There’s a character named Pardis that uses the Wealth, Power, and Fame ones together later on
Octopath had a really interesting story, really. The final boss was stupidly difficult, but it was nice that it required you to actually use every aspect of the super in-depth combat
I literally found this out a just two weeks ago when i listened to the OST and found Daughter of the Dark God and was like "i dont remember hearing this track". So i looked it up and found that a final boss existed after finishing all 8 stories. It is unbelievebly hard anf you have to be lucky in how the boss attacks in both phases. Its also interesting that Simion, Primroses final boss, has a connection to the ring of Fame in CotC.

I really wished they weren't encased in their own worlds, they kind of mingle with one another, but each character had their own story completely separate for each other despite working with one another and adventuring together.

I love how I have to strategies my characters. I have Cyrus as my Arch Mage/Sorcerer Ophelia Healer/Starseer Primrose Dancer/Healer Therion Theif/Runemaster By having two healers, which I either make Primrose or Tressa, I can tank more hits. And Cyrus is my main guy besides Ophilia that has the most SP to do attacks. Ophelia is my support, and Cyrus can pack quiet the punch as Arch Mage with his special power that targets one guy. Therion is both support and attack, it works great.

The original game does. This game being a newly released mobile game with a slow rollout of content, not really yet. There’s still super bosses, but nothing BS. But I hear in the Japanese game (which has been out for over two years now) there are plenty of BS difficulty bosses requiring precise strats (and sometimes specific Gatcha characters)
it does have more than a couple, and more are getting added as the games goes on
@@tristanbowles7258 The global release is actually at a much accelerated pace for content. We are getting the Tikilen cup very soon, for example. Additionally, while I haven't been able to see them yet, I have heard that once you've beaten a couple BT fights you can attempt some level 100 fights that are basically impossible for now.
Definitely a super interesting theory. The only key point that I think was missed is the ritual to purify the rings; meaning the reason that the rings made Tytos, Herminia, and Auguste go berserk is because the rings are corrupted, or rather become corrupted. The ritual to purify them is successful…but then we see what happened to Pathos and Apathia (the Ring Maidens)… The more interesting thing to perhaps look into is the Tower of Remembrance. If you defeat all of the elite enemies in a particular region, you’ll unlock a boss within that particular “bonfire” inside the tower. If you defeat that extra boss, you unlock some lore about HOW Auguste, Herminia, and Tytos came across the rings… …they were given to them by a shadowed figure. Sound a bit familiar? A “shadowed figure” also gave our character their ring. Maybe they’re the same person. Just my thoughts.

I believe it’s also revealed in the JP version that two of the bosses from the bestower storylines gave Tytos and Herminia their respective rings.

You nailed it on the head. Although Simeon did give Auguste his ring, the shadowy figure who gave you the ring actually gave all eight rings to human's. He's actually Finis the father of the gods and he turned eight of them into rings to resurrect his wife Orsa, the only problem is the eight gods he turned into rings were the ones protecting the world so Finis felt conflicted because he also noticed that Humanity wasn't exactly that great. So he bestowed the rings unto them as a way for them to decide for him whether they deserve protection or he should let them rot and revive Orsa. If you played Octopath Traveler that's why only Winnihild, Balogar, Steorra and Dreisang are physically present in the game. Aelfric and the rest of the gods who represent the 8 basic classes are the rings.
6:11 they did lead the town and survive. you said it yourself, a year passed between master of wealth and bestower of wealth. they weren't exactly defenseless without our help, either. in the battle that ensues at the start of the bestower of wealth prologue, there are eleven enemies shown in the cutscene, and all but one of them are dead in the next. you only take out three in the battle. i'm sure they handled themselves pretty well over that year.

I need to suggest a game that has some of the darkest lore I know and I really feel like a theory can be made out of it. The game is called is called Into The Radius. It's a VR game and it's got some really cool features and hidden lore that is found while exploring throughout the game.

I didn't really play that game since it's a mobile game, but I did play the first Octopath Traveler game which is the sequel of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. As far as I know, the first Octopath Traveler game has Ophelia the Cleric, Cyrus the Scholar, Tressa the Merchant, Olberic the Knight, Primrose the Dancer, Alfyn the Apothecary, Therion the Thief, and H'aanit the Hunter. In Octopath Traveler 2, you get Ochette the Hunter, Castti the Apothecary, Throne the Thief, Osvald the Scholar, Partitio the Merchant, Temenos the Cleric, and Hikari the Warrior. In Octopath 2, they replaced the Knight job with the Warrior job but they both function the same way.

Yep, one of my favorite moments ever is in the original Bravely Default when the big bad is explaining his plan. Internally, I'm going "Blah blah blah, conquer the world/Celestial Realm, whatever." Then the screen breaks and I see myself, suddenly I realize who his target in the Celestial Realm is and flip out from both the reveal and how high the stakes become.

I've been wondering... if all of the ringbearers can transform into a monster with the power of their respective rings... does the main traveller character also has that ability?... as MatPat said, how are we different? The only thing we notice is that all rings except ours glows red instead of blue...
Spoilers but they have to activate their ring in order to do so. It's something they have to chose to do. Matpat left that part out. Main character chooses not to do it, hence we ARE different. It's not our abilities, it's our choices. Really feels like he didn't actually read the story imo.

I've just thought about the idea of Game Theory doing a video on Hunt: Showdown. Maybe looking into the Corruption and the Sculptor and seeing if any of the legendary hunters are being used by the Sculptor like the Night Seer and his cult or the Sinners cult, or even something to do with the AHA or any of the boss monsters, the gunplay, some of the consumables like hive bomb or concertina bombs, etc. They could even look into the event Serpent's Moon that's going on right now. I'd just really love a video on Hunt: Showdown from one of my favorite channels. I feel like there's possibly something they could find there in that game that would get their theorist minds going.

I actually think the "Ring is the true bbeg" is the intended lore. It mirrors the original Octopath Traveler in your actions throughout the game actually makes it possible to summon and fight the secret super-boss.

Game theory idea: The kids in grounded get mutations from the SPAC.R, and more specifically raw science. You have probably heard of the game grounded, where you are a bunch of teens shrunk down in a guys backyard from his new crazy machine called the SPAC.R. The game is going to have its full release on september 27th this year, and its just dying to have a theory done on it. Especially since when the game releases it will either prove or disprove the theory most likely. But in the game there is a weird feature called mutations. Basically the more you do something in grounded, the more you get a mutation of that thing. This can go from being able to run quicker, to having your own cells worked out on a molecular level to have more health. But obviously a normal person can't just experience this sort of mutation, the only way an animal can become a *mutant* that quickly is through radiation. But the scientific idea of mutation is also that when it does change quickly through radiation the change is insignificant or damaging. So there has to be something different going on. And the key is raw science. Through the logs and stuff scattered across the yard it is pretty clear the SPAC.R works off of raw science. A strange substance or material that is scattered across the yard. If this is what Tully is using to power the SPAC.R it could have some unintended, or very intended side effects on living beings. Other than just a strange feeling I have of the connection between raw science and editing genetics, we also see it happen in the game, more specifically the haze lab. The story goes that Tully used raw science to change the genetics of mushrooms. This resulted in many mutations, some of which were very helpful for the mushroom. In its final stage the mushroom spread like wildfire and is able to take over the brains of any creature it comes into contact with. I really hope matpat sees this comment because all of the grounded community really wants a theory on this game.

5:40 since octopath is my recent obsession. No. One was nothing but a playwright who got what he wanted in the end and no one suspected him of decades long murders in the first place. And the other was faught by a band of vigilantes, NOT MAFIA, that brought stability afterwards by not having a central town leader. The story isnt done yet but he's giving the villains wayyy too much credit.
I think I know what could be the fourth slot/channel: Music Theory since it's the only other thing I can think of that naturally has the word "theory" in it. Plus, it's not like MatPat hasn't analyzed songs before.

How so?
A detail that needs to be pointed out. The rings the three big bads owned were given to them by the bigger bad, Galdera's daughter Lyblac. The game makes it clear she gave the rings to them for the express purpose of corrupting them. The theory teased at the end wouldn't be so bad if not for the fact Lyblac is undeniably evil, something Werner, the destroyer of Hornburg, the town where the Gate of Finis, behind which Galdera was sealed, makes it clear in his diary. Quote: "She was beautiful-there can be no doubt of that. But did I desire her, even for a moment? No. For within that attractive trapping was evil-pure evil, intent on bringing humanity to ruin. If a man dared touch any part of it, his own flesh would rot and fall away. She was a lethal poison. She was a witch. And so I cut myself off from her entirely and did not look back." End quote. So there you have it: if a villain claims that the big bad is the big bad, then the big bad is the big bad. And yes, I am aware that the diary said that Lyblac had Olberic, one of the eight protagonists of the forest game and the last Knight of Hornburg to bring him down, but that doesn't make sense because for eight years Olberic thought Werner's scapegoat Erhardt was the destroyer of Hornburg, which, again, was part of Lyblac's plan. What's more likely is that Aelfric was the one who had Olberic strike down Werner by having him meet the other seven main protagonists of the first game, including, won't you know it, a member of the Order of the Sacred Flame. This hints to me that, while Hornburg's fall was masterminded by Lyblac, Werner's fall was masterminded by Aelfric. And if that's not enough proof, keep in mind how Lyblac also tried to corrupt Kit and Lianna, the former a descendant of a champion of Aelfric's, the latter another member of the Order of the Sacred Flame, and succeeded with Mattias, the big bad of Ophilia's story, Ophilia being the Order of the Sacred Flame member Olberic met. And Mattias himself was implied to be yet another member of the Order once, until a cataclysm happened, cataclysm for which Mattias blamed Aelfric. It's exactly the "The Hero Is The Villain" theory that Lyblac used to corrupt Mattias, Lianna and Kit, and Werner knew it. What Aelfric strikes me more as from this theory is a Knight Templar. He knows there's a darkness in this world, and he's willing to do anything to ensure said darkness won't end up releasing Galdera. That's why he established the Order of the Sacred Flame and gave it complete control over the society. That's why he had the order give his ring to the chosen one. That's why he chose Ophilia as the Flamebearer instead of Lianna. He knew Lianna was emotionally unstable due to her father dying and that Ophilia would go to the length of trying to do the kindling, a journey a member of the Order does once every 20 years, in Lianna's place. He knew Mattias, who betrayed Aelfric, was the reason Lianna's father was dying. What he didn't know was that Mattias killed Lianna's father specifically to make Lianna emotionally unstable so Lyblac could corrupt her. Now, Lyblac failed to corrupt Lianna, since Ophilia made Lianna snap out of it and killed Mattias, but if Aelfric didn't set up Ophilia as the Flamebearer, Lianna likely wouldn't have snapped out of it and turned out like Mattias. So there you have it; the reason why you should always take the "The Hero Is The Villain" theory with a grain of salt. Chances are, whoever came up with that theory is an antichrist up to unleash a God of evil on the world. But hey! That's just a theory! A Game Theory! Thanks for reading!
To put some thing out there. The rings are meant to give god-like qualities, but it’s also mentioned later in the game that the evil in the rings was from the 3 masters who wore them, effectively tainting them. Hence why when they are purified we get the boss battle. Even so there have been many subtle hints about galdera playing a large role in the villains. When revealing their true form they take similar appearances to those that have been corrupted by galdera such as red eye and such. As such it’s more like galdera is corrupting the individuals and then the individuals are tainting the rings.

You should do a Jolly 3 Theory if you haven’t so far, the lore in that game is actually something worth investigating. If you see my comment the game is basically about a man surviving 6 hours and he has a very weird boss. One scene in it is very disturbing and I want to see what you think about it , the scene is basically about bringing your daughter out o work day. Which our player character did, but before he got her out the car he looked in the building comes out and says “Don’t get in” to his daughter which had me really stuck. He was really shaky and scared. Please consider making a video about this!

I mean the game literally states that the rings give you power but what you do with that power is up to you. They don't inherently corrupt. So the basis of your theory doesn't really work.

Oh this would be an amazing post game content imagine fighting back against the control of the Ring. Doing all of this just have the world turn on you. With it probably being one of the hardest challenges. Finishing it off with you fighting the master of your ring.
