  • Oh to be young again. Sydney lady here that loved Japan. In the early 90’s I spent 2 years living just outside of Tokyo and you reminded me of those days wearing your bucket style hat. I had 3 very similar ones to yours in different colours and I wore one when days were cool. Most women wore one when they went out. Anyway, I always enjoy watching you showing everyone around, including this one. xx

  • Just love the amazing life you’ve carved out, in Japan. Not only are your Japanese language skills MORE than adequate (more like, WAY past what is expected), but your love/appreciation of Japanese culture must be highly endearing to the locals. In regard to hey fever/allergies, how is the selection/effectiveness of Japanese-approved antihistamines? I felt the wrath of the sugi the last time I was there, and my most-likely contraband U.S. antihistamine worked pretty well.

For years and years I thought that I might have a gluten intolerance, but it turned out that I am allergic to _baker's yeast,_ which of course is used in most things that have gluten in them! "Correlation is not causation," as they say.

  • In addition to a really good blender they probably pass the soup through a fine sieve to sift out the "larger" particles. That's one technique restaurants use to get that velvety smooth soup.

  • I loved falafel brothers when I was in Japan. Because I'm a vegan and who doesn't like falafel and hummus even if they aren't vegan. I also tried their pizza it was a little too soggy for me because of all the tomato and mushrooms that were on it but I hope they have different ones like focaccia for the next time I'm there! (Plus the pizza was very expensive 😅). The falafel was amazing though! I took a takeaway salad bowl type thing once and it was very fresh (also had falafel). And for the pita ones I think you can choose like 3 toppings? They also had 3 bottles of different sauces (some were based on level of spiciness). I also liked their lotus root chips! The branch where I ate the pizza was the one with the big fake tree in the middle of the restaurant (don't know if they still have that) but they also had wine at that one. And at both the branches I went to the staff was really great! I completely recommend falafel brothers! P.S. if you ever come to South Africa you should try Falafel King! (some supermarkets here sell their frozen falafel and it tastes really fresh and yummy! I especially like the original one which isn't spicy but there is also a roasted red pepper flavored one and another really spicy one).
