Libya's Quiet War: The Tuareg of South Libya

2016 ж. 16 Ақп.
4 319 244 Рет қаралды

In remote southwest Sahara, the indigenous Tuareg tribe - variously used and discriminated against by former strongman Muammar Qaddafi - fight for their place in a post-revolutionary Libya.
Living deep in Libya’s desert near large oil fields and lucrative smuggling routes, hundreds of miles from Libya’s capital, the Tuareg find themselves impoverished and isolated on this prized land.
Nowhere is this felt more than in the oasis town of Ubari. Here the Tuareg are pitted against former neighbors in a proxy battle for assets and power, backed by government and international interests.
VICE News travels to meet the Tuareg on the front lines of Ubari and the border town of Ghat, to find out what is really happening in this rarely visited land.

    • Right, its bc after these countries get rid of their dictators running the country, they can't agree on who should run the country now. So they split into diff gangs and just start murdering each other. This is why Africa will be a shit hole pretty much forever. The thing is that these 1st world countries could help African countries but when they do all the Africans want to do is try to kill the people trying to help them. These people are so Fucking stupid it makes me cringe.

When the French came to their land in the 19th century they were met by great resistence, because of this when the French left they devided their land between five countries as a reprisal of their resistence. Since then the Tuaregs have come into a difficult situation in all countrires where they live.

Like the way, talking about the person living in the tent, he said "it's the 21st century and someone is living like this." That's really interesting because in that area, everyone is living in run-down cinderblock houses at best. Even though he's probably never traveled more than 200 miles from home, he's aware of the kind of living conditions that people in the outside world are experiencing.
