Then again, who knows where Aang's spirit went after Korra lost the connection to the previous Avatars in season 2.

A lot of people don’t know this story but it’s very sad and wholesome. Idk if it is CANNON but it’s still great. After the white lotus found Korra they took her to Katara , to master water bending. When Katara saw Korra, she started crying knowing that Aang, her true love is inside the small girl. Korra was confused why Katara was crying and wanted to make her happy. Korra had an idea on what to cheer Katara up. (Let me remind you these are the first words Korra ever spoke to Katara). Do you want to go penguin sledding with me. Your welcome

I thought they had some chemistry in the episode where they were imprisoned together. Which is probably part of why she was so hostile towards Zuko when he first joined the group. She felt betrayed when he sided with Azula. She had been burned before (pun not intended) and didn't want it to happen again.

I think their relationship arc was done to perfection imo. Just enough hints throughout the first 2 seasons to let us know that their are sparks beyond the typical friendship without interfering with the overall scope of the story. Things heat up during the final season culminating in the final kiss. For the people who say that Katara hardly reciprocated her feelings toward Aang, I think the structure of the final scene does an excellent job of showing she is ready to take the next step. She is the one who approaches Aang on the balcony and she is the one who reaches in for the kiss. Had she been completely head over heels for him before, the kiss wouldn't nearly as impactful.

Yeah, I thought their romance was well done, I really don't see how anyone could think it was forced or that katara didn't have feeling too, throughout the show katara showed aang a lot more attention and concern than anyone else. She was blushing for him all over the show and kissing him on the cheek every chance she got, hell she even initiated the idea of kissing in the caves, you could argue that was just out of perceived necessity but her interest clearly extended beyond that. She's deffo less forward with her feelings in the show but it was pretty clear she was also interested, after the episode where they save the village it's pretty clear her feeling for aang start to change, moving away from friends.
I believe Sokka's exact words were "OOGIES!".
