  • *LYRICS* I find it funny, the lights we shone, burn us out So I just keep running, but I can't catch this horizon, It's always just further than; I know it never ends, I fear what I'm dreaming of. And I know, it feels like heaven, when you are lost. And it feels like I'm out of time. And it feels like an end I can't overwrite. No, not this time! In the beginning, we always dreamed to be where we are now. The human condition, we chase lines that we redefine So close but still so far. I'm falling apart, want to be what the world forgot, And I know, it feels like heaven when you are lost. But it feels like I'm out of time. And it feels like an end I can't overwrite. And it feels like I'm watching my childhood dreams, Just fade and die. Oh we grow older, but never learn to say, Goodbye.

Now I’m in my 20s, it’s such a beautiful song with such a peaceful time of my life attached to it :) before he blew up, we used to talk on Facebook. He was super nice and we’d talk all about the process of songwriting, and the instruments. I loved his stuff so much! However time went on and he blew up. Hoping he’s still the same, I haven’t listened to any of his newer stuff. I just haven’t gotten around to it. But this song has always meant a lot to me, so many memories..

Ive always loved the flip between the 2 outlooks with the years of maturing in-between

Yeah, it didn’t go as planned with coronavirus... but this song always puts a smile on my face. The past should be something that is always looked back on something with curiosity and beauty. Anyways thanks for reading.

  • "I find it funny The lights we shone Burn us out" It was the start of school year 2016-2017. I was a transferee student from another school where I was treated as an outcast, where I was bullied to the point that it severely damaged my self esteem. To the point that I whisper as a response to people everytime they approach me. He was one of those people I'm referring to. He's the extrovert that picked up an introvert like me and adopted as his friend. There was never a day where we didn't talk about a lot of things. When we talk, we never ran out of things to talk about. He's the guy that introduced me to Eden's music. However, as time goes by that's where I started to look at things on a bigger picture. If he's worth keeping or not. If the school is worth staying or not, for the sake of my mental health's recovery as it's also taking a toll on my physical health. As I assess my thoughts, I started to see how he's doing more harm to me and my mental health considering that he's a mentally ill guy (we shared some moments where I tried to help him out when he was attempting to end his life) and the same sentiment goes with my classmates that I've been interacting with. The place where he found me was not really the place where I'm planning to stay for the rest of my highschool years. Hence, I left without telling him that I'll leave after that school year. We still talk by the time that I'm already transferred to another school where I felt more comfortable. The place where I felt safer. Where I was respected. Where people are nice to me, including the teachers. Also where I respark my interest in art again as it was put on pause for 2 years due to bad mental health. On that year, I continued on dreaming to become a fine artist. One night that we were chatting, we had a conflict. It's not really a conflict though since I didn't dare to start a confrontation. I mentally can't during the time, as that was the same night that I was juggling my research paper and my business plan paper solo. I have to carry these freeloaders alone, with only coffee and spite. I snapped. I sent my last message to him before putting the chat on ignore messages then later unfriending and blocking him. I was hurt. Never did I cry over a friend before. I feel like a container full of pressure inside waiting to explode and that was that moment I anticipated for. We stopped talking for more than 2 years. Within those years, I'm starting to rebuild my self confidence slowly. Gaining more friends and putting myself out there. Until we met again. Not physically though, but online. Coincidentally, we have the same school but different locations and due to the pandemic the school decided to consolidate branches. We became classmates again. We talk but awkwardly like there's, this big elephant in the room that both of us are waiting for who's going to address it. It was a long time before I get to address it. Because if there's one important thing my first girlfriend taught me would be the importance of communication and transparency. I brought it up, reminding me of the thoughts that I had that night before cutting him off. It pains me telling those things to him. Telling him what toxic experience I've had with him. I'm surprised that he listened and he didn't gaslit me. That was the response that I've been anticipating the most because that was the most easier to move on from since I've already anticipated that. But he listened. We talk until we both decided to part our ways. Now, to the present I'm here waiting for an email from the job that I applied to and got accepted. From my dream of being a fine artist or a multimedia artist, I decided to go for the practical route. I'm now saving money for an accountancy degree to make my parents proud and also a compensation for being gay. Or rather, for failing my parents' expectation as their eldest daughter. For my younger brother too, as I'll be helping to fund his college expenses. Aside all those reasons, I think the main part that played in me refusing to take art for college is that during the time that I pursued Animation at my senior years of highschool, I went through severe burnout. I stopped drawing for a really long time. It's funny because the lights we shone, burn us out indeed.

  • Any thoughts on what this song is about? The way I interpreted it, I think he's trying to say that the older we get, the less goals, dreams, and aspirations we have. Some dreams come true (graduating, getting married, whatever), some we realize will never come true (be a millionaire, visit every country in the world, whatever), and still others we realize we never truly wanted (maybe we thought we wanted to be Doctors but changed our minds in the end). Regardless, as we get older, our childhood dreams "fade and die"... but even though we continue to watch our dreams die, it never gets easier to give up on them or accept that they'll never come true - "we never learn to say goodbye." Thoughts from anyone else?

    @joezoyhofski3111@joezoyhofski31117 жыл бұрын
    • That's an interesting thought, my view was sort of similar. My interpretation of it was that we all have dreams, but sometimes our dreams are too high and unattainable, and because we're never able to reach what we wanted/expected from ourselves, it destroys us, like in "The lights we shone burn us out" and "I fear what I'm dreaming of". And that's also how our dreams eventually "fade and die", except we're never able to let go of what we dreamed of achieving (like what you said). And maybe also another thing might be that the dreams we do manage to realise, aren't good enough because we always want more. But hands down one of my favourite songs from TEP/EDEN

      @Silentflake1@Silentflake17 жыл бұрын
    • Epitome That's an interesting interpretation. Now that you mention it, I think that having dreams that are "too high and unattainable" is definitely one of the themes of the song. Thanks for discussing. This is honestly my favorite song from TEP/EDEN

    • a friend of mine who could sing and play this had a very inspiring interpretation. that eden is telling the story through the eyes of a man who is terminally ill and wants to do what he can before time runs out and about how he comes to terms with his inevitable death. strangely enough, this friend of mine had this exact same story. he was terminal.

  • This is the first song of his I listened to. I remember feeling so inspired to write after listening to it. I've gone to three concerts of his since then, finished high school, got my drivers' license, went to university and dropped out a couple of months ago to work on my creativity. Turned 21 today, but I don't know what to do with my life. I'm sitting in my room talking to my online friends and playing games, but I have to figure out what to do with myself before the next school year starts. It saddens and amazes me how this song that once inspired me has become something I finally properly understand the meaning of because I'm in a similar situation.

It feels like heaven when you are lost And it feels like I'm out of time And it feels like an end I cant overwrite No, not this time In the beginning We always dream to be where we are now The human condition we chase lines that we redefine So close but still so far I'm falling apart Want to be the world forgot I know.. It feels like heaven when you are lost And it feels like I'm out of time And it feels like an end I cant overwrite And it feels like I'm watching my childhood dreams just fade and die Oh we grow old But never learn to say: Goodbye.
