YA movies were all the rage in the early 2010s, but a strange thing happened where those young adults… aged? It seems like the even younger adults did not share the same enthusiasm for the genre, and nothing made that clearer than the drop-off that was seen in the Divergent series.
The Divergent Series: Insurgent definitely raises some questions. Like how is Tris so good at hair styling? How did the bad guys get that magic technology in the past 5 days? How do any conspiracies exist when truth serum is a thing? How does Janine lose when she’s mind-controlling an entire faction?
To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to The Divergent Series: Insurgent!

If necessary, Ryan can do a follow up meeting after the film's released, but I think it would be best to have something come out right before Baldwin's trial.

    • @@MusicoftheDamnedIts lazy writing, since every inconsistency can be looped back to "It wasnt real!" - its only slightly beter than "it was a dream all along". The better YA books dont have that, but they are not necessarily made into a movie. (Enders Game has that though, but that was probably the original).

      @impeeratorii@impeeratorii14 күн бұрын
    • @@impeeratorii Agreed about it being lazy writing. YA gets a bad rap, but it's really not helped by the fact that it seems like only the most shallow YA novels become mainstream popular and then get adapted into often even more shallow movies. I'm not sure if Hollywood just really love dystopian YA stuff or if that's really consistently popular for some reason or if they just happen to be the YA stuff that's a series most often, meaning that it's easier for Hollywood to milk such IPs. It sure feels like some combination thereof though, especially when the only YA Hollywood series adaptation I can think of off the top of my head that *isn't* (intentionally) dystopian is the even worse written _Twilight_ series. (Funnily enough that too has its own "it was only a dream" equivalent. Thanks for barely spicing up a boring book & movie, Alice.)

      @marlowcowan5343@marlowcowan534314 күн бұрын
    • Apparently, that's WG's fault. Looking it up, that part of the scene in the last movie wasn't in the book, bad guy wasn't in the room so Tris never had the chance to stupidly 'let her live'. Hence WG creating a plot hole with this movie w/ Tris starting out as "we should kill her". This movie sounds like having a lot of nonsensical stuff too, so I'm curious (not really) how many of those scene's were WG just throwing in a fight or something just to add in some action even if it didn't make any sense.

    • @@bradleyhiggs3824 I've found it to be a pretty fun hate-watch. It's not exactly a "so bad its good" movie like Troll 2 or The Room, but it has some other special quality that I just absolutely love (to hate.) I can't wait for the other 4 movies he has planned for it, lol What was particularly amazing for me is the first movie got shredded for being a rip off of a bunch of other movies. Part 2 though? It literally is a carbon copy of the first movie. It ripped itself off. The plot barely progresses a single inch further than part 1 despite being 2 hours of content. All they do is add in some meaningless background story about what happened to the princess (that in no way effects anything in this movie) and finally have the robot fight (although, he fights nearly just as much as he did in the first movie, so even that's not new.) And while this new one doesn't have them go on the quest to recruit each and every hero of the superteam (that never interacts with one another.) This movie still has the audacity to hit us with a 'montage' of their origin stories (all while not interacting with one another. Seriously. It's absurd. Like one dude tells a story about how the empire murdered his entire squad to punish him. And without acknowledging dude's agony with a single word or body gesture, the next hero in line immediately launches into their 2-minute sales pitch for an entirely different product.) So it basically re-tells us the whole "team assembly" story line that the first movie gave us. All so that they can then have the same exact fight that the first movie told us would happen. (And did happen already, just in an 'unexpected' location) Can't wait for part 3!
