  • Two quotes to explain how both sides felt about that day. From MIA Ricky Williams: Williams: "It wasn’t a matter of play design as much as it was different. The key to beating the Patriots is to confuse them. Their strong suit is their preparation. They scout so well. They have such a good idea of what the other team is going to do. I remember them being frustrated on the sidelines because they didn’t know what to do.” From NE Rodney Harrison: "That was the utmost frustration. We prided ourselves on being very prepared and being able to adapt to anything in the game. We were so surprised. We were confused. You saw the frustration on the sidelines. We were bumping and running into each other.” A quote from MIA Crowder's views and insights regarding the late Tony Sporano's work that day: "They made chicken salad out of chicken crap. Coaches utilized the hell out of our best two players -- Ricky Williams, Ronnie Brown. I remember Tony Sparano, you would see the cockiness come over him. They were 100 percent, flat-out out-coaching people. It brought a little swag out of Tony that he didn’t naturally have. He wasn’t a crap-talker or arrogant, but it would come out when he talked about the Wildcat.”

    • Yeah similar to the read option with RG3 and Kaep, had a lot of success when it started but soon defenses adjusted and it’s used less regularly now. We still see a bit of it tho with the RPOs

    • They caught on, but it was also players critical to that offense getting hurt and players like Pat White being drafted that never contributed despite being drafted specifically for that role. It was the smartest coaching decision to run it for that season though. Those 2 players were the best the offense had to offer, and they ran it at times effortlessly. Bill Belichick is the ultimate scouter and sets his players up to succeed. Occasionally, like any in this sport, a single player like a Peyton Hillis can break any plans. But this was probably the first time you ever saw Bill and that defense be absolutely bamboozled at times to the point of absolute frustration. Big plays could happen, but that was a team reeling that day. They didnt know how to cover the gaps, LB's were having to realign DE and the rest of the line to not overextend and show their hand. Didn't matter, had no answer that day. Ricky Williams remembered being stomped on by 2 players late in that game after being tackled. That's how frustrated that Patriots defense was.

    • This was also one of the most magical seasons in Dolphins history 1-15 record the season before A 2-4 start to the 2008 season and since than they went an amazing 9-1 record to finish 11-5 and win division

    • Dolphins did the same in 2020 going from 3-13 and a 1-3 start to finish 10-6 Even in 2021 started 1-7, went 8-1 the rest of the way to finish 9-8. Miami is such a 2nd half team man

  • This was a great day for high school coaches around the country. Gave their direct snap offenses credibility. Apopka won multiple florida state championships running this offense. Kids probably dont buy in without the dolphins success that year.

  • Joey Porter before the game said that Matt Cassel is no Tom Brady, and since he's no Tom Brady, we're throwing everything at him, including the kitchen sink. He wounded up doing the kitchen sink in the 2nd half to the Pats after sacking Cassel.
