I Ran a 5K Everyday For 30 Days, here's what happened!

2023 ж. 12 Мам.
242 452 Рет қаралды

I documented the difficulties and challenges that I faced when taking up running everyday for 30 days and making it part of my routine, I also tried to show how rewarding it has been and how much of a positive impact it can have.
The unfortunate incident happened due to one of my Saturday rugby matches!
As a beginner I chose to run 3 miles or 5 kilometres (km) per day as the brief research I did said this is a good place to start if you feel like you are able to do so. Try the challenge for yourself!
Hope you enjoy the video as much as I have enjoyed putting it together, I always appreciate any feedback. Subscribe for more videos coming soon!
A BIG thanks to @LauraTryUK for inspiring me to attempt this challenge!

  • Hope you guys enjoyed my new video! I’m really happy with the progress that had been made, has anyone done this before? So annoyed that a music track that I used turned out to be copyrighted even though it said that it wasn’t 🙁

    • You can run every day, just gotta run slower. Most runners do around 80% of their miles "easy" and 20% hard. You'd get faster (and feel better) running 5 times easy and 2 times hard a week

      @gregoryf3771@gregoryf37718 ай бұрын
    • @@gregoryf3771 bruh only top world class runners are doing 7 days a week and even then most do a 10-13 day stretch with at least a single day off. In no world should he be just running 7 days a week from nothing, If he wants to get to that level he needs to start out slow and respect the process to get there.

  • Congrats on the progres! For someone who just starts running it can be discouraging to not see immediate results, or even in your case a bit of regression during week 1. The fact that you continued and saw some big improvements the following two weeks shows your hard work. Best of luck on your recovery.

    • Cheers Dan!! Yeah that first week was the worst, seeing constant slower times with the pain increasing. Thinking back now, there has got to be a much easier and faster way to see similar results, in a way that doesn't lead to shin splints and/or the regression. Now is the time for me to research, while I'm healing, and hit it next time, with a bank of knowledge that, before, I brushed over. Really appreciate this comment!

Fuck the 5km challenge. The journey you just started is an even bigger challenge. Let’s blow that one out of the water. The 5km will be the cherry on top when you beat this injury. Next time I try something like this I am going to set one day where I push to the absolute max and the other 6 days, run with no intent of setting any record Times, taking 5- 10 mins longer than my fastest. It will not only make it more enjoyable for me but will also allow me to recover a lot faster. Thanks for commenting!

  • Brother, hang in there. I ran well in high school for someone who didnt train consistently at all. My best was an 18:55 for 5k and a 5:07 for my one mile. I was 18 then. Fast forward 9 years later and I am a cross country coach and teacher who got sick of being out of shape and started running again. Last fall I was running 35 miles a week and was started to do some speed and thresh-hold work outs, but I got injured. I had a series of injuries that put me out of serious and consistent running for about 4 months. It's been frustrating, and I even thought that I would never run like that again. However, I about to run my second week in a row at 10 miles for the week. Hang in there, take recovery serious! Do what you need to do to get well and do not give up, my friend.

  • Hi Tom, randomly had your video come across my feed. I really felt your pain on having a promising training cycle derailed by injury, it’s so frustrating and discouraging. Actually, this happened to me when I first started “running seriously”. I overdid it and got a stress fracture in my foot, and decided to give it a second go once I recovered. Here I am 10 years later having run 1000s of kilometers, a marathon, and made some of my best friends in life through running. I didn’t plan on any of that at the time though. Not saying that you have to copy that, since everyone has their own journey to take with running, but more that I want to really encourage you to give it a second try, it seems like you were really enjoying it despite the hard work and it can really change your life in ways you might not expect! Get well soon 🙏

  • Great video, glad I found it! Quality editing. I've been running for about 9 years and have experienced a few really frustrating injury periods myself - just had 6 months out with a similar injury! When I'm coming back, I always try to remember that my aerobic fitness will improve much faster than my muscular strength. I try to stick to the 'no more than 5% extra mileage each week' rule when building up my training, even if it feels like I could do more, to avoid stressing out my body. And, as much as I'd love to see the results of 30 days of running every day, I also hope that if you try something similar again, you'll find a way of planning it that puts less stress on your legs... especially after they've suffered this injury. Idk what that could mean and I imagine you've already thought about it and received other suggestions in the comments. But it could be trying a 5K every week for 30 weeks / a year (e.g. a parkrun). Or setting your personal best time at every conceivable distance over the course of a year (which I reckon would be a great watch!). Whatever you wind up doing next, I hope you can continue to enjoy running after your injury. Thanks for the vid.

I usually break it down to 25km per week, 5 days of running & 2 rest days in any order… The body really does need some recovery time unless you’re fully conditioned for it & life loves to get in the way of plans so those 2 days withers let’s me rest when I need it or holds me accountable when I’m looking for excuses. Heal up & give it another crack, keen to see the results - especially mentally!🙌

  • Okay, first off, I like your channel, your attitude and your overall outlook on life--at least from what I've gleaned from your videos. Very cool stuff. And two, extremely impressive progress in your 5K time. Five minutes is awesome, and you really showed grit and heart in sticking with it. That kind of discipline is going to take you far in life. And obviously, I'm sorry about the injury. I know how absolutely heart breaking that can be. I hope you get better soon, Dude. But there may be better ways to achieve the goals you want--Better cardio vascular endurance, leaner physique while maintaining muscle mass, and a faster 5k time. If you were doing it just for the sake of doing a 5k every day for a month, then go on right ahead, and more power to you. But if you truly want the goals mentioned above, then you may want to be a bit more strategic in your approach. There's hundreds of ways to do this, but here's a simple template: Run three days a week. A non-running day in between running days is important for recovery, especially since you don't run that much. A runner is only supposed to increase their volume by 10 to 15 percent each week. And you went from zero kilometers to 35 kilometers in seven days. This is extremely rough on the body, and why you were having such a hard time in the beginning. Just like in lifting, there must be recovery days between sessions. Oh, and continue to lift while running. I often do three lifting days a week, and three running days a week. Eventually, you can increase the running days. Vary your runs. For example: Monday do 800 meter repeats. Which is running 800 meters multiple times--like 4x 800 meters, and done at a faster pace than your 5k time, resting for four to five minutes between each run. This teaches the body to move faster. Wednesday Do hill sprints. Find a forty to sixty meter hill, and run that six to eight times. This builds strength and mental toughness. Friday is the the long slow run. It should be nice and easy, and you should be able to carry on a conversation the entire time your running. Get some good music, or listen to an audiobook or podcast, and enjoy a nice jog around the neighborhood. Start slow, build gradually So for the first week: Monday should be one to two 800 meter runs. Wednesday Should be one to two hill sprints. And Friday should be a 1 k or a 2k. The second week, you add one set for each. Or 1k to the long slow run. And continue to add on each week after that. The first and second weeks should be easy, but it's important to create a foundation to build off instead of just jumping into the fire and running 35 kilometers in a week, because honestly, that completely wasted a week of training, hence the regression you saw. If you start easy and slow, you can build upon your times and your distances, so you would be seeing improvement with each workout, and that does wonders for you psychologically. There's a quote in my favorite book, "The Power of One," and a young boxer learns, "Fight first with the head, and then fight with the heart." Train smarter first, then train harder. I know this is probably totally unsolicited, maybe even unwelcome, advice, and I apologize if that's the case, but I saw this and just had to say something. Good luck, Bro.
