This week we took a look at all the nuisance around Seema Haider, a Pakistan national, who crossed the border into India to be with her lover - becoming the obsession of TV news media.
In the past few weeks, our usual suspects covered Haider’s story extensively - some even uploading around 20 new videos on her every day, many laced with sensational, misleading thumbnails: “From Rahul Gandhi dropping her off to Pakistan” to “Seema coughing up terror plots in polygraph tests”.
The click-bait journalism, moral policing and misogyny in the TV news coverage of Haider was hard to miss. In the race for TRPs, the conspiracy theorists at the news channels termed her a “shooter”, “snake” and “spy”.
