  • My raised beds are no where near this fancy, but it is quite functional. On a SS budget, I used what I could get mostly for free. I have used several large mineral tubs given to me by a local farmer, wood that I picked up from construction sites also given to me. As I get things done I paint the containers so it does look more consistent. I love it and it is such a functional space.☺

    • I consider my current house a temporary home... so I am cautious with my budget, while things may not be exactly the same or as fancy as some of these as I go I paint to keep things appearing more consistent.

I really wanted to show that even those on a tight budget can still make an enjoyable and productive space. Feel free to message me if you want me to send you the pictures and some planning tips.

I have been wanting to design a raised garden spot in my yard and my husband is reluctant due to the fact he believes "a garden should be on the ground".(Even though he won't be the one to tend the garden😉) I plan to re-watch this video with him so he can understand why I want it up off the ground and also so he can see how beautiful it can be when done right. • The raised beds were GORGEOUS! I'm anewby gardener, two years in as a result of covid... I started with one elevated raised bed. My idea was "tabletop". I did NOT want to bend over to tend or harvest... I now have three pre-fab ERB's, one custom ERB that's 8x3, a custom built bed built especially for manpukuji carrots, a squash bed I built two weeks ago. They're all cedar, the squash bed is not an ERB. It's 6x3, 3 feet tall and I've used the HUGELKULTURE method to fill it! 😃 I got x.mas trees from local park after the holidays and filled the mank and squash beds. You mentioned the increased cost of lumber and filling beds so I thought I'd share that bit about the HUGELKULTURE method. I'm in zone 6 and can't wait till March to again spend my days and evenings on my floating deck surrounded by the ERBs. Glad I found your video! So inspiring... ❤️

I just got some wooden boards for some raised beds for free from a guy that owns a sawmill. It's just the rounded outer edges of the cut logs but beggers can't be choosers when it's free. My motto is work with what you have until you can do better and there's always next year for more improvements.

The brand my Home Depot carries has more than three dozen colours to choose from. Will look great with black stained wood, and won't look quite so industrial. Though I still do like the natural colour. Instead of a factory-applied paint, I am tempted to use Cor-tens. Gotta love rust!

    • @LauraK @Beach Seeker I wish I could post photos. The method I used was closer to what Laura did on her video last week when she filled her cold frames next to the Hartley. In my 4’ x 8’ raised beds, I layered rotting wood, sticks, leaves, green material(weeds), hay, pretty much everything organic I could find on my property. I added soil, compost, and raised bed mix to the top 10”. My raised beds are 30” high. The soil dropped down over the season, but it is rich and loamy and beautiful. Starting my second season, and I love the results so far. The Hulgelkultur method can be modified in different ways. If you choose the original method, I would just research watering first. There’s so much info out there.

We have disagreed on how tall the beds should be but I think/hope I can talk him into taller raised beds garden. I also love the idea of making it asthetically pleasing to the eye as well as functional. I am an artist (music - [ I teach piano, guitar, bowed psaltery, choir] and crafts [ needlework, quilts & loop yarn blankets, Chadelier Crystal Xmas Tree Ornaments, Etc] ) as well so want to make ours a beautiful space! Thanks for always sharing your ideas and those of others who enjoy your videos! ❤️🌿🪴🌻

  • Loved the submission from Saskatchewan. Also my home province. Ordinarily grow season is May to September but we can use techniques and sometimes we can plant end of April to early October. We have lots of light and heat in the summer. Daylight can be 4 am to 10 pm.

  • I haven't watched the video yet, but I think it's safe to assume this is unrelated. 😅 I dreamed last night that I was watching GA on my phone but then it was on the tv too (on one of the news channels)! I don't usually watch until a little later (when things slow down at work), and I don't watch much tv during the week, especially in the mornings.. So, who knows.. Maybe you are on tv, and I just didn't know!!!?!? 😂😂😂 Love your videos and your family! I hope everyone has a good weekend!

  • If the ONLY thing I ever learned about from watching your videos was hoselink ... It was worth every second! Thank you! After 2/3 crappy house reels & lots of frustration I am thrilled with my hoselink! Of course that's just the BEGINNING of what I've learned & enjoyed. (And spent money on!)

  • Hello to Vanessa in Saskatchewan from another zone 3b in southern Alberta! Our growing season is from about May to early September. We get the most sunshine per year in all of Canada, so there is a thriving vegetable greenhouse industry here!

  • Laura & Aaron & Sister in Law, Thank You for doing these videos! I know the work lift is big. I cannot tell you what a gift it is to see what others are willing to share with us. Laura’s ability to point out things & find a warm comment is graciousness personified. I’m pretty private & reserved about my garden-but admit that I’ve shared pictures with others who asked because of the community here. I’m so grateful that you’ve evolved the channel beyond those “gift opening” videos of the past…because THIS format feels like a gift to everyone. 🥰

  • I’m so impressed with the frequency of your videos!!! I’m a first-time, first-year (until June) homeowner and intrepid gardener, and your channel has been inspiring me all winter! People wouldn’t know how much work you put into these videos because they are so naturalistic, look effortless and are like inviting a friend over to talk gardening. From planting spring bulbs last fall for the first time to starting my first seeds indoors, you have already given me so much guidance! Looking forward to when I can submit photos of my establishing garden your way!

  • I´m doing my first raised beds ever this spring for my florist company. This video was so inspiring for me 🥺😍 I will have my flowers at my boyfriends grandparents house because we live in a one room apartment (with 80 plants and around 100 baby flowers right now 😅). I´m so excited for this year and I will probably cry when I make my frist ever bouquet with my own flowers 💐

  • Those raised bed gardens were all beautiful! Gardeners are so creative! The last garden from Ohio must have been northwest Ohio, where the land is FLAT!!! Huge farm country. Lots of space for growing. The sunrises and sunsets there are spectacular! Kudos to all the hard working gardeners who shared their photos! I love seeing how other people utilize their spaces.

  • Oh wow so many pretty garden pictures:) we also have deer so we plant our roses and flowers in our back yard . We only have deer in our front yard as we have a big dog in the backyard and the deer doesn’t like our dog. We can see the antlers just over the fence as they walk in our neighbors side yard but when our dog barks you can see their antlers as the run away. It’s going to be a small garden this year as we didn’t get enough 🌧:( here in Calif. please keep on showing these kinds of videos as they are wonderful to see:) tfs God Bless:) oh yes congratulations on having you picture in the Proven winners catalog:)

  • So good to hear of the "through the years" projects. We are trying out some 1 plank fold out raised beds on a section of garden this year, hoping for more permanent beds in future. We are.retlired, so the expenses need to be minimal. I also have 2 different raised beds we have built since moving here 3 years ago. One on side of garage out of block wall. It is nice to be able to sit, and worked in this sloping area. It is mainly for greens ,as it is filtered sun. The other is a wood raised bed from salvaged materials in a nice sunny spot. We have towering trees, so finding enough sun is a challenge. And this small.area.betwwen house and garage had room for a large raised bed.

  • This is such perfect timing! We are going to be building a raised bed garden this spring over the next month and a half or so... It'll be fenced in for one, deer and two... Dogs 🤣 so I enjoyed seeing the fenced in ones! I'm super excited because I've been using the garden bag beds as a temporary solution. They've done great, but can't wait until I have my dream garden ❤️
