This week, India wrote history with Chandrayaan-3’s successful Moon landing. The country became the first to arrive on the south pole, and only the fourth to achieve a soft landing on the Moon. As millions of Indians celebrated this feat and the world looked at India’s scientific community, our usual primetime suspects attempted their best to steal the limelight and make it about themselves.
Times Now’s group editor Navika Kumar was seen shouting “Jai ho!” as the camera panned at her for the first comment immediately after the moon landing. India Today was also not too far behind Navika’s histrionics. The channel showed its vice chairperson Kalie Purie sobbing happy tears in half of the screen, accommodating the ISRO team’s celebration in the other half as the national space agency declared, “India is on the moon”.
TV news channels also aired “expert analysis” on the scientific significance of the Moon mission, featuring Baba Ramdev, Sri Sri Ravishankar, and the like. After the landing, spaceman and knee medicine enthusiast Deepak Chaurasia and Zee News’ jubilant celebrations in the studio were also seen. Meanwhile, Palki on Firstpost was busy fighting it out with the Economist, which ostensibly called her “stunningly ill-informed” among other things, in one of their articles for her international coverage. She channelled her inner Akshay Kumar from Namastey London and roared back against the Economist.

  • People in the comment section, please understand that the scientists deserve the most coverage simply because their work and dedication (duh!) , But our media gives all the credit to politicians, businessmen etc. for doing nothing but being alive. Just praise the scientists and no one else for this achievement.

    • Absolutely. Credits completely belong to the scientists. But a little credit belong to Nehru as well who had the vision of today, who not only helped founding ISRO also warded all gobar bhakts off from fine institutions by giving them autonomy.

  • On the left side of ISRO’s screen was that man who bhakts want to see every where and give him credit for everything. People tuned in to see the landing and this man landed on ISRO’s screen taking half of the screen. Children will not learn anything from him. We need to see the scientists behind this project, what they studied, which school they went, what degrees they did, what they focused on to become such scientists, what challenges they faced etc.

  • That Pakistan reaction part even I noticed on several news channels. I was confused why news channels are showing reactions of Pakistanis about Chandrayan. Hume kya lene dena Pakistan ke log kya sochate hai ISRO ke baare me. Na ye mission unke liye hai na hi unka koi contribution hai, then why are news channels so interested in covering Pakistani reaction. One more thing I noticed that several channel had headlines like China dar gaya Chandrayan se and all that. Bhai, China has already been to the moon, I think twice. They have a space station and have sent people in space, why would they be scared to India's moon mission.

  • There is a huge gap between sense and sensibility. It's the literate and educated gets the job done whereas the illiterate who runs to take the credit and a certain section of educated (godi media) helps illiterate to take credit so they can milk bjp to buy their iPhone pro max bigger houses and better cars. Can't help it hence in my personal life I keep fundamentalists and their chatulatas at bay.

While it totally does deserve the bashing, a non sarcastic and holistic coverage of Chandrayan 3 would've been nice (I couldn't find a video of the same on your channel).   • No amount of praise is great for the amazing men and women of ISRO! The statement of the ISRO Chief exudes humility because he knows that in science you have to learn to walk before you run, and crawl before you walk. He and his team stand on the shoulders of the Sarabhais, Dhawans, Bhabhas, Sahas et al. I just hope that this crowning achievement inspires us to develop a curious mind and scientific temper. At a time when we are in the elite group of nations in terms of space technology, we should refrain from belittling the achievements of our scientists by gloating over our Padosi mulk.
