can use your thumb to press them in sometimes! Also you need a Spring puller to pull those springs out and install them back! I cleaned deck and applied cosmoline to underside and it drys fast and helps grass slip right off!

  • The wire to the starter is not hot until the solenoid is engaged. The starter is the new part that replaces the bad starter. There on the third model for replacement.

    @sherrischneider2794@sherrischneider279411 ай бұрын
    • That is correct. This type of starter uses an external solenoid that is hot on ignition start. Thanks for watching

    • If I have to arc the solenoid does that suggest I need a new ignition switch? My 54” is in bad shape 😭

  • I ran across your post, i have the same mower and am in need of the same service. Thanks for the post. It helps me determine what parts i need and dont need. It seems my deck is a bit noisy when engaging the blades. The spring, i think, must be the issue. The starter drags a bit, but I'm not sure if I'll change that out yet. Oh, my middle blade is completely bent 90 degrees down. i don't know how it's working like that.

    • Thank you and good luck! Some people paint the underside of the deck when it’s apart to make it last longer too

    • @@RayofallTrades you’re welcome. I just bought a new Hustler Fastrak SDX 60 on 01-10-2023. I been watching Hustler mower videos. I might drill and tap for a grease fitting on the spindles when it comes time to rebuild them.

    • @@travisricks3436 if the bearings are sealed like mine, it won't help. Worth a look though. Thanks!

      @RayofallTrades@RayofallTrades Жыл бұрын
    • @@RayofallTrades yes the bearings are sealed, but you have to pop the seal off. Very easy to do.

  • I replaced one set of spindles on my raptor, SD one time that old set of spindles I took to a machine shop and had them deepn the pocket so I could run a double row bearing top and bottom which makes the mower so much quieter and the bearings last a lot longer. The bearings that I put in it are 5205-2 Z double row angular shielded bearings. If you guys choose to do it, make sure you order the bearings before you take them to the machine shop so they know exactly how much to cut. you don’t need to replace your idler pulleys either if you get bearing 6203z you can heat up the flange on the idler bearing use a pair of vise grips and bend the edge back and then pull out and replace your bearings
