Sunak promises Rwanda deportation flights in July

2024 ж. 5 Мам.
33 192 Рет қаралды

Rishi Sunak has said he is determined to get his Bill to deport cross-channel asylum seekers to Rwanda through parliament tonight - even if it means MPs and Lords sitting late into the early hours
The Bill cannot become law until both Houses agree - and the government says that means opposition Lords must give up their attempts to put more safeguards in.
The Prime Minister said commercial planes had been booked and he expected the flights to begin in ten to 12 weeks time.

  • so were talking about a July election then? If he does get the first planes taking off in June, he can't leave the election too long after that or people will start noticing how it doesn't have any effect on small boat numbers. Also since Rwanda have sold off most of the houses we paid to be built to hold asylum seekers we can't send many in total either. Need the election in that sweet spot between the plan starting and being proven pointless

"Um, I know it was done in 2016, but we were busy, so 2024 Primary season is when we decided to file court proceedings, yes we do know the statute of limitations is up, but we want to for... Democracy *this message was brought to you by the Democrat party*"

The scheme won't make any difference and when people realise that for every person we send to rWanda, they will send us a physically and mentally disabled person to the UK, people will explode with anger. The sick and ill people we take from Rwand will cause the NHS to completely collapse, and it will cost billions to look after them for the rest of their lives. This scheme is worse than doing nothing.

If you want to study abroad, you get a visa approved for yourself alone.So... in the UK, a student from India can bring his family while "studying" for 5 years and can then apply for UK citizenship after 5 years.... The govt makes it easy.

Any PM has a hard job battling these people saying we are inhumane - it is ridiculous. We, as a country, need to toughen up and ensure our legal tax paying residents are properly looked after and have a proper system of immigration just as Australia has - he should be able to achieve that. Tenerife is, quite rightly, worried about the number of people buying holiday homes pushing up prices and the effect on its infrastructure/ecology - protesting tourists........... one response in English "F off - we pay your wages". What a shameful attitude, blinkered attitude. How on earth is climate change going to be dealt with when we have such a low human baseline

    • @@tlg5003 The thing is we actually used to have a process for people who come on boats and what not. Processing was very effective with the Labour government. When Labour were last in power they were refusing 88% of initial asylum applications (2004). The tories are refusing just 24% (2022). They actually put resources into processing people and seeing who is legitimate and who is not. And those who were were refused were sent away, and made sure that those not qualified did not enter properly. Then came the tories who basically cut all the processing and manpower for refugees to go with their anti-immigration stance and having "zero tolerance". They cut off all routes to be able to claim asylum properly. The ONLY way to claim asylum is in the country, which you have to come here in the first place. With exception on who we are friends with like Ukraine but not Palestine. However this doesn't stop people coming. People will come and there are countries who are at war and people seeking help. So with the lack of manpower to process people is how we ended up with refugees and immigrants being housed in hotels, given £8 a week doing nothing and not able to contribute, like the lad in the video. The Tory gov just doesn't process anything which created the whole backlog and "inability" to process propely who can come and who has to go.

      @hazelcrisp@hazelcrisp6 күн бұрын
    • @@hazelcrisp okay fair enough. Let's improve processing. And yet, your post says absolutely nothing on how to stop the boats. Nothing at all! Processed in one week or one year, they'll still keep crossing illegally either way. And, those that are refused asylum are never removed anyway 🤷🏻‍♂️ So logically, you have to stop the boats to control borders and who we do or don't want coming here, then you can start talking about 'legal routes'. As it stands we have no resources to increase spending on legal routes cos we're spending £billions on people who pay money to people smugglers to jump the queue or come here as economic migrants.

    @acidalex420@acidalex42013 күн бұрын
    • Can't send them home because it wouldn't be safe. Sunak wants them to stay in France. He could have made a deal with France to send them back there to discourage the dangerous boat crossings. That would be much cheaper than this nonsense, and not be such an embarrassment of the world stage.

      @tomvandersteen5880@tomvandersteen588013 күн бұрын
    • The thing is we actually used to have a process for people who come on boats and what not.
