We trace the elementary power of nature and present animals and plants in landscapes that have hardly ever been touched by mankind. Switzerland is an alpine country, but it is also Europe's surge tank. Rivers such as the Rhine and the Rhone have their sources here. Glaciers, crevasses, icy cold caves and the underwater dome of the Verzasca are the unusual settings we chose for this film. We meet with rare, selected animal species and present their behavioural patterns, such as the Swiss or Arven jay, the lynx and albino catfish. Cold, wind, snow and extreme locations demand adaptation that make us marvel.

Greatest vacation I ever had in my life was in December 1999 going to Switzerland and staying in Davos in the Swiss Alps. It wasn't just the mountains, the skiing and the sports side of it but the people, the city, the stores, the food, it was just unbelievable. I tell my dad who's 77 now that our vacation to Switzerland was my favorite trip ever and at the time I was only 14. My dad got my brother and I Swiss Army knives with our names engraved and I still got it in my drawer in my bedroom at my parents house.

First time I've seen groundhogs in Europe! Most of North America and Marmots Groundhogs, I love them, during the summer, I go to the park to feed them all the time, they love carrots and peanuts, look forward to seeing them again in the spring!

Ike Strife I have to believe you cannot be serious with your statement about humanity destroying all our beautiful wilderness areas. Not Really, the US and much of Europe has set aside Millions of Acres of National Parks and Wilderness Areas where no development is allowed. We have more protected areas now then ever in place. The only threat that I can see at this time is the Ever Increasing Populations of the world who want to go to the National Parks. They are being tramped on by to many hikers and visitors all wanting to hike the trails. The fragile alpine meadows can be damaged by to many people wanting to enjoy the Mountains.
