I miss the days when different make of cars had a distinct look. Now everything looks the same. There used to be so many beautiful styles.
Just think how much you could have made buying up 10 Shelby 427 Cobra's...
Now almost everything is a crossover
Omgosh, hindsight is 20/20. If we had only known to keep our old muscle cars! Many of us sold them when we got married & needed station wagons to transport our families. Many Ughs here! We had no crystal ball! 🙄🤔😭
Agreed. Also, what kind of cars will be at car shows and cruise-ins? I have an '88 IROC and it ain't going nowhere!
Amen!
Bought a 1969 Javelin SST when in college. Big Bad Orange, black vinyl top, same color bumpers, black pin strips and mag wheels. 390 motor that produced 325 horsepower, reclining bucket seats, popular at the Drive In Movies. Side pipe chrome molding, just beautiful.
I have a Matador Red 1969 Javelin SST with the 290, 4 speed manual. Also has the Breedlove roof spoiler. Fun cars!!
I bought a 69 mustang Mach1 4 speed. Still have it today. And still looks new.
Lucky man.
You are one of the lucky ones! Definitely blessed!
Now that's a good story
Royal maroon in color?
I wished I still have red 69 Ford mustang Mach 1
Ah - hindsight is always so clear. Of course collecting $60,000 in 1969 to buy 10 cars would have been quite a feat. And storing them safely and maintaining them for 53 years wouldn't be cheap. But what a thrill to walk into a building and see those pretty ponies waiting to see the light of day -- glorious!
May be a good idea to buy a c4 corvette now if you can. These cars are starting to get into classics in a few years.
My first car a 1969 Roadrunner with a 383 Magnum with a 4 speed. Bought it in 1973 used. No AC or power brakes or steering. But it would move and move fast. I installed a Lear 8-track under-dash player and my first album played was Joe Walsh James Gang. Paid $900 for that car and within a few weeks met my first wife on a date in that car. 49 years later the car is gone, wife is gone, and my family is gone. Great memories.
I tell the younger folks, that I listened to 8-track tapes or cassettes. ?????They????
I'm 75, ( 23 in 1969) & that year was great in many ways, i.e.Moon Landing, Woodstock, Muscle Cars, etc! I had a '64 Pontiac then, that I kept till 1982! Dated my future wife that year & married in '70. Still married 52 yrs. later, but almost lost her to heart problems 2 yrs. ago! Sorry to hear of your losses!
'69.5 was the best 383 version believe it came with 440 heads, which gave the 383 a bit more bite (not sure why, maybe the factory ran out of 383 heads? or maybe they needed to make quota for their Nascar production car, qualification...)
I wish i had kept my 1969 plymouth roadrunner ! I miss that car!!
I had one too. 383 bored and stroked.
My 68 Roadrunner already had a couple of modifications when I purchased it in 1975. A Hurst competition 3 speed racing shifter on the floor from on column. Electric fuel pump, which I never used. American racing wheels all around. Then I sunk 1500 into the 383 , with 11-1 compression, Edelbrock manifold, Holly 650 cfi drilled Out for 8 secondary spray feeds. 4.11 Posi- trac rear end. That changed the car Into a missile. Timed at Bandamier , Morrison Co. Low 11s. Had not sold this Plymouth it may have fetched 80k now.
You don't know what you have until it's gone.
Me too.
Same
My first car was a 66 Mustang convertible and paid 400 dollars for it. Second car was a 67 Mustang fastback with 390 and 4 speed. Paid 500 dollars for it. This was in 1976 and now I’m 63 years old. If only I could go back with a pocket full of money. Thanks for the video.
My family owned a Chrysler/ Plymouth dealership from 1960-1985. We had a 69 Superbird with a 440 sitting on the showroom floor, couldn’t sell it, people thought it was ugly, finally transferred it to another dealership. My Dad told me I should buy it and forget I owned it for 50 years. I didn’t because he didn’t know anything. Ya, right. Lol
You must mean a '69 DAYTONA ???? Super Birds were '70 only....
You mean '70 Superbird. Chrysler didn't make a '69 Superbird, it was the Dodge Daytona in '69. Plymouth came out with the 'Superbird the following year.
Interesting how our fathers get smarter as we get older.
@@arthilliker3721 correct, 70 it was. My brother had a 69 GTX.
@@RDMash I stand corrected. It was
Our family collectively had several 1969 autos. AMC Javelin, Chevy 3/4 ton pick up, a four door and a two door, Chrysler 300’s. Each had the 440 with a four barrel and both would snap your neck back when you put the foot down in big heavy smooth quiet white knuckle power.
At one time I owned a 69 AMX with a 390 ci I raced a Corvette and beat it. The only other javlin that used same interior is the sst but of course that car had a rear seat and longer
My sister bought a 68 super bee. My parents bought me a 71 Charger RT cowl injection 440,357 pistol grip hurst shifter.for 5100 dollars. In high school. In 71…watching the Barrett-Jackson auction. I cried…
1969 was the greatest year for Cars. I had a Roadrunner 383 & a Ranchero Rio Grande 351 !
Would been one of the 440 six packs, super Bee,or Roadrunner,1969 car of the year 😉👍
A friend of mine bought a '69 Superbee six-pack from MR. NORM"S dealership in Chicago when they first were available. That vehicle screamed "POWER".. Unbelievable! He regrets selling it of course! His ex-girlfriend keyed it immensely when she accused him of cheating on him cuz he was gone for long periods of time. He was beyond heartbroken as he was out blowing the doors off of Chevelles, Goats, 442's, & Rambler Scramblers in '69. I've never seen a man cry so much when a woman would do that. I mean really, who would trash such an amazing vehicle that your man loved? I would never be with a female who was jealous of my car. 🤔😳😭
Finally! A muscle car classic collection with excellent writing, art, and production values. Their choice of cars is interesting!
Just one problem, I was only 12 years old in 1969, the dealers wouldn't accept drool, cash only. But 53 years later, I still have all the brochures I collected
My high school ride was a 1969 Mach 1. Paid $500 for my baby. Unfortunately, like so many others, it was sold for practicality. Fast forward decades, I now own another 1969 Mach 1. Different color, same thrill. This stallion will never be sold! I feel like a teenager again when I drive that baby! Life is too short to drive boring cars! ❤
My first brand new car was a '69 Charger 500! bought it off the lot in Reseda CA. Had 440 with auto trans, A/C PS PB AM radio and factory sport wheels with beauty rings! Also came with rust from the factory! NO CHARGE! Real fast & real nice to drive. Setting next to it was a '69 Coronet base model nothing on it but a 426/425HP dual quads beast! Could have got the Hemi car for $3000!! But said no because no PS & no PB just an auto trans! Hindsight!! The 375 HP 440 was fast enough for this 21- year- kid
When I was in the military in '72, a civilian friend had a hemi Charger 500, red, with a 4 speed in line shifter. He spent $2,500 to send the engine to Keith Black in CA to have him rebuild & blueprint it. He wound up with so many speed parts it sometimes scared him to drive it. He did a hard dead stop take off one evening & all you could see were 2 rooster tails of fiery sparks shooting up about 10', from the tires being flattened out & the rims contacting the pavement. Certainly, the scariest car I've ever ridden in.
Being in the military and getting only $121 per month, made any of these totally out of affordability. I did come home and later purchased a 69 Hurst SC/Rambler, 66 Mustang, 69 AMX, 70 Charger, any of which I would love to have now. Oh wait, I do still have a 69 AMX that is sort of special to me.
Lucky You!
I bought my brother's '68 Road Runner when he was deployed to Japan. I traded it for a '70 Duster that had white bucket seats and wood insets. Some guy plowed into me the next week. They wouldn't total it, so it ran fairly well until my later ex-husband totalled it for real in '78.
1969 was the best year for muscle cars. Owned a 69 Vette, 69 Z28 and a 69 GTO. Wish I still had them now. lol
Ah, but foresight is always better. I didn't get the Coronet RT with a Hemi, but I did get the Coronet Super Bee with the 383 Magnum and a 4-speed for around $3300. And it still sleeps in my garage until the chance of rain is 10% or less. Then it comes out to set the pavement on fire. Don't ask if it is for sale, 'cause the answer's still "NO!" and has been for 53 years.
I bought a '69 Super Bee in March '71, for $2,100. It was immaculate. Was a 383 Magnum, 3 speed Torque Flight. What a monster. Squealed the tires at 60 mph & did a 2 block smoke out until I let off. I kick myself to this day for ever getting rid of it. But, in 1973 insurance for it was $800 per year. And, that possibly could've been liability only. Was 22 when I sold it for $1,200. The friggen government was on a quest to get rid of muscle cars & they certainly made them unaffordable with the high insurance rates for young guys.
No, keep it!!! My friend bought a 69 1/2 Super Bee 6-pak from MR. NORMS in Chicago way back when. He still has it in his garage in Wisconsin. He wouldn't let me wash it or detail it bcuz I was a woman & he thought I'd use the wrong types of Q-tips?? for detailing? How anal, but I did understand how much he loved that special car! ❤😳😆
I bet that's the first thing asked. How much ya take for it. My first car was a 66 Chevelle. You still have yours I don't. Good luck to you.
J THE V by any chance have you had your Coronet Super Bee appraised? Curious as to what that puppy is worth..
@@cathyberry9579 I AM a woman. In the course of the 22 years I was with my husband before he died, I let him drive the car only 5 times. And my heart was my mouth each of those 5 times that he'd wreck it. So I bought him a 72 'cuda.
Wish I still had my 1970 Dodge Challenger convertible. I only paid $1,600 for it in 1974. Even back then, that wasn't much money..High.performance 383 cu in. 335 hp. Best car I've ever owned.
My ex wife's dad owned the '69 ZL1 Camaro with the all aluminum V8. It was a dusty garage queen, but 100% complete, straight and rust free. He passed in 2008 and I think she sold it with his tools (retired mechanic) for around $100k in 2010? They said something about $800k in this video.
Cute! I had an orange ‘69 Firebird. My friend a ‘69 Torino. Loved them.
There's an original concourse 69 Gold RR with it's original 426 Hemi, 4-speed, bench seat where I live. Owner bought it new in 69. It's reported to be one of the best conditioned originals in the country. It's an amazing machine to look at.
In 1969, I bought my 1970 Dodge Charger. Bright red with black vinyl top and black bucket seats. It was my first car and I loved it. I think it cost about $3100
In my past I owned a '67 383 Charger, a '68 440 GTX, a '69 383 Road Runner, a '70 440 Road Runner, and lastly, a '71 Charger SE. I weep when I see what they'd be worth today if I'd kept them......
69 boss 429 . Baddest of the bad. 69 426 superbee with trac pak. 69 GTX.440 6 pk with air grabber hoodscoop. 69 396 nova, 69 RSSS 396 camaro. 69 440 6pk charger. 69 428 SCJ mach 1. 69 Boss 302 .69. 427 chevelle SS 69 RS Z28 camaro.
Good choices, Just add a1969 Torino Talladega
Also 1 big thing i miss today..front bench seats
Lucky 🍀 in the front bench seat, with your girl letting you shift between her sitting in the middle. Prrrr
The thing I really miss from cars of that era are the vent windows.

So many of these Muscle cars were going dirt cheap when in 1977 gas hit $1 a gallon! Today you would have to win the lottery to buy these cars today!
I bought em all between ten and 40 years old for pennies on the dollar. Some ran, some didn't. Started my own mini hobby junk yard. Still have my favorites. 442's
I bought a 1970 Mach 1 Mustang from a buddy of mine in 1973, it had 50K miles on it, paid $1800. I drove it for 10 years and sold it for $1800. How I wish I still had that car. My roommate in college had a 1969 442, years later he traded it in on a Porsche, he has always regretted it.
We all have regrets about the cars that we sold. We had no crystal ball So please don't feel like the Lone Ranger here. We sold so many muscle cars with many regrets. Who knew? 😭
Hey, my first car was also a 1970 Mach 1 and also purchased in 1973! I paid $2500 for mine as it had very low miles and was in mint condition. I was an idiot kid and totaled it about 2 years later. I also still miss that car!
Add me to the list. I had a 66 stang and sold it when the money got tight. I should have begged, borrowed, or stolen to keep that car. Still kicking myself. 😥
We purchased a 1969 GTX for 5k in 1990. Sold it in 1998 for $7500 bcuz it was not the original motor. Back then it was all about matching numbers. Nowadays it's about production numbers. For that car about 14 thousand? Just sold a 1970 Chevelle SS396 for 60k with original motor. Production numbers 155,000? Things have changed, no doubt here. Should have kept the Mopar, as it was fun to drive. No power steering like the Chevelle, but it was a head-turner for certain! Once again, who knew? Special memories! Plus many regrets as others have. 🤔🙄😪
Bought the Chevelle for 6k in 1993!
Enjoyed this video! Thank you.
My first car was a 1969 Camaro…..loved that car so much I bought another one, when I was 55 years old….it’s a work in progress but I have fun with it…..
'69 Daytona also had the Charger 500 roof. i.e...flush mounted rear window.
I own an original 68 Torino Gt Coupe. 390. Repainting it back to original green.
THE BOMB !!! A trip down memory lane...
That Mod package in the Barracuda is WILD!! Not sure how I feel about it but $440,000 🤩 WOW
I was 9 year's old in '69 but I would have bought a Mopar. I was hooked on Mopar's and a '69 Formula S Barracuda would have been my first choice. In '71, my older brother picked up a '67 Barracuda notchback. Beautiful car. I have a '71 340 Challenger convertible now. She need's TLC right now but she still gets to me in a good way. Truthfully, they are all great.
Thank you so much for driving the stake deep into my heart lol. 😉
Pretty fun to watch & contemplate what the top contenders would be. I'd say one of the "missed" cars from that list would be a '69 Shelby GT 500 Convertible. I'd bump the Torino GT 428 from the list. 10 regular production cars for this list in my book would be: Hemi Daytona, Trans Am RA IV Convertible, COPO Camaro, BOSS '9 Mustang, BOSS '9 Cougar, Shelby GT-500 Conv, Coronet R/T Hemi conv, Six Pack Roadrunner, Six Pack Super Bee, Hemi GTX.
Everybody forgets about the GTX 440 my neighbor had one brand new I was 10 he was 17 he kept it 3 days and his father sold it
Actually any convertible.
COPO 427 camaro
My dad had this opportunity, except it wasn't cars, it was P-51 Mustangs. They were fresh from the assembly line, in crates, never assembled, and being chucked at whoever wanted them for $1,500.00 each in 1955, which is just shy of $16,600.00 today. A flying P-51-D goes for over $2 million today.
Myself the first 2 on the list would be a Z-28 and a Boss 302. But that's just me.
I am a Mopar guy, but have to say, you could do a lot worse than your two favorites
In 69 I was cruising on my metallic green Schwinn Stingray. Dang right!
That's funny!
The MOST iconic and awesome bikes EVER!!
Cwazie. I grew up in the time when these special cars were available. I personally had a 1973 super duty Trans Am. I would give anything to have that car back. I never had a opportunity to buy one of these special cars, but I did have a opportunity to buy a 71 hemi Cuda for $5500. Was early 80's and I went to the super duty that was purchased for $1800.
The Pontiac dealer in my town had the last S.D. , real wood dash , totally decked out.
I had a 1973 Plymouth Satellite 318 V-8 that looked just like the police cars on "Columbo." Kept it nineteen years and 237,000 miles. Went through three engines, two transmissions, two rear ends, the driver's door hinges, and two collisions with body work at both ends; reupholstered twice, and repainted once. The windshield wiper motor was original. I finally got rid of it in 1992 when I moved to Ohio and it wouldn't start reliably in the winters. If they still made them today with fuel injection and a slightly more economical engine, I'd get another tomorrow.
My mom had that car... '74 Satellite Custom 318 2 brl. (same one that was basically in every client eastwood cop movie) From like '75 thru '86, original engine transmission and id even k how many miles. think it went all 0's twice. So... u must have drove yours like u stole it.
I had its twin, the Dodge Coronet in "DARK YELLOW GREEN METALLIC.' Great color, but "The Green Latrine" was a bit more - uh - mercurial on its build quality and reliability. It was a great-looking car, with a roofline designed as a four-door instead of some modified stretched version of the Charger, sold as a mid-size but with the room of an Impala, but it would literally go out of alignment backing off the alignment rack, door hinges, valve lifters, transmission issues, clutch, the column shift linkage.... and when I went in for voltage regulators (frequently) the parts clerk asked the serial number then thumbed through several parts catalogs until he found the current supplier. If I'd been shopping for a muscle car in '69, I would have prowled through the used lots looking for something fiberglass: a '63 Avanti built by Studebaker, preferably the R2 supercharged model, though with global warming (we have hindsight going for us, remember, I might have ticked the R1 normally aspirated engine, three-speed stick with overdrive (rare dealer option). and factory air, and all the power accessories.
69 Charger RT was a smash. Make it purple. 383 4bbl under the hood with a 4-speed gives it lots of pull. Vrrrrooommm!
Great list, Well chosen a never ending debate what you should buy. Cheers Louis 👍
The closest thing to a hot rod I had I guess was a 1967 GTO convertible with a Hurst his and her shifter that I bought as a second car for the kids to drive back and forth to school etc. They loved it !
That was an awesome GOAT to own.. Lucky you!
In November 1969 I was 10 years old and we went down 2 Hollywood and my dad traded in his 57 Olds 98 which he bought brand new on a new 69 Plymouth Fury 3.He bought it 4 $3,200.
i learned a lot, thanks!
Really awesome interiors not often shown in other videos. I hadn't seen a floral vinyl roof with matching seats before ! Years ago I had a book on Muscle cars that showed a Paisley print interior that blew my mind. Being English and born in '69, these were my dream cars as a kid , while some had Ferrari posters , I had a green '66 Pontiac GTO poster 😊
I wish I never sold the only new car I ever bought. 1970 Challenger T/A
Outstanding video, A true highway star 🤘
Glad to see you included the Ram Air IV GTO - most forgotten and unfortunately poorly marketed.
Not forgotten if you are lucky enough to own one
Really enjoyed this one. God bless
I had a 1966 fastback mustang and traded that for a 383 charger super bee two months before I was shipped to Vietnam. Would like to have them now.
thank you for your service! i salute you. God bless America
You made it threw a he'll of War. You should get anything you ask.thanks for serving.
Was your 69 super Bee 383 4-speed from Hawaii? Mine was Hawaii plates on it when I bought it, wish I'd never sold it it's still haunts me 😎 thank you for your service USA 🤠 get R done
In 1971, when I was stationed at Ft. Sill, OK. I bought a 1969 Dodge Dart GTS with a 383, 4bbl, and a Hurst 4 speed. I put headers on it and it was hot. Was just like the green Barracuda shown in this video. But then I got sent to Germany and stored it at home, or so I thought. My Dad sold it and I've never seen another like it.
In 1970 I was 18. By late 1971 in Ohio, I had a good job at Chrysler. I owned a '68 Roadrunner, Hemi 4spd, a 69 383 Roadrunner and a 68 Charger R/t 440 4spd. memories, long ago....by the way, thanks for all you folks commenting here, and the love for the old American muscle, no matter who made it...!
My dad was doing a deal on a 1969 Dodge Daytona Charger off the showroom floor of Canoga Park Dodge, They we're giving them away, and he just happened to be looking while my Mom was shopping. He went back to the Mall picked her up brought her back to the dealership showed her the car... And she hated the pointed nose and the big wing on the back. Who knew?
I’d buy a 1969 Camaro Z/28, 1969 Corvette L-88 & 1969 Chevelle SS396
Smart dude!
Whoops-:smart dudette!!
Had a 68 Dodge Coronet R/T 440 with the Hurst 4 speed Superbird shifter. Only came on the no console with bucket seats option. Must have been at least three feet long, making the throw between gears almost the same length. Cops used to park at the end of my street waiting for me to bust out my driveway. Turned down an opportunity to buy a bank repo 70 Chevelle SS 454 for 3k.
I picked up a 68 coronet R/T 15-20 years ago. No rust ever, It was turned into a drag car early in its life, 440 hi-rise two 4's, Dana 60. Unfortunately someone changed it into an automatic, I'd like to find a 4 speed and put it back on the road or sell it
Great stuff!
Had a 73 Duster 340 red with 2 white strips from the front fender all the way to the quarter panel and then on both 340,In addition had a 83 Hurst Olds with 2 shifters on the low counsel and t tops silver with spoiler on the rear trunk black strips with Hurst Olds on the fenders air induction on the hood on both sides cloth interior black beautiful piece of machinery.Thank you.
My dad ordered the 1969 428 Super Cobra Jet Ranchero , black on red with the 4speed. My first car, my dad bought for my college commute, was a 1970 Oldsmobile 442, and the first car I bought was a 1969 Pontiac GTO, it had the original 400 in it, I swapped a 428 out of a 66 Catalina convertible, and that was by far, the quickest car I ever drove. I haven’t got my foot on Tesla yet…..
I used to have a 1969 Pontiac Firebird conv. With a tuned 350 (around 400hp) and custom paint.
I had the same year but a different version the 69 Firebird hardtop overhead cam inline (straight) 6 only 230 horsepower but it still could jump kicking myself for selling it for 4,000 20 years ago
"One quick Ford" he says. LOL great video.
Cool video and liked. Wishing you a good weekend also.
Great Video My 1st car in 1965 Mustang My Brother had a GTO how we miss our cars
Well...it's not a 1969...BUT it's a 19701/2 Malibu 396 V8 "HEAVY CHEVY" I bought it in 1977 for $1,500 from my aunt (Who bought a 1977 Corvette Stingray) it was my high school pride & I still have it...I was 17 years old in 1977..I'm now 63 years young & Love to see peoples faces at Car Shows..I've been offered $50,000 for it by a local attorney here in Arizona
Heavy Chevy would have been a 71 or 72. Single headlamps with the quad round taillamps.
Great video!!!!!!!!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍
I bought a '70 Ford XL, loaded 429 for $3868. Took delivery October 1,1969 at Floyd Rice Ford in Detroit. Could've bought a 429 Boss Mustang for $5500. Back then in the mid west, it was impossible to have a rust free 4 or 5 year old vehicle, especially Mopars. Mopars had fantastic drivetrains, too bad the bodies didn't hold up to salted winter roads. Back then , cars didn't rust, they disintegrated in no time. The XL got T-boned by a truck exactly 1 year later. Took the insurance money and plunked it down on a 3 bedroom brick ranch. Sold the house in '77, made 18k. Bought a 3 year old T-Bird that soon was rusted and paint was flaking off. I knew guys who readjusted and realigned panels as soon as they took delivery of their new car. Great quality, not.
I am not related to you, but, I had a brother, Robert J. Christie. We are from Brooklyn, N.Y.C...........I HAD a 1969 Hemi RoadRunner bought new in 1969. WISH I had it now !!!!!!!
@@charliechristie2949 how much cash was it
I know what you mean. Rust got all the muscle cars in Ontario Canada.
@@mckessa17 I swear Windsor and it's suburbs used more salt than we did in Detroit. Still do.
Robert.. Dang my friend! That's such a fantastic story. Thanks for posting your reply.. I've had pretty much all these "styles" of cars.. but never the Loaded big motor ones.. (cept for the 68 396 4spd camaro, and the 68 vette).. I would buy them all clapped out and fix em and such.. Good to see they included the 67-69 baracuda A body.. Had a few This video made my day.. DMAX
In 1969 I was only 13 so I little too young to drive but my dad did get a 69 cougar with a 351 engine and I did my driving test in that same car in 1975
They never made a bad car in 1969...I have owned many of them over the years. I still own a 69 Winnebago motor home. 17 ft. In very good condition..plan on driving route 66 with it this, winter
Meanwhile, at the other end of the block... I once had a '78 Renault 5 (branded as "Le Car" in the USA), with the optional rubbery sunroof that made it very similar to a convertible. It was a "Deluxe" version, meaning that the wheels were 13" (instead of 12"), with 4 lug nuts (instead of 3), and you could open the rear windows a little. It had a 1.3 liter engine, producing 58 hp.
Sounds sweet 😁
I had a friend that had one of those. We called it the “Lee car”. There was only barely enough room between the steering wheel & dash for your fingers to fit while holding the wheel. He hated it. I don’t blame him. Thankfully, I had a 280Z! 😄
But you had a pure French auto when renault was more French than the tricolour x
Love the Shady Gearhead Resthome! 🤣 I love all these cars. They're all bad ass.
Had a 70 Cougar Eliminator with a 428 4 speed. If I could only turn back time it would not get away again
69 Roadrunner post Dealers special 383 4 speed 411 posy. Acid dip body! Looked like a post parking lot Night Mare. 64 Barracuda sports lights silver black interior Commander V8. Just fun to drive.
It was rather hard to buy a muscle car in 68 or 69. I was priced a new 396/375 Camaro for $3600. The payments were a doable $100 a month. But the insurance was another $100/month. If you brought home $100 a week in those days you had a pretty good job.
Bought a Cortez Silver 69 L88 427, M22, J56, K66, 3.7 Posi, factory supplied headers, side-pipes and flares, no radio, no air and no power steering. Fitted10 inch US Indy mags, Guildstrand suspension, a radiator shroud and alloy fan, oil cooler and not much else, but man, what a ride. Sold it for a huge profit and although I would love to still own the car and realise it is worth a ton of money today, I used the sale price wisely and as a result have assets way in excess of it's value today because of it. And I still have the memories and photos. Probably the most travelled L88 in existence, having seen both street and some track use in the U.S. Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Germany, India and Australia. It is today 100% restored and original.
The funny thing is, I had some collectable cars as a young man in the early 70s, and let them all go. I did the math one day, and I either junked or sold cheap, (like $200 cheap) over $225,000 worth of really cool cars in today's dollars.
I had Challenger 440 sixpack and used to drive by a Daytona sixpack every day on my way to work for sale for $6000. Almost went for it!
While it's not a 6 figure sale, I have a 1969 Javelin SST, 290, 4 speed manual fitted with the Sidewinders. My father restored it back in the early 80s. It was purchased from the original owner who was one of my HS football coaches and teachers. You don't see many of them at events. That's one thing I really like about it.
I had a A Super Bee and A Roadrunner!
Had a 69 AMX 500 Special once. Big Bad Green, 390 four speed with factory Hurst quick shift. Unfortunately, I almost killed myself in it being stupid. Still have the engine. Maybe some day I can build another one. Older and wiser now.
AMX’s were so cool my dad used to build them when I was a kid bad ass cars gorgeous body styles
I’d be happy with the cars in my own neighborhood. There was a Shelby GT350, a 69’ SS 396 Camaro, a 68 383 Road Runner, a 68’ RS Camaro and a 69’ 427 Vette. Lowly me; I rolled around in 66’ Corvair Monza.
I graduated in the 80's, muscle cars were just old cars to us and could have been bought dirt cheap back then, like $3000 tops. People (including my father) used to always says cars were bad investments, over the years I've come to realize they were dead wrong.
I was making good money at 16 (1969) but I wouldnt part with my 59 Pontiac Bonneville hardtop w/389. Topped her out at 145mph and loved it. My next car was a pontiac sprint (73). Then a few years later I had a 72 cougar w/302 in it. Wow ! What a road eater ! Good vid though. I also liked the GTO as a favorite.
Cool video. Wish I knew then what I know now.
Love it!!!!!!
Great video
If I had 10 mill...I'd be buying quite a few classics..also to drive for the fun of it on some Arizona/old west roads Like 69 Road Runner's/Super Bird's/Daytona's/Pontiac GTO's and Judge's..70 Ford Torino GT's and Cobra's/Mustang Boss...58 Plymouth Fury's and Belvedere's/Chevrolet Impala's...57 Chrysler 300c's
I did buy a 70 charger Rt 440 six pack 4 speed brand new out of the show room back in when the 70ths came out
In 1971 my brother bought a 70' Boss 302 Mustang, he drove it for a few years and parked it, in1975 he wanted to buy a white 74' Corvette. I went with him to see it and at the time I was 16, we were looking at the Corvette and I got in an argument with him in front of the owner of the Corvette and told him" you can buy Corvettes all day but you will NEVER find another Boss". He still has it to this day.I could have bought a blue Boss 429 in 78' for $3500 , it need work but it was in good shape.

Yeah, LOL.. I should have jumped up out of my crib, walker or stroller. Crawled right up to my parents and demanded an advance on my allowance. Yeah, 3 days old and I'm getting an allowance, it could happen. Then bring dad with me to the car lot because mom never drove and I'm too small to reach the pedals. I couldn't talk but maybe I could point to the cars I wanted. If you could give me a few more months it would be 1970, but I think I could pull off my first words COPO, HEMI, Boss..
Bought a 340 “cuda” in the late 70’s . Still have it . When I rebuilt it I never thought it would be worth the money it is today .
Ok... that's it. I'm going to work on time travel.
I remember in the mid and late 90s an unrestored Superbird or Daytona was less than 30k in autotrader magazine...and restored mopars with 440-6 regularly sold for 30k or less and 426 Hemi cars were less than 40k...and we thought that was expensive back then, well it was actually...everything is relative...
My dads first car was a 68 442 convertible with a factory 4 speed. He bought it for 2200$ at a used car dealership in 1971.
