This is a work of art but, from a practical perspective in a working kitchen, I would slope the sides to create a solid piece. Having a solid piece with no bearings allows the chef to roll the dough accurately whereas a rolling pin with bearings would merely push the dough. Again, a beautiful work art.
I agree with you. Also, there’s a gap between the handles and the face of the rolling pin that would be hard to clean long-term. But I think it’s a beautiful work of art.
When I was training as a chef, my friend had a rolling pin like the one in the video. I never understood why she had such a hard time with rolling out dough till I tried using her rolling pin.
Well it depends on the type of dough you need to roll. For your typical butter cookie dough this type of roller requieres less efort. For croissants on the other end this would be difficult to get an even thin spread.
My first thought. Looks great but impractical for the job in question.
Maybe never rolled dough. At first, I was thinking Kickass Peppermill! when I saw the screw being glued in.- Excellent technique, though- THIS is what you do with scraps,,, Not those cheap videos where they make a useless ugly table or crappy sheetrock screwed up boxes, and call them jewelry boxes. Thanks for the calm.
I don't think I've ever seen such a pretty rolling pin until now. Very nice!
No one else did either I think
I love how it's just a simple kitchen item but made so nicely! That's what makes it so much warmer compared to one bought in a store. Would make such an awesome gift too)
Oh my goodness, that is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. Fun to watch, but the finished project is one of the prettiest rolling pins I've ever seen. An heirloom to be cherished and passed down for generations. Thank you for sharing.
Probably the most beautiful rolling pin in the word. The idea of taking different colours pieces of wood, and glue them diagonally together, is genius!! Pure ART!!
Absolutely stunning piece! I believe this is my favorite piece you've made so far. 💖💖💖
Another work of art by a true craftsman.
WOW! Loved seeing all the craftsmanship and the techniques used to make this rolling pin! Well done!
Beautiful! You always produce beautiful art.
Beautiful as always. You are such a clever, talented young man. I always enjoy watching you create.
Once again, I marvel at your rigs and jigs. The art is superb as well.
Absolutely beautiful. Some lucky person will treasure this.
Vraiment classe! J'ai beau voir tout le processus, le résultat final me bluffe toujours. Bravo!
That is absolutely beautiful!! You must have an enormous amount of patience to put that together. Kudoes!
Wow what a skilled wood turner. I’m sure anybody would be proud to own a rolling pin so beautifully crafted.👍🏻🥰
Absolutely gorgeous piece of artwork. I would love to display this in my kitchen. You did an incredible job Sir. 💜
I admire the mind that can conceive of these projects and the skill that brings them to fruition.
Belo trabalho
I admire you not trying to sound smart with you're fruittation words
The rolling pin came out beautifully, love the pattern 👍
Absolutely impressive... Great to see people building things with their hands...
My GOD man, that came out PERFECT! So beautiful!
You’ve proven again that there is beauty in everyday objects. Lovely design. Stunning! 👍
Our everyday objects should be beautiful to bring joy every time we use them. 💕
Absolutely incredible, and so cool to put bearings in too. I love it 😀
he didn't leave space to clean them up, those bearings are gonna roll smoothly at first but are also going to get full of flour and lock up eventually :(
Was a pleasure to watch you work, what a beautiful piece.
I would LOVE to own a French rolling pin with that design! Just beautiful!
Oliver, that is a beautiful piece! You have a flair for design.
I feel a reverence for your creations. They are awe inspiring.
Idiot it’s just simple turning !
@@tonywright8294 sorry you feel that way.
Olivier, you are a very gifted person. Thank you for your video....it's very relaxing.
Amazing, beautiful craftsmanship. Real talent.
If only I had these "scraps" in my workshop... :Ρ Great work!
Tes réalisations sont toujours aussi surprenantes
The custom roller steady rests are still my favorite… so nice 👌🏻
You are a true craftsmen. Simply beautiful work.
Je suis bluffé par les motifs colorés au final bien joué👍
Exelente trabalho uma peça bem feita!! Parabens vc é um super profissional
beautiful work as usual! You never cease to amaze.
Absolutely LOVE this, frigging awesome!
That is a beautiful rolling pin - well done.
Wholesome rolling pin comment :)
The iron in the rolling pin is superfluous. Glued handles are more practical. The bearings will definitely get clogged with flour... and how to wash them? The drawing is amazing! There are no questions about the drawing! Железо в скалке лишнее. Вклеенные ручки практичнее. Подшипники обязательно забьются мукой… и как мыть? Рисунок восхитительный! К рисунку вопросов нет!
This is georgous! Even if someone didn't bake, it's a beautiful decoration for any kitchen!!
super nice... amazing how the optic of the different wooden colours change from rectangular to round geometrical form
I saw this video originally a long time ago and have been searching for it ever since I got my lathe. The curving you have in there is spectacular and I am going to attempt to make a wood glass with a similar curve. Thanks for the inspiration.
C'est magnifique. J'adore ce que tu fabriques en général et binge watch tes vidéos :-)
I absolutely love woodworking, I love the smell of freshly cut wood so much and you can make so many cool things
Admirable cette vidéo ! Quel magnifique démonstration ! 😎
I'll be honest, I was distracted and didn't see the main barrel at the end of turning. So I got a "reveal" at the end. I did not see that pattern coming. Stunning. And so clever. It made me exclaim out loud.
Toujours un plaisir de regarder tes videos, tu as de l'or entre les mains ✋
You don't blather on during the videos but just let the work speak for itself...and that's what I appreciates about you.
Great looking rolling pin. Love the idea of using bearings. Good job. 👍👍👍
Wow. Now that is a gift any woman would appreciate.
I am a simple man. I see a hard working person. I subscribe 🔥🔥🔥
Beautiful, and it must take such experience and skill to plan this pattern in advance. Also a very understated and perfect ending was how you showed off the rolling pin at the end without any hands to focus attention on the craftsmanship and smooth rolling that the lucky recipient will experience. Thank you for the video.
YOU SIR ARE A MAGICIAN...I watched this three times while having my morning coffee I make rustic things with wood for the home but this is ... Just...WOW.....
Absolutely beautiful.
Love the definition of " a few scraps "
OMG ! Ur a TRUE wood craftsman. And ur craft is breathtaking ❤️❤️❤️
What a wonderful piece you made. I'm just starting out with my new lathe, so hopefully soon I'll be able to make something cool too. Thanks for giving me ideas :) I also bake, so this will be useful too.
The brace with rollerblade wheels is ...just absolutely genius
It's called steady rest... Brilhant indeed.
the skill of an excellent craftsman
Fantastic! Hope your wife or girl friend loves to prepare italian pasta! I've never seen such an elegant, stilish and high end rolling pin! Don't dare giving anotherwoman such a pearl! Except your mother of course!😊
Creative Summit, thank you from Saudi Arabia salute you
Never thought id think the words "now that is a sexy rolling pin"
Um belo trabalho,Gomis. Parabéns pela sua inteligência
No clue what you're saying.
@@peggymason7438 it's portuguese: A beautiful work, Gomis. Congratulations for your intelligence.
@@arthurwittmann6242 thank you
What an amazing creation!!! Truly a work of art like no other!!
What an awesome workshop and the vast array of tools to make such creations possible....
VERY BEAUTIFUL, Thank you, Olivier, for sharing this video.
Any baker would be thrilled to own such a beautiful piece of equipment!!! Very clever design too❤️
So happy to see a suggestion of mass / multiple production in the background of your video. You are an immensely and naturally talented woodworker and I hope you can make a career out of your art. Just promise me one thing, please don't start putting rubbish in coloured resin and turning it.
He can do whatever he wants!
I agree about the resin. It certainly has its place but seeing it in turning and the mess it produces makes me uneasy. Who would voluntarily work with resin when there is a material as fabulous as wood?
@@vanessas2454 People who can't see thru wood maybe? 🤷♂️
Wow. Thanks for sharing your amazing talent!
Too beautiful to use. Gorgeous project. 👍👍
I didn't need a rolling pin until I saw this one... That is beautiful Excellent work.
It may be my imagination but i think i can hear the differences in wood density while its being turned. Thats pretty cool
Def no imagination
Awesome! You just need electric energy and you can create unbelievable objects! You are truly magical and I think you have to be guy all women want!
Beautiful work. I'll take the rolling pin AND that woodshop with its tools!
Eres un crack Oliver todo lo que haces me sorprendes 👍👍
A crack?
Que?
@@MKZ3003 A genius
@@Sat1Gamer thx
That’s quite possibly the most beautiful rolling pin I’ve ever seen. 🤣🤣🤣
Best rolling pin I’ve ever seen! Well done! 👍🏼
So pretty! It's like the infinity symbol I could look on this for infinity!
Loving that massive 4 wheel steady rest!
Crazy cool - right ???!!!! That’s besides all the other pro shop tools.
👍 круто! Даже станок токарный захотелось приобрести, после увиденного!
Truly beautiful and amazing work!
Beautiful piece of work. Never would have thought about it before. Awesome video. Thanks. The only thing I can think of to add to that. Would be a gradient of measurement along one edge.
I am enraged by how easy you make this look. Absolutely goddamn furious.
I watched at 2x speed so may have missed it -> how did he index the handles to get such a good match? If I eyeballed a pair like that in reverse it would not turn out even.
@@briangregus5225 If it’s anything like his other videos, he likely made a stencil and freehanded the cutting until they matched his pattern, which is bonkers good in its own right. Or he just guessed and is such a great artist he nailed it. Either or.
@@ZeketheZealot a reverse stencil would be the way I'd go if I owned a lathe, just didn't see him use one. Could be edited out for brevity. In the case of the latter being a possibility - I had a buddy in college that would do manuscripts in pen, freehand. Just mind-blowing talent. I feel like a kid with blunt crayons sometimes. Ha!
I would display this beautiful rolling pin in my kitchen. It’s too pretty to use.
What a beauty. Great job sir!
Wow, exceptional designs and craftsmanship.
Thought it’s a rolling pin ... nope it’s a work of art disguised as a rolling pin ... damn nice! ( new sub)
Anyone else curious for a workshop tour? I'd love to see how his dust collection, etc, works. And also, how he finds the wood.
Well, as far as wood goes: you buy it. You don't find wood.
@@1106Winter, you don't have to buy all wood. You can find it everywhere. I have oak and pine growing all over my property.
Beautiful. I'm very impressed.
Vic Firth would be proud! Nice job.
He put bearings in it. Is anyone surprised? This man is very skilled and is very steady. If you watch those passes with the roughing gouge it's like watching automation. He has the hands of a surgeon, in purple gloves.
I think he is French and they take their dough serious
I was wondering if he would, but not surprised to see it! Makes me want to bake things, if I could only find a way to do it in an apartment kitchenette about the size of my closet.
You are a true master craftsman
I hope he used sealed stainless steel bearing races !
...what else would he put in it?
It came out looking like you made ribbons of wood on the rolling pin! Amazing! I wonder if you could make a pink ribbons rolling pin for breast cancer awareness? Thank you for making and sharing this video!
Outstanding!! Thanks for sharing!!
as a handsurgeon i like how you protect your hands when cutting wood.
...to not get hurt with your rolling pin, i immedeately left Insta and rushed to YT to watch your amazing video Sir!
To not get hurt by your rolling pin, KEEP IT FROM YOUR WIFE 🤫
@@paulking962 maybe he made it for her cos he couldn’t get Her a Thermomix for her birthday🙈
tellement stylé ^^ j'oserais pas m'en servir par peur de l'abimer x)
Moi pareil
I collect rolling pins and display them in old wine racks. Sure like to won this lol. Beautiful as always 🇺🇸❤️
Super travail, très belle réalisation ! 👍👍👍👍
This is perfect
I'm no stranger to multiple glue-ups per workpiece, Sadly, Most people, other than woodworkers, don't fully apricate how much time and effort goes into projects like that.
Indeed..
Oh you know anyone can do that! It only took 10 minutes. *sarcasm*
I was thinking "That rolling pin is artwork that will be priced at several hundred dollars. It will be kept in a cabinet that requires a key."
this is not as long as you think. You work on the cuts, you glue the thing, you clamp then you wait a few hours for the glue to cure. Most of the time is spent waiting. Also notice at 0:56 that he does not even need to align the pieces because it's going to be cut anyway.
@@xl000 this guy. Show us ur rolling pin u made ay? U just proved op comment.
Wow absolutely stunning, I wish I could do that. Great work 😊
Ce goût pour le travail bien fait, et très esthétique est vraiment plaisant à voir. Bravo !
