  • Years ago when our children were little, we'd get them all snuggled in their beds after their own supper. Then we would get all dressed up and do a fancy dinner for two! We called it "An Evening Out.....In". It was a way to have a special dining experience for far less than going out.

    • That's so nice! So happy you can do that. It's fun, isn't it? :-) My son and DIL live in the next town. The COVID numbers have been rising here. They work for the same family owned company, and their boss is taking all precautions with his employees for their families. The DH is retired, so home, and I work at the local greenhouse. I'm the only employee until Feb. We've all been hunkered down for months, seems like. All summer we did dinner with our son and DIL once a week outside at the picnic table, now that it's winter we're doing Sunday lunch at our house, playing cribbage or Scrabble afterward. It's lovely. I've been using my china and table linens too, candles lit.

  • As a music lover, Selmar providing records tailored to each person, makes me vote for Two Dutch Men and a Blonde Brit. That, and the ambiance of having dinner in the winter salon next to the Christmas tree gave this team the winning edge, in my opinion, because the food both nights looked delicious. • I don't get though why they don't just cook a vegan glutenfreie meal for all? It's supposed to taste yummy so everybody could eat it. Why make a alternatives to the "real" one? If they are going to rate it anyway?

      @FM-ix8xc@FM-ix8xc3 жыл бұрын
    • @@FM-ix8xc I think it's probably because they're used to doing it that way. It would be difficult to always incorporate everyone's needs in the same dish because it would have to be vegan, gluten-free AND "philip-friendly". Philip and Mandy are pretty much on different ends of the spectrum because he can't eat a lot of things, but eats meat, while Mandy doesn't eat any animal products, several of which Philip does seem to be able to eat.

      @blackk_rose_@blackk_rose_3 жыл бұрын
    • @@FM-ix8xc That's assuming that everyone's nutritional needs are the same. While I can eat a vegan meal once or twice it won't harm me but it doesn't meet all my needs. Meaning that after a few days of vegan food I become malnutrition. Veganism is great for some but not for all. This way everyone can get a satisfying meal that suits their needs.

That has what has changed for me during this pandemic...my laughing has been flattened into occasional smiling. You have made me decide I will focus on rediscovering the joy in life. • Thank you so much! This was utterly delightful! And so needed to join the party vicariously! I live alone in Houston which at the moment has one of the highest COVID curves. Although I enjoy being by myself and I enjoy cooking I’ve hit a bit of home cooking burnout. I am German - Dutch and cook mostly fresh. Once a week I go to the grocery store and this time I will buy smoked salmon and filet mignon and a decadent chocolate dessert. Saturday I’ll have a lovely dinner for one. Thank you all so much for the inspiration and the companionship during these trying times.

  • Love this episode. I laughed so much at the dancing with Marie. What a hoot. The dinner was so beautifully done. And Phillip handles himself like a gentleman from the 18 th century and it fits him. Selmar with his beautiful dancing as always. And you Stephanie as always the true Lady of her Chateau. What beauty to live that way , especially now in this pandemic. What joy you brought me. I thank you, God bless all.

  • The Chatelaine and her Dutchmen have a busy morn, raiding the pantry to start cooking up a storm. With pineapple and bananas, perhaps blue garlic too the Chatelaine and her Dutchmen have a lot to do. With tables to lay and places to set, who's going to win "Come Dine with me"? It's time to place your bet. Apologies for my silly poem but this lockdown has left me with too much time on my hands. 🙈😂 Looking forward to joining everyone for a virtual dinner party later.

  • so wonderful, only problem with my husband and I is that he can't cook. During the pandemic he has done most the shopping which has been a real education for him. It always involves at least two telephone calls from the store. Do I appreciate him? You bet I do. Married 52 years and counting.

  • This was all so uplifting, so hilarious, I was in stitches, the superb effort put into a meal, so much attention to detail, from Selmar’s little pastries, Phillip’s cutlery, the beautiful table setting, etc etc, Stephanie is in her absolute element, there is nothing to touch her, hearing her laughter along with all the others is like an injection of well-being and our problems just evaporate!

  • I love watching all the projects and the goings on at your chateau! You have been a lifesaver for my 88 year old mother in law who is hundreds of miles away from us in lockdown since March. She has not been off the property of her assisted living center in North Carolina snd we have been locked out rightfully from seeing her due to Covid. I suggested your channel and you and Ruben the Bulldog are lights in her life. Thank you. Please also know how much you and Michael are loved and adored. You are both so amazing. So please keep it going. Merci Mille Fois! Uta

  • I have had a gourmet cooking club with three other couples for a few years. We meet each quarter with a particular theme. One couple hosts and is responsible for the main course and wine. The other couples are responsible for an appetizer, a starter, and dessert. We go all out with tablescapes and sometimes themed cocktails. Very much like Lalande but, not held in a beautiful chateau.

    • @@gailcraig4495 Sometimes the dinners conform to a place, country, or specific holiday. Someone hosted a beautiful Valentine's dinner complete with individual chocolate lava cakes with whipped cream. We had a Hawaiian meal, a German dinner. I come from the state of Maryland in the US that is known for its seafood and when we hosted we prepared a Maryland delicacy of stuffed rockfish. The stuffing is called crab imperial made with lump backfin crab, cream, spices...We encourage each other to try making something they normally wouldn't make. For the first time, I made lamb chops with a delicious balsamic and rosemary glaze. The ideas are endless. Hope you try this. Food is such a wonderful thing to share with friends, especially those that appreciate the effort put into it.
