The Central African Republic's capital of Bangui has seen its Muslim population drop from 130,000 to under 1000 over the past few months. Over the past year, thousands across CAR have been killed and nearly a million have been displaced. The United Nations recently stated that the entire Western half of the country has now been cleansed of Muslims.
CAR has never fully recovered from France's colonial rule, and it has only known ten years of a civilian government - from 1993 to 2003 - since achieving independence in 1960. Coup after coup, often with French military involvement, has led many to refer to the country as a phantom state. The current conflict has now completely erased the rule of law and order, and left the UN and international community looking confused and impotent.
In March 2013, the Séléka, a mostly Muslim rebel alliance, rose up and overthrew the corrupt government of François Bozizé, while bringing terror and chaos across the country - pillaging, killing and raping with impunity. In response, mostly Christian self-defense forces, called the anti-balaka, formed to defend CAR against Séléka attacks.
Clashes grew more frequent throughout 2013 as the Séléka grew more ruthless. In December 2013, French and African troops went in to disarm the Séléka and staunch the bloodshed. The anti-balaka, seizing on a weakened Séléka, then went on the offensive.
CAR had no real history of religious violence, and the current conflict is not based on any religious ideology. The fighting, however, turned increasingly sectarian in the fall of 2013, with revenge killings becoming the norm. And as the Séléka's power waned, the anti-balaka fed their need for revenge by brutalizing Muslim civilians.
"Too few peacekeepers were deployed too late; the challenge of disarming the Séléka, containing the anti-balaka, and protecting the Muslim minority was underestimated," Human Rights Watch said in a recent statement.
The bloodshed has not stopped. The UN is still debating whether or not to send peacekeepers. Even if a peacekeeping operation is approved, it will take six months for troops to be assembled.

You are lucky in the way that you were born in the right place at the right time. It is also not exactly possible to make major changes to a country with the snap of a finger. Even if everyone magically starts working together, it would take years for prosperity to return... Then slavery is abolished and ur ancestors get shitty jobs, then at some pt you are born and you get to attend good education and whatnot. Thats "luck", what your ancestors did was get abducted and sold as slaves, the reason you are now a well-off black guy in the US is because you got lucky with the time you were born.

    @sisisisi1111@sisisisi111110 жыл бұрын
    • That devil is European colonialism. They did the same with India. In India, Muslims and Hindus used to live peacefully as family. Then the British came in and carved Pakistan out of it and started an internal conflict that still is going on.

      @jaysekhon4726@jaysekhon472610 жыл бұрын
    • Jay Sekhon They weren't living peacefully. Many local hindu rulers resented Mughal rule prior to Britain colonizing india, and aided the british in kicking them out. And It was originally planned to have india as one nation, but religious violence BETWEEN indians THEMSELVES put an end to that idea. in fact the concept of india as one single nation was far fetched prior to Britain's rule. especially seeing as how it was a collection of very diverse and often warring kingdoms and ethnic groups.

Every other network abstracts you from the conflict by talking about it from a distance but these guys are literally in the trenches...getting footage of bloodied streets, disorganization, and real suffering...like watching as 2 men come to realize that they are likely going to die...now i'm never going to forget what that looks like and i thank vice for that. What good is the Hague? What good is Nato? What good is Christianity and Islam in that country? Their all in sore need of education, in sore need of compassion and in sore need of a real leader and international intervention , sadly that wont happen. We’ve all walked away from the light , we live in perpetual darkness and need to get back to the light , Jesus is the light , at a basic level his teachings if read , understood and practiced by the common man in this country would make a drastic change- even if the person doesn’t believe in Jesus but practiced his teachings the country would be in an absolutely different state, and that goes for any nation on earth , any group on earth , any home on earth. Nothing to do with the Old Testaments teachings, rather the New Testament. but that’s wishful thinking , and open to ridicule by atheists, nevertheless , if they did understand and practices the teachings of Jesus now that this country is a predominantly Christian country(what a joke) , peace would begin to flower , but something would come to disrupt this , after all , its hard for a crooked person or corporation or government to make money if there is peace and quiet, it would make its citizens take notice of what’s happening in their abundantly naturally rich country. There is a comment by an ex sniper on this comment section who talks about being on a peace keeping mission whilst looting their natural resources in Cameroon , it isn’t a conspiracy theory or anything of the sort but just the sad simple truth 😒😔🙁

If you compare evidence and interviews, you can find some truths. No one is an expert without a mistake, but no one will ever be a true expert. We have to learn to know, and we have to judge and say even if we haven’t been there to witness something- because sometimes we have to raise a hand.

    • And ain't no one just donating ammunition away for free. These people have a demand for weapons and guaranteed they'll always be able to find someone willing to sell. If guns were confiscated then they'd be using machetes to hack each other up. Weapons don't make people act violent. They've got massive internal civil struggles going on. It's so stupid to act like guns are somehow mind controlling these people into civil war.

    • @@smokedsalmon3907 What does the Central African Republic export, in order to make the money they need in order to import the trucks, gasoline, guns, ammunition? They don't _make_ any of it. They don't make much of anything else; they don't even grow enough food to feed themselves; Western charities ship in food, which the armies commandeer. So even though I never claimed anyone was shipping the ammo in for free, somebody probably is, because they can't afford it. Islamic countries probably ship ammo and guns to the Islamic factions, Communist countries probably ship them to any communist factions as they did in South Africa, and I wouldn't be surprised of the CIA ships them in if they can identify any factions that seem useful to U.S. or CIA interests. As for bullets mind controlling people... idk where you come up with that.

  • For the one who don't know, this has *nothing to do with religion*, it's not religion driven 'war'. It's actually the *overthrowing of the corrupted government*, an outcry of which caused revolutions and a number of these revolutions, ultimately formed Seleka (who happens to be mostly Muslims) to finally overthrow the government. But due to lawlessness, this had caused various of lawless acts. And Anti-Beleka (who happens to be Christians) then formed to fight against Seleka. Using the *term religious war is wrong*, similarly if someone were to say tribal war. For the news outlets to use these term is nothing but an opportunistic misusing of the term, used by the media to identify or create sides easier. (or maybe propagandizing to old enemies.) *This is a revolution*. _"Let me be clear, whatever you've heard about the so-called conflict between Muslims and Christians is false, is nonsense, is _*_opportunistic_*_. There hasn't been a religious struggle in this country for years."_ - Br. Yeelen Wolongo, Communaute Des Beatitudes, Bangui But recently, *they've stopped, announced ceasefire and signed a peace agreement.*

  • This - especially when the men were injured on the truck, and the guy was crying for his brother - broke my heart. I was in tears. This documentary did a good job of showing just how tragic and terrifying this is for normal people. Part of what was so awful was that the regular Christians and Muslims in Bangui were quite willing to live together, but instead have to suffer this kind of violence. Even those in the Seleka and the Anti-Balaka really want the same thing - peace and good governance. But how does a country come back from this? Excellent reporting.
