Me too, thank you! 😊
Purple Heart nearly put me in the ground. I'm thankful you bailed out when you did.
😊
So sorry you got ill but I'm so glad you did this educational video to warn other turners! Great job Phil 👏
Thanks, Duchess! Doing better, now! 😊
Smart man. Enjoy your drive! You seem to have rousted some birds as you fled! LOL!
Haha, they are all over the place, here! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop They sure dance well, together! :D LOL!
Glad you’re feeling better.
😊
We see so many beautiful bowls being produced and the whole process made to look so seamless that the actual dangers can (and are) overlooked. I think this is a timely reminder that your health and welfare are far more important - and to thank you for uploading this video showing one of the unforeseen problems a woodturner may face. I am glad you are now feeling better. And, as for Tuffy, please keep sending Phil pieces of wood to turn. Your kindness in this regard is well noted.
Thank you, Angela! 😊
Holy cow! I’m glad you’re ok!
😊
It takes a wise man to realise when he’s had enough Phil. So glad you did the wise thing and hope you’re fully recovered by now. See you next time.
😊
Oh,no! You lived to tell the tale!
Yay, me! 😊
Wow! I’m so glad there weren’t any long lasting problems from whatever was in that wood. Close call for you but no one’s fault except the person who originally sold it and maybe he didn’t know either. A jaunt on your jazzy “vehicle” is the perfect prescription for a complete recovery! 👍💕😊
Thank you, BobbieJean! 😊
Glad you're ok, Loved the ending of the video!!😊
😊
I am so glad you are well. That is what matters Sr.
Thank you, Reba! 😊
Wow! That’s was interesting. Good thing you stopped when you did Phil. Also I love your 4 wheeler. Lots of acceleration in that one.
That thing will go anywhere and in a hurry, Cosmo! 😊
Ouch!! I'm glad there were no lasting effects!
Me too! 😊
Glad you are OK. Great little set of wheels!
😊
So glad you are okay, Phil. I clicked 'like', but I of course am not happy for that close call with your health. Take care.
All good now, Colleen, thank you! 😊
Like we used to say back in my railroading says “STOP THE TRAIN”. Glad you stopped when you did Phil…
😊
Glad you were safe😊
😊
Gosh Phil, a nice looking burl turned nasty 😢 take care & recover, cause we all want to see u again next week 😊
Thanks, Karen! 😊
WOW that's incredible glad you're okay! Maybe take it to your nearest University and see if they can tell what's going on with it! NICE weeler stay safe in it Phil!👍
Thank you, I will 😊
Good call to trash that burl! We all want you safe and well.
😊
Love that side by side
Me too! 😊
So glad you’re doing ok! See you next time.
😊
Wow Phil! Glad you’re recovered. Take care of yourself.
😊
Wow glad you're ok Phil!

Thank you, Leona! 😊
So good to hear that what ever it was is now cleared up, Thank you for the warning and sharing
😊
Very wise move, better safe than sorry.
😊
Wow Phil, so glad you are alright and knew when to stop! Thanks for sharing this. It's so important to keep reminding each other that while this is a wonderful craft, it is not without risks. Especially after everything you've been through the last year or so, grateful you're ok. 💗
Thank you, Kim! 😊
Darn man. Scary stuff. Glad you bailed when you did!
😊
I agree with the one person that said they were glad you bailed out on this turn. Your health is more important than any piece of wood. I appreciate this video for the knowledge it gives. Keep taking care of yourself we want you around. Have a great day and hope we see you soon on another video.
Workin' on the next one now, Lynda, thank you! 😊
WOW I know the feeling. good u left it. best to b safe. Phil
Scary stuff, Manjit! 😊
🙋♂️🏴 Hi Phil wasn't expecting that to happen, but so glad you're ok. Nice shot of you on your, I don't know what type of vehicle it is, but your sure looked cool. Keep smiling 🤗🤗
Thank you, John! It's what we call a Side By Side, two seater mostly off-road vehicle but I drive it around the city quite a bit. 😊
I'm glad you are doing better. It looked like a nice burl.
😊
glad you are all right and knew when to put that piece away... NICE BURN OUT HOT ROD... love yall...
Thanks, Jack! 😊
Wow! Glad you're OK.
Thank you! 😊
It was going to be a nice piece Phil, but I'm glad that you have decided to not work with it anymore. Hope everything is OK. Keep it going, it's a real pleasure to watch you at work 👍
Thank you! 😊
Sorry you had problems. I am glad you stopped when you did. But looks like you headed out to get some good fresh air.
😊
Looks more like a grown-over limb scar filled with some substance. I’ve seen Douglas fir stumps and severed limbs do that. You may have been onto something with creosote. Hope you’re well. EDIT: The more I think about it the more I wonder if it was a stump that, upon having the tree removed from it continued pumping sap or whatever up onto the stump where it collected in the basin formed by living wood. A significant clue is those voids between the growth rings on the bottom. They didn’t all look like they were caused by a decay process. Again, I’m very doubtful it’s a burl, at least in the usual sense.
Thanks, Ethan. 😊
After reading your message, I agree. I was thinking about those ring gaps also, not typical. Good information
Glad you are okay, thanks for sharing 👍
😊
Boy oh boy, Phil. That "wood" was lethal! I had to laugh at the end of the video. You're a bit of a lead foot, huh?😉 See ya!
😊
Be well, my friend!!
😊
Wel,, that could have ended badly! Thankfully you recoverd from an unknown danger!
😊
Stay well, buddy.
😊
That's a shame! That Burl is pretty. Don't feel bad Tuffy! You couldn't have known. So glad you're OK Phil!
😊
I am still keeping my fingers crossed for Phil. I also will look very close to any future wood I send that's for sure!!!.... TM
Like you say one never knows till they start on a piece yeh , hope you've fully recovered now, all the best from Lincolnshire
Doing fine now, Gary! 😊
Good to watch Phil as always - I can't help thinking your Kawasaki escape was the right thing to do!
For sure! 😊
Phil, glad you are ok. Just reminds us that our hobby is not a safe one.
Sometimes! 😊
Phil, I laughed so hard at this after you said it would chase you down the street! Glad you came out of it OK. Love your videos!
Thanks, Scott! 😊
Glad you are alright Phil! Too bad that happened, that was a really interesting piece of wood! And, I think Tuffy, knew exactly what he was doing, I wouldn't trust him! Just kidding! LOL!
LOL! Thanks, Bryan! 😊
GERRRRRR😖😖😖😖😖😖 (I am so glad Phil is OK now) .. also.. (I wouldn't trust that "Tuffy" dude either, ha).... TM
Phil. Glad you are okay
😊
Phil, I love your channel. Not sure that's a burl. I think it is a callus.
😊
Smart move. Got have an enjoyable ride.
Yes indeed! 😊
lad you were able to get thru this. thank god someone was watching over you from up above. definitely do not burn it either. take care
Thank you, Wendy! 😊
Gad to see you make the right call with that. I had a reaction to Hickory while building a set of cabinets years ago that put me in the hospital for five days. I don't build with Hickory any more. Looking forward to seeing your next video!
Good plan, stay safe! 😊
Dang glad your ok! Someone must of put something on the tree when they cut that branch?? Very cool vehicle!
Hard to know, Luie. I'm just glad I stopped! 😊
Love your dune buggy thingy. And the little birdies!
LOL! Yeah, those birdies are everywhere! 😊
Glad you're ok. Never heard that phrase "set it on fire and burn the house down". Funny.
😊
Wowzers! That is a bit scary. I'm glad you have recovered Phil.
😊
So glad you are ok, that was scary.
😊
Great exit! Nice toy!
😊
Whoa, I’m sorry Phil that happened. I’m glad you stopped when you did. 🙏❤️
😊
Wow! That could of been a close call! I'm so glad you're okay.
😊
So glad you're feeling better! I've had days working in my shop where I don't feel that great after a cpl hrs. And then realize that I hadn't been wearing my respirator. But nothing as bad as what you went through. See you on the next one Phil and stay safe and healthy!!!👍
Thanks, Ron! 😊
It’s possible that someone has already posted the same comments that I’m going to post. Decade upon decade ago and now I’m talking 50 years ago, it was for sure a practice to fix a wound in a tree or where a branch was cut off or broken to fill the cavity with tar. People used all kinds of tar including roofing cement. Chances are with increased temperature caused by your tooling they have gotten some not so wonderful vapors in fact I would bet that’s what happened. The refining of tar back in those days is a lot different than it is now. You did the right thing.
Could be and I believe you! My dad did the same but he used concrete. Not sure that would be so good for the chisel but it probably wouldn't give off fumes. 😊
Good choice, not worth harming yourself with 👍
😊
Glad to know you're all good... I plan to watch you for years to come. Best of health, happiness, and wealth to you and yours!!! Thanx 4 sharing and I'll keep watching!!! ✌️😎👍
Good to know, thank you! 😊
Glad you are ok
😊
Sure glad you did the right thing and decided not to finish it Phil. I never would have guess that was going to be the issue. I thought maybe it was just going to come apart. What you choose to do is a lot more fun than breathing what that was for sure. Now you have me wanting to get our quads out and head to the dunes! See you on the next one my friend, Gary
Oh, I'd love to go to the dunes! My side x side has been there but not me! 😊
We spent many vacations with the kids at the dunes. They still have quads but are busy with other things and we have not gone to the dunes for a number of years. Guess we could go ourselves. Might be time though to get them back into it. Winchester Bay and Florence have some great dunes.
@@ThePapa1947 We spent the night in the RV next to the dunes in Florence. Beautiful there!
We had a lot of buckeye trees on our previous farm but I never saw one that big. Very interesting piece.
😊
Wow!! Agreed watch what your turning. Glad your healthy.
😊
How bizarre. Wow glad you recovered! I hope you enjoyed your excursion! Be well.
😊
Whoa glad you're good now Phil, Love the vehicle :)
Thanks 👍
Oh my! I'm so glad you recovered from whatever it was that affected you from the strange piece of wood!
Thank you, Annette! 😊
Man!! Glad u got away when u did Phil and very glad u rebounded. Take care and thx!
😊
That was a bit of a worry, I suppose you wouldn’t know until the symptoms come on, glad you are okay and glad you bagged it and got rid off it, nice quad machine you have there, doing a burnout trying to catch up to Tuffy heading to the Mexican border 😂. All the best to you. Regards Jim
Haha, I dang near caught him, too, Jim! 😊
That's too bad Phil. I'm sure it would of been something great as usual. But agree that your health is more important. Have a great weekend Phil. And your 5/8" guage looks like mine. Time for a new one. Lol
😊
Your little green golf-cart is awesome!
My yard sale vehicle! 😊
Ohhhh the hidden dangers in the wood we work with. Hope you get to feeling better. Glad you showed what we could come accross. Keep up the amazing work. 👽
Yup, guess we gotta be careful all the time! 😊
Glad you are feeling better. Be safe. Glad it was a short one tonight I was working on a turning and had to stop to fix dinner now it's early I can go back to it
There ya go, Bum! 😊
Glad your'e OK, even with all the protective gear. Thanks for sharing, might save someone else someday.
😊
That's why I like watching you. I always learn something, you're always positive, and that was a fun exit. Hope it was a good drive.
Thanks, Mike! 😊
Wow Phil, I so glad you are ok. With that reaction you made the right choice. Nice Quad. Take care my friend and I'll join you for tea in the morning when I watch again. Cheers, Huw
Thanks, Huw! I think I'll blame the one I'm working on now on this one. My brain must still be foggy cause it ain't going so good! LOL! 😊
So glad you are OK. From the title I knew something was going to happen, but I didn't expect THAT! Hope your wee drive got some fresh air back into your lungs.
😊
Good choice!
😊
Thanks for showing this one , we all need a reminder that things are sometimes out of our control. Glad you ok
😊
Wow Phil, so glad you recovered from that quickly. Looking forward to the next one. Hopefully you had an enjoyable ride.
The ride was great, Mark! Gonna do it again today, hit some yard sales! 😊
I understand completely Phil, I'm looking forward to your next one, get plenty of rest my friend!
😊
So glad you are okay. Nice set of wheels. See you next week.
😊
Whoa! I was all ready to comment on the turning and then you distracted me with that awesome little ride you’ve got!!! Hope to see more of that! What a fun way to go gather wood! 😍 Glad you stopped that turning! I was so worried it was going to fly off, breaking into pieces! Hope there aren’t any lasting effects from that mystery wood! I’ll just look forward to next week’s turning.
Haha, I'm working on the next turning, now, Robin. Considering my problems with it, I do think maybe my brain was affected! LOL! Maybe I'll just stick with my Green Machine! 😊
Phil - I am VERY glad you stopped. Frankly it did not look good to me, but what do I know.
😊
Im used to seeing a burl with bark on it. All of the tiny swirls are wonderful!
😊
Oh my goodness Phil! So glad you recovered from that encounter. It would be a good idea to get it analysed to find out what caused that reaction. Partly because I'm bustin' with curiosity to know what it could have been that you reacted to but mainly because you need to know what to look out for. If its the man made substance someone put on the cut branch many years ago you can be alert to that when next you come across a piece of wood with a callus like that. If its the particular species of wood that caused it you'll know to steer clear of it from now on! Allergic reactions, if that's what it was and it sure sounds like it, often get worse on subsequent encounters so it would be prudent to know what youre up against. Stay safe Phil, see you on the next one.👍
Gosh Phil, can't have u unwell over a burl, it looked nice, but nice turned nasty 😢 hope u recover & are back to 💯% 😊 see u next week 🌟
Thanks, Jude. It's off the property, now! 😊
Wait what????
@@colleenchumbley8938 what?🤔😄
@@colleenchumbley8938 Yeah, it made me sick for a day or so. Only the second time that has happened in six years on here. 😊
Sometimes, it's better to admit defeat. No piece of wood is worth risking your health. The little John Deer looked more fun 😊. Have a great weekend, my friend.
Haha, my Kawasaki is insulted you called it a John Deere! We eat those for lunch! 😊
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Well, it was green, lol
Damn glad you're ok after that!!
😊
Sorry for you Phill hope you feel better soon and good luck with the next project
😊
So glad you showed us what can go wrong with wood and how it can affect our health. Your work is excellent. Keep on keeping on.
Thanks for watching! 😊
Good choice.
😊
Well sometimes you just gotta get away from the dangerous dust and go do something that's also fun. Hope your ride was as exciting as the take off ❤thanks for your words of wisdom
😊
