  • This issue is, you can increase the gear ratio, but you will end up with diminishing returns without also increasing the horsepower. IE. with your current power you could have half the gear and just pedal twice as fast and get the same speed. The proper gearing would be to match both your peak horsepower with peak pedal rpm, resulting in your peak wheel rpm.

    • Looks like he didn’t check before welding that the final piece would fit on that disk, which is why there looks to be one oversized gap between pieces on the disk. Fortunately the margins were sufficient and it still worked, but I bet it produces a lot of chain bounce when the chain comes off that section.

The only other one is kind of an exception is an electric scooter which must be rented out by only certain companies and you must be 16 and over with at least a provisional license to drive one.

Especially running higher gear, ex: 80T/15T, also increasing gear efficiency. Flat roads average 40 kph with minimal effort.

    • The amount of effort you need to put in to go 40kph is always the same regardless of gearing. You either pedal fast with low force or pedal slow with high force...energy expenditure remains the same.

      @jamescrud@jamescrud2 жыл бұрын
    • @@jamescrud The force requirement changes with crank length. The higher gearing change means, there's equal effort between: example: [170 mm crank, 60T, 30 kph] vs [210 mm crank, 80T, 40 kph]. Also similar to a CVT engine, once you're at higher speeds, its easier to maintain with higher gear. Its like going 100 kph in first gear.
